Several campgrounds in the Holland, Ohio area accommodate tent, RV, and cabin camping with varying amenities and settings. Maumee Bay State Park Campground, located approximately 15 miles northeast of Holland, provides full-service sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, while White Oak Campground offers more primitive tent and RV sites within the Oak Openings Metropark system. Private operations like Twin Acres Campground and several KOA locations provide additional developed camping options within a 20-mile radius, many featuring both tent sites and rental cabins.

Reservations are strongly recommended for most campgrounds in the region, particularly during the peak season from May through October. The majority of developed sites near Holland operate seasonally, with only a few like Maumee Bay and White Oak remaining open year-round. Road access is generally good throughout the area with paved entrances to most established campgrounds, though primitive sites may require short walks from parking areas. Temperatures can fluctuate significantly, with humid summers and cold winters typical of northwestern Ohio. "The firewood is free, which is amazing. There is also a dish washing station near the restrooms, with a huge sink and hot water," noted one visitor about White Oak Campground.

Campers consistently praise the peaceful atmosphere found at smaller sites like White Oak Campground, which features only five individual sites and two group sites within the Oak Openings Preserve. Numerous reviews mention the cleanliness of facilities and the benefit of free firewood at certain locations. While road noise can be noticeable at some campgrounds due to proximity to highways, many sites offer enough vegetation and space between campsites to provide adequate privacy. Several visitors highlighted the benefits of camping near Oak Openings Metropark's extensive trail system, which provides opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing directly from campgrounds. Security considerations were mentioned in some reviews, with occasional reports of vehicle break-ins at more remote locations.

      Harrison Lake State Park Campground

Clean sites and facilities, friendly staff

We only stayed one night, but it was quiet enough. Beautiful autumn foliage and easy pull-in sites for both electric and sewer hookup.

It’s IMPORTANT to note that when approaching the park, watch very carefully for signs for the North campsite. You can miss them easily. You must pass the south campsite, which is the primitive sites/non-electric and adjacent to the lake on your right.

Go up the road a ways and turn right and follow signs to the north campsite entrance where the electric sites are located. It’s not very well marked and can be confusing.

      Maumee Bay State Park Campground

We camped in September 2026, site 51. Our pad was pretty level and long for us with a short camper. The fire ring was permanently in the ground, which is nice so that people don’t move it around. It was a short walk to the shower house, which was really nice and clean good showers. And we happen to be there during one of their fall fest weekends and they had all kinds of activities for kids to do which was really nice. They have a little trails that go in between some of the campgrounds and around one of the little ponds. Check-in was super easy and there is a dump station as well. What’s nice about a lot of these sites is that there is some kind of trees or big bushes that separates you from your neighbor.

      Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

Sites are modest but it's. A nicely maintained area. Sites are nice and flat and the people in the office are very nice.

      Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

      Great stop over

This isn’t a remote getaway, it’s a great spot that’s close to everything you need. Some reviews commented on the highway noise, I had no issues. Staff was friendly and helpful, facilities were clean. There’s an illuminated walk path that connects to the Walmart which is super convenient.

      Home State Kudos

I came, desperate and exhausted...I saw, an opportunity for an extended stay...I conquered, my inexperience was met with warmth and accommodating camp attendants and camp neighbors. And God was with me the entire journey from Virginia to this Blessed Ground in Michigan. Seems forever had I longed for so much Peace and Quiet. Forever grateful am I. 😇🥰

      Maumee Bay State Park Campground

      Great State Park Campground

I spent one night passing through the area after visiting Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The hedges separating the campsites provides some privacy and it was a quiet location.

The park’s beach on Lake Erie is nearby. While hidden by the landscaping, the bathhouse was conveniently located and the path well lit without detracting from the camping experience at the campsite.

      Deshler Crossroads Park

      Camping right near the Tracks

Deshler, OH offers a campground in Crossroads Park, famous for 4 sets of train tracks and the ability to see trains from all over. This campground is best suited for train enthusiasts, because you are with 10-20 feet of the tracks. There is a grassy field for tent8ng and parking spots near the pavilion for RV's. It is not big right friendly. Max trailer size should be about 20'. There is a porta potty on-site as well as electrical outlets and a covered pavilion with picnic tables. Gas and convenience stores nearby. Suggested donation is $20/night.

      Twin Acres Campground

Great place for our quick overnight

We were greeted by a very friendly staff and had very little trouble finding our spot. Park has several mobile homes and long-term campers, but that did not detract from our experience. Our pull through was nice and level. Would stop in again if we're ever back this way.
