These pet-friendly campgrounds near Holland maintain clean facilities with amenities like fire rings, picnic tables, and full hookups for RV campers. Oak Openings Preserve Metropark features White Oak Campground with hiking access to the 15.5-mile Scout Trail loop that runs directly through the campground. Dogs must remain leashed on trails and in camping areas. The metropark offers everything from pine forests to sand dunes, with multiple trailheads accessible from Mallard Lake area. Most sites are nicely shaded and spaced apart from neighboring campers. Wiregrass Lake Metropark provides only three camping spots but includes free firewood and lakeside primitive camping with fishing opportunities. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound at these natural areas, though campers should be prepared with insect repellent as standing water throughout these areas can lead to high mosquito activity during warmer months. "Parking is general, but close to each site. We were there on a Monday night, only had one other tent in the campground. Nice flat sand pads for tents to set up on!"
"The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).
Our site was shaded with lots of trees.""We stayed in a pull thru site which we felt was a really nice size and was wishing the weather was better so we could enjoy some outside time. The bathhouse was nice, clean, and updated."
$20 - $65 / night
"I would guess 22 feet wide and I only had 5 feet behind my 30 foot camper until you reach the next camper."
"We live close to this campground so it was a fun weekend getaway. The kids loved playing on the water slide and swimming in the pond."
"All sites are right next to each other, but it is a pretty quiet place after 9 PM. I did not hear any road noise, which was nice. There are showers and flush toilets too!"
"It was really close to Oak Openings Metropark, which has tons of trails."

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Delivered our firewood right to our site. Lots of shade trees, beautiful well groomed trails for walking. Even a dog park, which our Golden Retriever really enjoyed.
This campground has everything you could want. Kids areas, swimming pond and pool, dog park area and pleasant employees. Will definitly be going back soon!
We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.
The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.
Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.
Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.
The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.
This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.
If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.
They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.
We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.
We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.
The camping area is nice. It is a little open for our like but there good activities you can do with the kids or pets.
Sites and restrooms were alright, think it is ridiculous to pay extra each night for each pet and children, too many other campgrounds in our area that are more updated and reasonably priced.

Mountain biking at Oak Openings Preserve: The park offers extensive trail systems for riders of all skill levels. At Cannaley Treehouse Village, you can access trails directly from your accommodation. "This little village was so much fun for my 2 little people! I think 1 night is plenty as the site itself doesn't offer a ton of amenities but there are some trails that you can walk/bike without leaving base," notes Leah R.
Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds provide lake or pond access for fishing. At Wiregrass Lake Metropark, you'll find three primitive lakeside campsites. "The lake offers great fishing opportunities and doubles as a nice spot to sit by the water, enjoy the local wildlife and relax," reports Joe C. Each site includes "a raised gravel pad for your tent, a picnic table, fire ring, and a trash and free wood box that is fully stocked."
Exploring Grand Rapids: Just 30 minutes from Holland, this historic canal town offers shops and restaurants. "There are lots of bike trails as the towpath trail goes through the park and it even leads into the little town of Grand Rapids. A quaint town with lots of antiques store and boutique with a brewery and pizza shop," writes Andrea F. about her stay at Mary Jane Thurston State Park.
Privacy between sites: Campers appreciate spaces that don't feel overcrowded. At White Oak Campground, "The sites are very nicely spaced and shaded, and not right on the parking lot," according to Cassandra C. The site layout provides a more natural camping experience with "nice flat sand pads for tents to set up on!"
Free firewood: This uncommon amenity is highly valued by visitors. Kevin K. notes, "Well kept campground, bathrooms were very clean, and nice to have the firewood included" at White Oak Campground. Similarly, Joe C. mentions that at Wiregrass Lake Metropark, each site includes "a trash and free wood box that is fully stocked."

Seasonal mosquito activity: Standing water throughout the Oak Openings region creates significant mosquito populations. Jacob N. warns about Wiregrass Lake: "super mosquito like so bring the deep woods Bug juice as standing water seemed pretty much the landscape at any point that dipped 3 feet or more."
Limited availability at smaller sites: Some of the most scenic camping areas have very few spots. "Wiregrass lake was a very nice camping atmosphere. There are only 3 camping spots around the lake so you're not packed in like sardines," explains Joe C. Similarly, White Oak Campground has "only 5 individual sites, has two group sites."

Halloween camping: Multiple campgrounds offer special Halloween-themed weekends. Most sites decorate and some site go all out with haunted houses."
Hookup positioning: Check the location of connections before setting up. At Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA, Jackie M. notes, "Nice campground, gravel semi level spot. Full hookup but sewer connection was at very back of spot. We used dump station."
Dump station location: Some parks separate facilities from camping areas. Bob M. mentions at Mary Jane Thurston State Park: "The only real negative is the bathrooms & shower house are a mile or so away at the marina, kind of odd." Andrea F. adds, "your potable water and dump station were located at the Marina about a 1/4 mile down the road. Not a huge deal but a little inconvenient."
Dog friendly campgrounds near Holland: Most campgrounds in the area welcome pets but have specific requirements. At Twin Acres Campground, pets are allowed throughout the grounds.
