## Overview

The Holland Lake Campground and Group Site are located on the shores of Holland Lake in the Swan Valley of northwest Montana. Holland Lake Campground is a great place to enjoy the Flathead National Forest. It offers clean campsites with great lake access and ample opportunities for hiking on the scenic Holland Falls National Recreation Trail. Holland Lake Campground has 38 rentable sites, 24 of which are reservable and 14 for walk-up visitors. The stay limit is 16 consecutive days.

## Recreation

The trailhead for the popular and easy Holland Falls National Recreation Trail is near the campground. The 1.6-mile trail climbs 750 feet, following the shoreline of Holland Lake to the base of Holland Falls waterfall. Holland Lake provides visitors with plenty of access to water-related recreation. Boating is popular on the lake, as well as water skiing and fishing. Anglers can look forward to catching a variety of trout and Kokanee salmon. Paddleboards, Kayaks and Canoes are available for rent for $10/hr., $25/4 hrs. or $40/8hrs.

## Facilities

The campground offers 38 individual sites, a day use area and a group site, available for tent and RV camping. Some sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site is equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills. Parking areas are covered in gravel, dirt or grass. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. A boat ramp to the lake, as well as boat trailer parking, is also available. There are no electricity or sewer hookups at the campground, however, there is a dump/fill station within 1/4 mile of the campground. The campground also has day use picnic areas equipped with tables and grills. They are near the lake and provide access to the lake's gravel beaches.

## Natural Features

At an elevation of 4,050 feet, the campground sits among Tamarack, Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir trees. There are some sites close to the 416-acre lake; others are further back or higher on the bank. A variety of wildlife, including grizzly and black bear, make their home in the area.

The campground is 25 miles north of the charming town of Seeley Lake.

Holland Lake Campground

## Overview

McGregor Lake Campground is located approximately 53 miles southeast of Libby, Montana, on Highway 2 at the west end of McGregor Lake in the Kootenai National Forest. This area is about halfway between Libby and Kalispell in the heart of the Thompson Chain of Lakes, a premier fishing and hunting area.

## Recreation

McGregor Lake is host to a prime mackinaw trout population and offers excellent opportunities for a trophy-size catch. There is a boat ramp on-site for access to the lake. Swimming and water skiing are also popular activities. Hikers can walk the 2.9-mile McGregor Lake Shoreline Trail.

## Facilities

The campground has 27 sites, including one host site, all with tables and fire rings. Most sites offer an average length of 32 feet. Vault toilets, garbage service and drinking water are available during the peak season. The campground campsites are not currently on the reservation system. The reservable group site is available for large groups, this site is a 120' x 140' gravel parking area. Tables and fire ring are located within the site. Reservations can be made at Recreation.gov Day use picnic sites with tables and fire rings are located near the beach.

## Natural Features

At an elevation of 3,900 feet, the campground is nestled among young pines at the west end of McGregor Lake in the Fisher River Area. The lake spans 1,240 acres, making it the largest lake in the Kootenai National Forest. The Fisher River Area is the watershed formed by the four forks (West, East, Silver Butte, Pleasant Valley) of the Fisher River and Wolf Creek. Within it is the Thompson Chain of Lakes, which consists of more than 20 lakes.

Mcgregor Lake Campground

## Overview

Big Creek Campground lies in the expansive Flathead National Forest in northwestern Montana, 2 miles south of the Northwest entrance to Glacier National Park. Visitors can enjoy access to the Flathead River as well as the countless other recreational opportunities provided by the surrounding forests.

Big Creek Campground has 22 campsites, 12 of which are reservable and 10 are walk-up, first come, first serve sites. 

The stay limit is 16 consecutive nights.

## Recreation

Visitors enjoy the ample fishing and floating opportunities provided by the river. Trout are a popular catch amid the calm flow of the water. Boating is also an excellent pastime, as the river is perfect for floating, rafting and canoeing.   
  
Across from the campground is the Glacier Institute's Big Creek Outdoor Education Center, which provides learning opportunities for visitors of all ages. Programs offered include seminars and guided hikes, which point out the diverse natural and cultural resources of the Glacier National Park and the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem.

## Facilities

The campground offers several accessible individual campsites for tent and RV camping. Each has convenient access to the river and is equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills.   
  
A group camping area is nestled in the middle of the campground and can accommodate up to 200 guests. Campfire circles and group picnic areas are also available.

Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided. The water is in 2 locations and are hand pumps. They are not for filling your RV so please come with your water full.

## Natural Features

In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, west of the continental divide and just south of the Canadian border, lies the 2.4 million acre Flathead National Forest.   
  
Home to lynx, grizzly bear, and bull trout and with numerous lakes, streams, and rivers to enjoy, the forest is a premiere destination for visitors.   
  
The campground sits along the North Fork of the Flathead River, which begins in Canada and joins a couple other forks before depositing into Flathead Lake. It is a forested area of mature pine and fir trees that provide a sparse understory at an elevation of 3,300 feet.

Big Creek Campground is just 2 miles from the Camas Creek entrance to the Glacier National Park. Columbia Falls, along the North Fork of the Flathead River, is located 19 miles south of the campground.

## Overview

Wapiti Cabin is a primitive, rustic, log structure open year-round for recreational enjoyment. It provides access to several trails for summer hiking and biking, and winter skiing and snowmobiling. The cabin can be accessed by vehicle in warmer weather, but snow conditions may require a six mile trek on skis, snowshoes, or by snowmobile.   
  
Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and they must bring several of their own amenities.

## Recreation

The junction of Taylor Fork Road and Wapiti Creek offers several trailheads leading into the Cabin Creek Wildlife Management Area.   
Mountain bikers will find several route options in the Wapiti Loops in Taylor Fork, including a 14-mile route that begins at the cabin.   
  
For winter sports enthusiasts, the Big Sky Snowmobile Trail is within 2 miles of the cabin, and it offers some of Montana's best backcountry snowmobiling. The area around Wapiti Creek also offers good terrain for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.   
The cabin is open to stock, and there is a corral available for horses. A hitching rail surrounds the cabin for stock use.   
  
Please keep in mind that fall hunting season brings big game hunters to this area.

## Facilities

This is a primitive cabin. It can sleep up to four people, with a maximum group size of six people for overnight use. There is a seven night maximum stay per group. A wood stove is available for heat, and an old-fashioned wood cook stove is also available. Basic ammeneties such as an axe, shovel, bucket and table with chairs are also provided. Four cots are available.  
  
An outhouse is located outside and adjacent to the cabin. Firewood is supplied for **indoor use only**. Renters must gather their own wood for outdoor campfires. A corral is available for stock. Limited cookware, dishware, and utensils are provided. It is recommended that campers bring their own for use.  
  
No electricity or water is available. Guests must bring their own drinking water, flashlights and lanterns, bedding, matches, extra toilet paper, garbage bags, dish soap, and other necessities. The cabin will need to be cleaned and all trash removed prior to departure.

## Natural Features

Wapiti Cabin is situated inbetween the Madison Mountain Range and the Gallatin Mountain Range at an elevation of 7,000 feet. Beyond the meadow, guests at the cabin can see dense stands of evergreens and rugged mountain ridges. Wapiti Creek flows nearby.   
  
The area around Wapiti Cabin is grizzly bear habitat, but it's also home to deer, elk, moose, and other wildlife.

Wapitit Cabin is within the vacinity of West Yellowstone, MT, home of the West Gate to Yellowstone National Park. 

It is also close to Hebgen and Earthquake lakes as well as the Earthquake Lake Visitor Center.

Wapiti Cabin

## Overview

Chisholm Campground is located next to scenic Hyalite Reservoir in the Bozeman Ranger District of the Gallatin National Forest, 18 miles south of Bozeman, Montana.   
  
The surrounding area offers many outdoor recreational opportunities, including boating, canoeing, fishing, hiking and climbing.

Hyalite Reservoir offers many recreational activities, including boating, canoeing and fishing opportunities. Anglers fish for Yellowstone cutthroat, Arctic grayling and brook trout. Hyalite Creek and the East Fork offer fishing as well.   
  
Many hiking trails are found in Hyalite Canyon, including the popular Hyalite Peak Trail. This 7.5-mile one-way trail gains 3,450 feet in elevation as it climbs past numerous waterfalls, to beautiful Hyalite Lake and Peak.

The campground is situated in a forest of pine and fir trees, next to Hyalite Reservoir, at an elevation of 6,700 feet. The East Fork Hyalite Creek runs alongside the north side of the campground.

Chisholm Campground

## Overview

Kading Cabin is located 16 miles south of Elliston, Montana in Helena National Forest. This site has served the Forest Service since the early 1900s when the agency was forming. It was selected for its central location, trail and wagon road accessibility, and telephone line service at the time, ensuring that it would be valuable for both administrative and protective work.  
  
The present cabin was built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Renovations and repairs were made to the facility in the 1960s and again in the early 1990s. Today, the cabin is a rustic retreat for guests seeking relaxation and recreation in central Montana.  
  
The cabin is typically accessible by car; however, heavy amounts of snow in winter can close the road to vehicles. Access to the cabin is via a 7-mile stretch of road passable by snowmobile, snowshoe, skis or dog sled. Guests must be prepared to pack in several of their own supplies.

## Recreation

Plenty of hiking, fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities exist along the numerous trails and roads that can be accessed within a short distance from the cabin.  
  
Fly fishing on the Little Blackfoot River is excellent. Brown trout are found in good numbers and large sizes below Elliston. Brook and cutthroat trout are found above Elliston. Whitefish can be found throughout the length of the river.  
  
In winter, guests will enjoy snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling on trails throughout the area.

## Facilities

The cabin is furnished with 2 sets of bunk beds with mattresses that can accommodate up to 4 people. A wood stove is provided for heat. Other amenities include propane lanterns, a table and chairs, cleaning supplies, a propane cooking stove, dishes, utensils and some cookware.  
  
An outhouse with vault toilet is nearby. An axe and snow shovel are provided. Firewood may be available, but it is not guaranteed. A water spigot is located outside the cabin and operates most of the winter.  
  
The cabin is not wired for electricity, and water is not always available in winter. Fuel is not provided for the propane stove or lanterns, so guests should bring a couple of small propane cylinders, as well as backup lighting.  
  
Items to bring include sleeping bags, linens, towels, dish soap, matches, first aid kit, toilet paper and garbage bags. Guests are expected to pack out all trash and food and clean the cabin before leaving.  
  
No firewood provided from June 1st - August 31

## Natural Features

Hemmed in by old-growth, conifer forest, Kading Cabin sits at the edge of a grassy clearing. The Little Blackfoot River flows near the cabin, a tributary to the Upper Clark Fork watershed. It drains an area of 265,300 acres from the Boulder Mountains north of Butte and west of Helena.  
  
The area around the cabin offers a variety of landscapes, from river banks to subalpine terrain. Valley bottoms, dense forests, meadows and barren ridges are mixed with streams, rivers, and lakes.  
  
Wildlife in the area abounds. Elk, deer, squirrels and a variety of birds are commonly seen. The more elusive badger, wolverine, mountain lion and lynx find habitat in nearby areas as well.

Plenty of historic mines are scattered throughout the area, including Charter Oak Mine and the Mill and the Monarch Mine.
