Fabulous campground

Beautiful state park

Perry State Park is well maintained and manicured park. The primitive sites and RV sites are extremely close (especially the RV sites) other than that they have dedicated hammock sites!

Trail sites are awesome, all sites free!

Best campsite we’ve been to since moving to KS 7 years ago—wooded, private, spacious, feels very secluded (the sites along the trail, not up top). It was our first time hiking in to a site (lots of work with our regular gear for a family of four, but worth it!). We went mid-June, and there had apparently been some type of butterfly hatching. They were small-ish and quite aggressive (who knew!?), constantly swarming us. At one point there were seven perched on my husband’s back, and one landed in a pancake cooking on the grill (no surviving that). We still had fun, but we’ll go earlier or later next time. We also love hiking the trail through the woods and by the lake even when we aren’t camping—best trail I’ve been on in Lawrence.

Awesome (free!) sites & trail

Favorite camp ground

This is my little families favorite camp ground. We very rarely run into anyone else while camping on the trail. We have myself, husband, son, and dog. Every now and then there will be a rowdy group of guys out there to party but for the most part it’s pretty quiet. Only downside is I wish people would clean up better after themselves.

Primitive and secluded

Gorgeous little campground with a few primitive sites suitable for tents. Plenty of shade, bathrooms available, and access to a gorgeous trail. Picnic tables and fire rings available for use. Felt very secluded and quiet, and only had to drive on a dirt road for about 2 minutes!

Very Clean and Very Relaxing

The Park: We love this park, it’s massive, and really pretty. They have so much to do (listed below). Sunflower Loop is our favorite and has full hookups. There are more primitive loops as well. It is ADA accessible. There was not a tornado shelter as of 2018. This is one thing that should be mandatory given its proximity and being further away from potential shelter. Excellent camping on the lake. Lots of water activities available.

Sites: level, clear, easily accessible. Sunflower loop is widely spaced and plenty of room for larger RVs.

Cellular: decent cellular signal.

Great Primitive Camp Area

Awesome spot for weekend camping. Lots of fire rings available. Well maintained in the main camping area, as well as on the trail.

Hillsdale Stare Park

Hillsdale is a nice place to camp that isn’t too far out of the city. Decent accommodations and nice camp sites near the water front.
