Easy peasy

This is a great stop if you’re traveling and just need a spot to park and camp for a night! Lots of bugs though! But it’s quiet, nobody else here, and a free simple place to sleep while we are passing through. Our pop up camper was super easy to pull in and the ground is flat :)

Free BUT the mosquitos!

It is quiet and it is free and near a real nice town. Level but with gravel. Not smooth or grassy enough for ground sleeping without an air mattress. The road to get there has been graveled well so isn’t muddy anymore. Lots of trees to break the wind BUT then it doesn’t blow away the mosquitos. We didn’t have a tent and were going to sleep in tarp sandwiches BUT the mosquito army drove us on.

Explosion of wildlife

I stayed there 2 nights. The first night it rained like the dickens for about an hour after the rain is when the show really started. The marshlands exploded with sound. Frogs, crickets, owls, foxes, coyotes, and more wildlife sounds than I could identify. I can identify a lot. Like 5! The first night was so awesome I stayed a second night. The second night wasn't as dramatic, but it was still a wonderful calypso of sound to fall asleep too. The campground is very well kept and even though next to the road it was peaceful. I will be back next spring!

Empty & Quiet, road was a little muddy

Empty and quiet. Two clean toilets, muddy road to get there. About 20 minutes from the highway. About 5 good spots to pull off.

Great stop, by a lake = attack of bugs

I’ve been traveling across the country for three days and this was an amazing stop. Only one other person. Watch out for mosquitos. It’s by a lake so this time of year it’s nasty! They have a septic toilet. So perfect if you need to take a bathroom break on a real toilet.

I recommend this place if you want to check out the lake near by, otherwise try to call NOT next to a lake (unless it’s cold outside - under 60)

great place overall

my one grip with these sites is that they have direct visual exposure to a road, albeit not a busy one. decent gravel road leading to the site, no issue with it in my front wheel drive sedan. nice port-a-potty building. a few decent trees that i attached one end of my hammock to, and the other end to my car. the stone picnic tables get hot in the sun.

But it’s free. OK for one night

Muddy site on a dirt road. Other campers were single male duck hunters in tents or small trailers. Wouldn’t try it in a heavy vehicle in wet weather, due to soft ground. Portapotty.

Siteunmarked sites.

Small spot for hunters

I drove almost 2 hours to get here to park for the night. I’m a solo female traveler and I didn’t feel safe. This free campground is near Great Bend town (on a dirt road in the middle of nowhere) (look it at in google) on a public land. There was a lot of RVs and tents. All men on hunting gear. I’m guessing it’s hunting season. One porta potty and a few picnic tables. Not the place for a solo female traveler
