Minooka - Wilson Reservoir

If you are traveling I 70, this is a great spot for a night to break up the drive. Only a few miles off of the highway, clean, quiet, with water and electricity. We stop here almost every trip. Sites are spaced out nicely.

Love this place. Discovered it by accident trying to avoid the loud motels off I70. Love that tent sites are free during the week. It was quiet but I wasn't alone. Sunset was amazing on the reservoir. But the wind comes up quite strong as it cools down so stake that tent down!

This place is GREAT!

First off - Monday - Thursday this place is free if you are in a non electric standard site.

Second, the sites are really beautiful and big with great views. We were right on thr lake and it was stunning for sunrise.

Third, the facilities are fantastic. Clean vault toilets and clean shower facilities with perfect water temp and pressure.

Fourth, the host was really nice and helpful!

You can’t really go wrong here. Would love to come back and spend a few days just relaxing. Plenty of bugs (not as bad as I was expecting though) so plan to bring spray.

Found this campground via the Dyrt and boy was it beautiful! We had a tent spot on the D loop next to the water. Not much shade available but temps definitely cooled down at night!

There was a swimming beach just a few steps away from our tent spot which was why we chose it. There was a ranger on duty but booking was done online when we arrived.

My ONLY complaint is that the bath houses had no water temperature control in the showers. It was scalding hot water only in every shower on a 100 degree day.

The wife and I were just passing through and found this place from the Dyrt; we had no idea what we were getting in to. The GPS took us off 70, and after about 5 minutes of driving, the earth opened up, revealing a beautiful green hilly valley, with a gorgeous blue body of water. It was immaculate.

The campground itself is very nice as well, with easy to navigate signs, level lots, and plenty of space in between. It was a bit noisy by the playground, but hey, what do you expect. Kids will be kids.

Than bathrooms were not super clean, but other than that, this place seemed pretty amazing. We hope to return when we have more time!

Great spot. Stumbled upon this one on our road trip and would come back for sure. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

This campsite is along the Wilson Lake. The scenic is awesome. Most campsite is around $19-24 and there’re a few FREE campsite. There’s water, fire ring, picnic table and toilet. We went there early June and it’s super windy. Our tent shake crazy after dark because of the wind. So far it’s a really nice campsite. The people there are quiet and respectful too.

This is a terrific campgrounds. During a two week road trip, stopped here for a night. Highly impressed; the $14 a night rate (tent site), well maintained sites, easy access to bathrooms and bath houses. Will be back, should my travels take me across 70.
