Best Campgrounds near Larned, KS

Campgrounds near Larned, Kansas range from basic to full-service facilities, with several options scattered throughout the surrounding plains region. Cheyenne Bottoms Campground offers free primitive camping with fire rings and picnic tables, while locations like 4 Aces RV Park provide full hookup sites for both tent and RV campers. The landscape primarily consists of open prairie with some locations situated near lakes or wetlands. Most established campgrounds are within a 30-mile radius of Larned, creating a network of mixed-use sites across Pawnee, Barton, and Stafford counties.

Road conditions and site accessibility vary significantly by season in central Kansas. Many campgrounds remain open year-round, though weather conditions can affect accessibility. As one camper noted, "The road to get there has been graveled well so isn't muddy anymore" at Cheyenne Bottoms, though another mentioned "wouldn't try it in a heavy vehicle in wet weather, due to soft ground." Most developed campgrounds feature gravel or grass sites rather than paved pads. Cell service is generally reliable near established campgrounds, though coverage may diminish in more remote areas. Travelers should note that summer temperatures frequently exceed 90°F, while winter nights often drop below freezing, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons.

Several campgrounds in the area feature proximity to wildlife viewing opportunities, particularly near Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area. A visitor described the experience: "The marshlands exploded with sound. Frogs, crickets, owls, foxes, coyotes, and more wildlife sounds than I could identify." Noise levels vary by location, with highway-adjacent sites like Greensburg RV experiencing more traffic noise, while lake-oriented campgrounds offer more natural settings. The terrain is predominantly flat, making most sites accessible for larger RVs and trailers, though primitive areas may have limited space for larger vehicles. Most developed campgrounds provide basic amenities like showers and toilets, while primitive sites typically offer fire rings and picnic tables. Wind exposure remains a consistent factor across most locations, with limited natural barriers in this open prairie landscape.

    Sixth Street Park

Fantastic Spot on a hot muggy night

We had originally pulled in to Walmart but it was way to noisy with the trucks. Found this great spot in a beautiful city park watercand electricity for 10$

    Goodman State Fishing Lake

Almost flipped my bus and landed in the lake...

This place is definitely not a place to go. The roads have massive chunks taken out of them and I had it back up the entire weird road. Plus I have no place to park. Every spot is grass and everything is rain-sodding. I almost flipped my bus a couple times.

    Triple J RV Park

    Nice sites

We are slowly making our way to Montana and decided to stay for two nights. After seeing the campground we changed our plans and stayed a week. We were parked across from the dog park as requested. The laundry facilities were good and reasonably priced.

    Cheyenne Bottoms Campground

    Good for a stopover

Campground is small (6-7 spots) and right off dirt road. That said, quiet evening with one other couple camping. If full, would feel crowded. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table and there is a vault toilet. Lots of birds and had a Barred Owl fly right past me while I was setting up. Campground is adjacent to the Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife area, largest wetland in the interior US and important migratory bird location. About 45 minutes off I-70.

    4 Aces RV Park

    Nice, clean campground!

We just stopped to overnight so we didn't take advantage of all the amenities. Campground was clean and well kept. We had no issues hooking up and got a restful nights sleep aside from the occasional train.

    Cheyenne Bottoms Campground

    Easy peasy

This is a great stop if you’re traveling and just need a spot to park and camp for a night! Lots of bugs though! But it’s quiet, nobody else here, and a free simple place to sleep while we are passing through. Our pop up camper was super easy to pull in and the ground is flat :)

    Cheyenne Bottoms Campground

    Free BUT the mosquitos!

It is quiet and it is free and near a real nice town. Level but with gravel. Not smooth or grassy enough for ground sleeping without an air mattress. The road to get there has been graveled well so isn’t muddy anymore. Lots of trees to break the wind BUT then it doesn’t blow away the mosquitos. We didn’t have a tent and were going to sleep in tarp sandwiches BUT the mosquito army drove us on.

    4 Aces RV Park

    Peaceful Over Night Stop

We stopped here on our way back home from New Mexico. It was a clean, quite campground. The bathrooms were clean. Parking pads were level. We arrived afterhours, and used an envelope to pay. The payment system was pretty confusing. The pay envelopes stated different rates than the website, which also is different than what the employee told us on the phone.

We would stay here again if we needed to stop over night in the area.

    Pratt County Veterans Memorial Park

A City that Loves it’s Parks

We stayed here for 3 nights waiting for spring storms to pass in the central part of the country. Nice park that is part of a ecosystem of community swimming pool, tennis/pickle ball, ball diamonds and walking paths. Other park adjoining. $10.00 for electric/water per night. Gravel parking lot. Public restrooms with flush toilets.
