Very Nice

I was surprised at how well maintained this place is especially for a dispersed camping area.

Wallashuck Rec Area

Very nice campground, each sight has a fire ring and table, plus a lantern pole. It is in a city park like setting and on the lake. Fire wood for sale at the entrance, you have to get water at the entrance only electrical hook up. Showers are very clean and there is also a children’s play ground.

Very nice

Very nice corp park. Campsites were spaced well apart with plenty of room on pad around campsites, cell service was four bars and air tv 30 channels

Great location, tons of amenities

Marion County is often overlooked by people in favor of the various Red Rock campgrounds that are nearby, but in my opinion, unless you have a boat, there is nothing that puts Red Rock above Marion County. They have done a great job in recent years updating sites a few at a time, adding pavement…

Quaint campsite near a lake

I wish I new how to fish because this campsite offers a beautiful lake with plenty of bass. On top of that, the fire pit has a very nice two-tier cooking grate that can be rotated on or off the fire, although I couldn't find any firewood sold at the park, Indianola Iowa is just a few miles north…

Perfect, overnight stay

Great overnight stay. Got in later a little than planned, after hours. Very quiet— great nights sleep.

Hard to find real camping for free

Fire pits with grills and everything.

Unfortunately we were there in the dead of winter as a stop over on a road trip, but it was easy to find and easy to get into the park to the camp sites.

For just outside of Des Moines, pretty good spot.

Buck Stop Camp

About 1.5 mile hike to camp, nice moderate hike with wide trails. Listened to deer rutting all night and coyotes howling. Can’t wait to go again!

Off the beaten path

Very nice and quite location when I went mid September. Seems like a lot of trails to explore. Will go back again to explore more. Lots of hills.

Family Friendly

We tried to stay here on probably the hottest day of the year. It was just wayyyyy too hot so we made sandwiches and decided to drive through the night, but it wasn’t this KOA’s fault! Very friendly staff. Tons for kids and families to do. My only complaint is that where we were, tent spot…

Our Favorite

The owners are fantastic! The campground is well maintained and the stocked pond for fishing is a relaxing spot. Stop by and spend an evening. Well worth it.

Quiet and roomy

This campground is rather quiet and not usually busy. Each of the 10 campsites are spacious and plenty of distance between. Nice quick trails with wildlife. The park is well maintained and well priced!

Solitude, with plenty of company

This park may deserve a different rating at a different time of the year. This is Iowa's largest State Forest, and the Woodburn Unit plays host to several Backcountry campsites and 6 miles of trail. There is a picnic table and fire ring at every campsite. The trails are wide and well graded and not…

Fishing Camp

Campsite right on the water. Great fishing. Isolated campgrounds. Tent only none of that RV B.S.

KOA is OK

Newton KOA

This is the primary location for camping in Newton. It’s right off interstate I-80 and is very close to the Iowa Speedway.

There are places to go tent camping but it’s primarily setup for rvs. The tent camping spots have a picnic table and fire pit.

The RV sports are pretty nice,…
