Loved the Hike-in Sites

We came on Memorial Day weekend so the campground was very full. It didn't feel too crowded though except when playing on the playground there were lots of kids and its not a very big play area. But it was fun for the kids to play with other kids.

While I wish the tent are and comfort station…

  • Quick look at our campsite. Ours was definitely the biggest site with the most distance between our site and others. Ours was also the only one with the concrete pad area. And it was the closest to the tent parking area. There are 10 tent sites along the trail and they each get progressively further from the parking area.
  • Our campsite. Only thing I didn't like was the placement of the fire pit. It was right by the trail going to the other campsites so it was hard to get that secluded/privacy feeling when around the campfire. Also instead of having a grill on the campfire. There was a separate camping grill at the site.

Could be a lot better

The park used to be so well maintained by volunteers and it seems have gone downhill over the years

Very nice facility

Have stayed here numerous times. Always very clean. We have only stayed in the electric only sites as the full hookup sites are hard to come by. Very quiet at night and depending on your site, there are nice views of the summer sky. Some camping areas are more wooded than others and those also…

Lots of goose poop

Nice state park in the bit so great state of Illinois. Stayed July 4th weekend and it was blistering hot. This was a couple years ago. Pretty noisy also but that can happen anywhere. Nice lake for fishing and the whole park was great to take bike rides in. State park operated restaurant in park…

Nice clean park

Stay here a while ago on a last minute weekend away whim. Got to the park after dark and paid the next morning. Not being a holiday weekend we were able to find a site easily. Some sites are more conducive to tents than RVs which is great for both types of campers. Very open campground. Not a ton…

Fun park

This park has very nice hiking trails and a swimming beach. The kids had a great time, and I got to kick back and relax.

Fantastic backcountry sites

Short walk from the parking lot if carrying heavy gear, but still spaced out enough to feel isolated. Vault toilets right at the parking lot as well. Next to a big grassy area and hill for group games

My 'home' campsite.

I live about 30 minutes from Kickapoo SP and anytime I feel I need to camp I head over. Great little campground in Central Illinois. Some pretty trails overlooking, beside, and sometimes through water. The RV sites are great for either rv, van, or tent camping with a lot of level ground at most…

Beautiful park

Had a nice site on loop by the lake, but not on the lake. A short walk downhill though the trees. We were able to tie up our canoe there once we launched it by the concession stand. Facilities were clean and fairly spacious. The trails were lovely but the best part was watching the hummingbirds…

Nature. Nature. Nature.

This campground surprised us. We got there in the dark and woke up to Fall colors, Canadian geese, trails, playgrounds. We got in without a reservation and upgraded to a beautiful spot on the water. The LTE was a bit weak, that’s the only downside.

Keeping it basic (Primitive nonelectric site)

Have to walk to the site but if you want nonelectric/ primitive that’s what you get. Water pump at either side of the entry. Some outhouses available. Trails close as well as fishing areas. Large sites for camping. Deer and wildlife seen in the mornings. Really nice way to get off the grid for a…

Busy Central Illinois Campground on a lake

This is our go-to campground when visiting the U of I. It is a large campground with well spaced campsites for tents and rvs. Almost every site has plenty of shade with lots of tree cover. This also means in the dog days of summer the breeze is blocked by the trees so get an electric site even with…
