The Vaudeville

Accessible via city streets, The Vaudeville provides urban camping on private property with drive-in access and street parking available. This established campground operates without electrical hookups or generator use, requiring campers to plan accordingly for power needs during warmer months.

The site sits adjacent to an active commuter and freight rail line, with trains passing regularly throughout the day and night. One camper noted that "my inflatable sleeping pad seemed to amplify the vibration of the train going by," recommending earplugs for light sleepers. The property features level ground suitable for tent setup, with a maintained porta potty that includes nighttime lighting for convenience.

Campers appreciate the walkable access to public transportation, including nearby El stations for exploring camping near Chicago. The urban setting allows visitors to experience city camping while maintaining safety for evening walks. Multiple reviewers mentioned the welcoming nature of local neighbors, with one extended-stay camper reporting feeling "like we were part of the community" after a week-long visit.

For the best experience, bring earplugs and plan cooling strategies for hot weather since electrical power isn't available.

Many campers appreciated the friendly community atmosphere and well-maintained facilities. Train noise from adjacent rail lines was noted as a concern, though some found it peaceful for weekend stays.

Unique Urban Experience

Porta potty was spotless and had nighttime lighting. It was easy to find a level spot to pitch my tent. I didn't end up meeting Nicki or really interacting beyond some minimal booking details. I'm not a light sleeper but I was glad I brought earplugs since I'm not accustomed to being right next to a commuter/freight rail line. My inflatable sleeping pad seemed to amplify the vibration of the train going by. I easily found street parking and felt safe walking to the El at dusk. (I'm a city dweller so ymmv if you're not accustomed to a city lifestyle).

Great place to camp and see Chicago

We stayed here code a week while my husband had to fly out for work. It was safe, and everyone was so friendly and kind. The neighbors welcomed us and by the time we had to leave we felt like we were part of the community. There is easy access to public transportation. It was HOT and there are no plug ins or use of generators so plan accordingly
