Winter camping is possible at some sites but requires proper cold-weather gear and preparation for snow-covered access roads.

Fishing opportunities: Standley Lake Regional Park features a large reservoir where anglers can catch various species. "I don't know how you could not like a place with a huge lake that bald eagles nest beside. With a rookery, this is the spot for bird enthusiasts!" notes Blair S.
Wildlife viewing: Morning and evening hours offer the best chance to spot wildlife. "Moose visitors at dawn and evening, and hungry bears scavenging for food at night is a common occurrence," reports Amanda V. about her experience at Gordon Gulch Dispersed Area.
Water recreation: Several campgrounds offer paddling options on their lakes and reservoirs. "Rent a floatation device or bring your own and enjoy the warmth on the lake," suggests Fairy T. about Standley Lake. The reservoir also offers rentals: "If you don't have a paddle craft they rent them there. You can rent a kayak, a paddle board, a canoe, or a paddle bicycle on a pontoon!"

Proximity to urban amenities: Clear Creek RV Park offers a camping experience with city conveniences nearby. "Stayed here for a month and a half with electric only. Along a gorgeous walking path to the mountains, within immediate walking distance to multiple breweries and restaurants, and extremely accessible to the mountains," says Janine R.
Open space: Several dog friendly campgrounds near Broomfield feature spacious sites. Dennis G. notes about Reverend's Ridge Campground: "Campground is very clean. Loop E (electric hookups) is very spacious and well laid out. Every campsite is a pull thru allowing you situate anywhere along the paved area to best suit your needs. Mostly level, fire rings, and very large metal picnic tables. Enormous amount of room."
Mountain views: The elevation changes near Broomfield create scenic camping opportunities. "The view of the mountains is to die for!" exclaims Kate B. about her stay at St. Vrain State Park. Another camper adds: "Walk up the hill to the open space adjacent to the campground for a view of the mountains and the city."
What you should know
Weather fluctuations: Temperatures can change dramatically in a single day. "We stayed in site 18, had great views and nice weather, no water though but there is a lake down the road. 4x4 Required as roads were rough," notes Marco Antonio B. about Winiger Ridge at Gross Reservoir.
Highway noise: Some campgrounds experience traffic sounds. "I-25. The interstate is so close as I type this I can hear in my travel trailer every truck, motorcycle, and car. Going to have to use earplugs tonight to sleep. It's F##king insane the noise," warns Paul Z. about St. Vrain State Park.
