Colorado Parks & Wildlife manages St. Vrain State Park, which encompasses this campground just off Interstate 25 near Firestone. The facility operates year-round with both electric-only and full hookup sites, accommodating RVs up to 40 feet on level concrete pads.
Each campsite includes a covered picnic table, fire ring with cooking platform, and defined parking area. The north campground features mature shade trees and houses the main shower building, while the south section with full hookups remains more open with vault toilets. Kim B. notes the "North side has matured shade trees though out and the large Shower House." Highway noise from nearby I-25 creates a constant backdrop that some campers find intrusive, particularly for tent camping.
Multiple fishing ponds attract anglers targeting stocked rainbow trout, with Kellen T. reporting "caught about ten rainbow trout in a couple of hours." Walking trails circle the water bodies where bald eagles, waterfowl, and various bird species congregate. Only non-motorized watercraft like kayaks and paddleboards are permitted on the water. Swimming and wading are prohibited.
The campground requires reservations up to six months in advance due to consistent demand from Front Range residents. A dump station operates at the entrance, and WiFi coverage extends throughout the facility. Mosquitoes peak at dawn and dusk during warmer months. The location provides convenient access to Longmont and serves as a staging point for trips to Rocky Mountain National Park without navigating mountain roads with an RV.
This campground works well for RV travelers seeking full hookups near Denver and anglers prioritizing easy water access over backcountry solitude.
