Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney

SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Gravel underfoot and city skyline at your back, Applewood RV Resort by Rjourney occupies a utilitarian stretch of Wheat Ridge that functions more as a well-maintained urban staging ground than a wilderness retreat. The sites are close together, the surface is all gravel, and shade is minimal. What it provides in return is proximity: quick interstate access, full hookups for RVs up to 47 feet, and a location that makes day trips to Denver, Golden, and Red Rocks straightforward rather than a production.

Reviewers consistently flag the tight spacing between rigs as the campground's most notable drawback. Several mention long-term residents occupying a portion of the sites, which shapes the overall atmosphere. That said, the facilities hold up well under scrutiny. Patti P. notes the campground stays "peacefully quiet," and Maria M. points out that the showers are private with a personal key, which she calls "pure luxury." Bathrooms and laundry get high marks across multiple reviews for cleanliness and upkeep.

Directly adjacent to the campground sits a greenbelt with ponds, walking and biking paths, and access to Clear Creek. Prospect Lake is within easy walking distance, which makes this a workable stop for dog owners. A bus to Denver's Union Station runs hourly just outside the property, giving campers without a car a direct route into the city. The Walmart Arvada Supercenter is a short drive for resupply.

A few practical notes worth knowing before arrival: water pressure at hookups runs high, so bring a pressure regulator to avoid problems. The sewer connection sits about six inches above grade, which may require lifting your hose to drain properly. WiFi has received mixed reports, with some campers finding it too slow for sustained use. Street lighting near certain sites, including around site 51, can illuminate the interior of an RV through the night. Rates have drawn criticism from several reviewers as running high relative to what the sites deliver.

Campers exploring places to camp around Wheat Ridge will find options ranging from urban RV parks to more remote public land, but for those who need a reliable, clean base with full hookups close to Denver's western suburbs, Applewood covers the fundamentals without pretense.

Many campers appreciated the clean facilities and friendly staff, plus convenient Denver access and nearby park trails. However, some visitors expressed disappointment with tight gravel sites and high pricing for the basic amenities offered.

Great hiking and biking trails

The park was okay if you are looking for something overnight. And very expensive and very crowded and no room between rigs. Looks like fulltime living in some spaces. It does have laundry service. And it has a great park just beside it. And there are beautiful hiking and biking trails right next to the facility. And it is very dog friendly.

OK.. Just but overpriced, avoid site 51

Clean, level, absolutely nothing fancy. Great park for kids nearby but $120 for a 25ft for a night seems crazy. Site 51 and around it has 2 massive street lights which lit up our rv all night. Avoid if you can!

Overpriced long term park

Called this park to inquire on a spot for long term and the rate was $1700 plus electric. For the size and condition of this park, that is outrageously overpriced.

Zero stars if I could

AVOID!

Gravel parking lot with extension cords (2) for electrical- no water. $76 !!!!! Crazy !

We were squeezed next to 1960 motor coach permanent resident. It had creepy mirrored windows. On the other side was a wooden fence and behind us was the wooden fence with extension cords draped over it.

Did not even venture to the laundry or bathrooms. 2 sites down was a big dog on a 30’ cord. Owner not around. Office closed as soon as we checked in- were they embarrassed to be charging this much for such a dismal site?? Left a note that we were disappointed but never heard from them. AVOID the place!

Super convenient place to explore Denver

A campground as expected close to a big city: Gravel sites, close quarters, and no views. However, the bus to Union Station leaves every hour just outside the campground - so with an easy 30 min trip, you are in the center of Denver! Could not be any easier when camping without a car. Bathroom and shower were private with a personal key - pure luxury! And everything was very nice and clean.

Good location

Good location close to interstate to access all the cool towns and site seeing west of Denver. We stayed for softball tournament and we were very close to Lotz park and about 25 minutes from Westminister parks.

Spots were VERY CLOSE together so we didn’t like that at all. Definitely not the Colorado outdoorsy feel. A lot of long term folks there too. Neighborhood felt a little sketchy but we we didn’t have any issues.

Close to Prospect lake so a good place to walk dogs.

Facilities were very clean and well maintained.

No frills park, quiet but overpriced

This park’s new name is Applewood but the signs are still Prospect. It was pretty basic however there’s not many choices in Denver and the state parks are booked up months out. We weren’t looking for a resort destination since we were there to help our daughter through surgery. It met our need for location, otherwise pretty basic. All gravel sites and little shade. The bathrooms and laundry were very clean. Looks like 50% full time residents but it was extremely quiet the entire stay. No noise from neighbors or traffic. Located right behind it is a large green belt with ponds, a park, biking and walking path as well as Clear Creek. Be sure to have a water pressure regulator or you’ll come back to a flooded RV. Only negatives were the internet was a snail pace. We couldn’t keep anything logged in. The sewer is 6 inches above grade and slinky support wasn’t tall enough. You might be lifting your hose to assist emptying. All in all, the price was $20/night too high. It should be more in the $40 range.

This is now Applewood RV resort

The name has changed; there was an abrupt change of ownership recently.   The web page for Prospect RV Park will get you nothing, and the phone number is disconnected.

The new contact info is Applewood RV resort, 303-872-0091, web page https://rjourney.com/locations/co/wheat-ridge/applewood-rv-resort-llc

Seems from reviews to be nice; it's annoying that "Prospect RV Park" seems to have evaporated from the planet, and it took a lot of googling to find out about the name/ownership change.  It would be nice if the phone/web page had some forwarding.  (That's why just three stars; I may change that after we've stayed there.)

The best

We were having such a hard time finding a place for our skoolie for the night and after being turned down numerous times this park accommodated us for the night. Welcomed in the office by their dogs which was fantastic, and the staff was very helpful with places we could check out to stay. I would definitely recommend this rv park for sure!

Not bad for Colorado, I would stay here again .

Prospect rv park This park in the city of wheat ridge co. It's a nice place, close to stores, gas, and Denver. The prices are reasonable for Co. $42 plus tax. It's an alternative to chatfield state park because chatfield fills up quickly especially for the weekends. The owners are very friendly and accommodating.

Clean and very quiet

This is a peacefully quiet campground, which is good because the campground sites are close together. It is very conveniently located to enjoy the sites of Denver and surrounding areas or take in a concert at Red Rocks. We stayed for four days and never had any issues.

Convenient Location, Helpful Staff

No frills, relatively quiet for being close to the freeway. Access to a county park and walking trails was a plus. Nice laundry facility. Provided with a key to an independent restroom with shower. Just hang an occupied sign on the doorknob and lock yourself in for a nice shower.

Verizon cell coverage was enough to stream.

Perfect urban campground

I was stranded in Denver by a snow storm ahead. I called Prospect and they found a spot for me. When I walked in the office, I was greeted by 5 wonderful sweet dogs. I love dogs so there couldn't have been a better greeting. Kathy was very friendly and helpful. I was a bit early but she juggled things around and got me in. Dump station is convenient and easy to use. Showers (hot and clean!) are private and you have your own key. The laundry was great too. They had a nice pull through available close to the restrooms. It was a great spot to rest for a few days. You can run errands/do shopping - everything is nearby. Nice to charge up and fill up my water tank. I didn't have to do much leveling at all. The spaces aren't too close. It is all gravel which I hated for the dog but right next to it is a nice lake and park which connects to hiking trails. So you're in the city but a few steps away, you feel like you're out. Best of both worlds. Lots of friendly folks in the park. I almost didn't want to leave. They sure helped me out and I enjoyed my stay.

Urban RV park close to everything

This place is good for what it is. If you want to be close to the city and have easy access to any kind of shopping imaginable, this will meet your needs. The sites are very tight and the entire place is gravel, so this is not the place to go to get out into the wild. It does have easy access to Prospect Park and a series of greenways that are virtually endless. You can easily bike to 3 small lakes or take a longer bike ride to other larger parks. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The laundry facility was clean and well kept. I recommend checking out Golden and driving to Lookout Mountain. It’s about 20 minutes away and gives you an unbelievable view of the Denver metro area.
