I observed a lot of drug use and abuse there

My opinion is it's a beautiful park but it's management is horrible.  The owner should get a nice couple in there so he can be proud of his park.

    Lake Havasu State Park Campground

Overflow Parking with a Beach View...Yes, Please!

We love it when parks have a plan for traveling campers like us who hate making reservations, and Lake Havasu came through in spades. They have a whole section of their campground dedicated to folks like us. We pulled up, grabbed a space, and spent the night right by the lakeshore.

I’m afraid we didn’t take pictures of the parking area as we were so taken with the view! It’s a huge parking lot with dedicated camping spaces, with picnic tables, trash cans and plenty of space between your neighbors. The bathrooms offer flush toilets, sinks and warm showers.

The RV dump tanks were close by, as is the vast boat launch area. While the overnight area might be a little more spartan, the rest of the park is gorgeous with looping campsite areas, rentable cabins, and winding paths.

Yet, it’s still within the town limits, so everything you might need, or want, is a short walk, bike ride, or drive away. You can even catch the ferry to the casinos across the lake if you want to lose your spending money.

Hiking, biking and paddling opportunities could all be reached from the campsite. Each site along the beach had some trees for shade, but all the sunshine you could want for solar power as well.  We’ll keep this place in mind when we want a quick overnight with some shower access close to town.

AZ State Land Recreational Area Dispersed Site

    Stellar Sunsets & Views

This dispersed camping area which requires a ridiculously inexpensive online permit ($20 per year), was perfect for what we needed. Our closest neighbor was about ¼ mile away, and we had views and sunsets aplenty. There is access to the Lake Havasu, but only by OHV or on foot, we chose the latter.

The roads in from the highway are rough and rocky, but doable if you take it slow.  Once again our 67 year old vintage camper did great getting to our spot, though we recommend parking and walking the roads before committing to the drive in.

There’s hiking opportunities right out your front door, and nothing but the highway or the lake to stop your progress. The nearby Cattail Cove State Park offers designated hiking trails through the rugged desert terrain.

Nothing in the way of services, so bring your own...but lots of space to be alone and private.  And, with sun, sun, sun, the California/ Arizona skies are great for solar gathering, so bring out all your panels. Starlink internet worked well too.

Lake Havasu city is about 15 minutes up the road, and there you can find everything you might need in terms of services and supplies. Check out the world famous London Bridge while you’re there, too!

    Got Camping Plans for Christmas?

We stumbled onto this lovely state park campground on Christmas Eve, with no reservations (as usual) and found more than just a lovely campsite, but a whole community of campers. Each year this small park hosts a thriving Christmas potluck which is managed by their long term volunteer camp host couple. Many families plan their year around getting a reservation to be at this place on Christmas day!  We were simply blown away by the community, camaraderie, and fellowship we found here.

We even tried out our first run at making homemade tamales – turned out pretty good.

Now the sites are what you might expect to see, slightly less than spacious lots with a bit of  elbow room in between your neighbors. All sites are electrical and water serviced, so no need to have generators running into the wee hours. With lots of well cared for cottonwood trees, the sites offer lots of shade and space to enjoy your area.

The bathrooms have flush toilets with warm showers, and while a little dated, they were clean and did the job.  Nice dishwashing sink (wish more parks had these!) and picnic tables all over the place.  I think we ate nearly every meal down by the water.

The lake shore offers a good boat launch with a massive trailer parking area, and a small swimming area as well. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards from the park to enjoy the water, just be aware of the way the wind is blowing -- it can get fierce quickly! There is a beach volleyball court at the water's edge and hiking trails leave directly from the park and wind along the lakeshore and into the desert landscape.

Lake Havasu city is about 15 minutes up the road, and there you can find everything you might need in terms of services and supplies. Check out the world famous London Bridge while you’re there.

    Alamo Lake State Park Campground

    Beautiful Lake

A few things. 1st. If you plan on staying overnight with an RV do not reserve the Ramada sites. They’re meant for day use and are super tiny and squished together. We started there, but our 24ft trailer wasn’t even close to fitting. So we had to move.

We moved to the sites with no water and no electric. Super awesome sites, very clean and very quiet.

Donkeys…..there are tons of donkeys, really cool…..the first night. They’re cool until you realize they don’t sleep and all they do is make a lot of noise, lol. Not that I wouldn’t go back again because of the donkeys, but just be prepared they’re not far away and they make the “hee-haw” noise All Night Long, lol.

Don’t camp here without water sports or Side by side. There aren’t any trails for bike riding or hiking. But the water is great to spend a couple of days on and the Side by side trails are endless.

Overall, really nice camping. I would definitely go back, with or without a SxS. Just not in the summer….there’s no shade and it’s desert.

    La Mirage RV Park

    Nothing like advertised

We got here and after reading all the great reviews about having bathroom showers and a laundromat it has absolutely nothing only the laundromat. There are no picnic tables. There is no fire ring. After calling the person we spoke to back we were told we could not get her money back and try to find another site with a toilet and showers. So we are stuck here. Add an outrageous price for what there is.

    Great stay, bad bugs

Pros: Cute area, great sized spots, no issues with the camp grounds or amenities. River was awesome for the kids. Cons: The river area became packed from people setting out tents as soon as the sun came up, and the mosquitoes were TERRIBLE as soon as the sun began to set. Kids had so many bites from the first night we did not enjoy going out once the sun began setting. We tried sprays, candles, and other products and they helped a little but still bad.

    Dome Rock Road Camp

    Beautiful open space camping

We'd been staying at a county park on the Colorado River and had been driving to several hiking spots. We decided to boondock for a weekend and Dome Rock 14-day was perfect (and free!). Close to highway for easy access, but we chose a site far enough away we weren't bothered by the traffic noise. We could let our dogs off leash, went for long hikes through the creek beds and up the smaller mountains. We did use our gennie periodically to keep everything running (evenings to use appliances and top the battery off). The temps were great and there was some rain one night but no accumulation.

    River Island State Park Campground

One of the Best State Parks We've Experienced

We arrived with no issues, though our RV GPS wanted to take us to the main ranger station about 4 miles before the campground(CG). Waze took us right to the CG. We arrived 30 minutes after their 2:00 PM check-in time, and the little ranger station was closed, so we proceeded to water and electric(50/30/20 AMP) site 23 and had no problem backing into this site. The utilities are centered on the pad, which was nice, and the water pressure was about 40 psi. One of the first things we noticed about this CG was how clean it was when we saw camp hosts cleaning sites and manicuring the gravel around them. The sites here are decently spaced. Site 23 was long enough for our 40’ 5th wheel with space to park our F450 off to the side of the asphalt pad. There was also a jumbo-sized picnic table and a stand-up barbecue. The Verizon signal was iffy, sometimes getting 1 bar depending on where you are in the CG. They have Wifi at the ranger station, which was okay. There are shade trees here and there throughout the CG, but we had no problem getting a clear shot of the northern sky for Starlink. This state park has a nice-sized agility dog park in which they have grass and keep it watered. Suggest you arrive before 3:00 PM as the office closes early. Parker about 20 minutes away has your major amenities such as Walmart. Lake Havasu City has some tourist attractions worth checking out, such as the London Bridge. You cannot beat the mountain views, and we wished we’d stayed longer than just four days.

    BLM Dispersed Camping Havasu

Good but know what your getting

Coming from 95 the right side has long more private pull ins but it’s very hard to turn around, narrow, and very sketchy if you have low clearance vehicles. The left side is flat, easy to get in and out but is very crowded and not private at all. There was probably about 25 rvs, cars, and other rigs to the left. We drove pretty far back on the right side (as far as our car would get us) but ended up turning around and sleeping in the very first spot next to the road.

    Godsend on late arrival

This was our first overnight in our new overcab camper truck rig, family of four with two young girls. Drove back about 2 mi, lots of folks, finally found a quiet area with even a bit of kale overlook, on a short offshoot road Left of the main, and stayed a very peaceful night. Not a place to stay all day, but good for boondocking. All the campers seemed respectful and very friendly. “No bad days,” havasu style;)
