Good dry camp

Dusty when it blows, burros come to water once or twice a day. They don't like dogs, but tolerate our cat. Hosts are very good, clean pit toilet, Good dump & water at Parker, "Boondockers" . Walmart is best for drinking & coffee water. Good cheap base for exploring the area. Very old history for past 100 years.

Fun spot, friendly campers and donkeys

Pros: organized BLM campsites! Small, picnic tables, water access, upper exposed sites have better wifi, pit toilet. No road noise, and the daily visitors are cute (but watch your dogs, these burros are friendly with humans, not with dogs)

I showed up alone and met 7 other solo women vanlifing as well as a few other super friendly couples.

Cons: pit toilet could use a scrubbing, and ran out of TP, jet boats are obnoxiously loud, poor wifi

Nice little spot on the river

This is a pretty organized little BLM campground. Spots are clearly designated with posts to separate them. There are three areas; the upper entrance area, the left of the park host, and the right of the park host.

We initially parked on the left side by the river but quickly figured out there is no cell service there. Moving to the upper entrance area improved signal substantially although it is more out in the open and faces the neighboring trailer park. Nevertheless, it’s quiet and still only a short walk to the water. On the right side of the host is a beach access area that’s quite nice.

Almost all the spots are clean and the park host is very active and watching the grounds well. He drives around on his little golf cart and we see him several times a day. Makes it feel very secure!

There are tons of burros and burritos this time of year which is a delight!

Pros: Burros and burritos River access Designated spots GREAT host

Cons: Small so spots may be unavailable Spotty cell service

Great small CG on the river

This is a great small BLM CG along the river. Used to be mostly reserve only but as of Nov 11 2031 there was no host and the site seems to have reverted to a first come arrangement. There are 26 sites with 1-20 on the lowered level by the river and many sites have shade. Sites 21-26 are on the upper level and there is no shade there but are away from the water where day use happens on weekends. Vault toilet, trash dumpster, tables and fire rings. Cell signal is very good. Sites are still only $5/$2.50 senior and that is incredible!! Usually has a host onsite but none present Nov 2021.

Wind & Water

We've been to this campground twice, tent camping, and love the river access. Both times it got very windy, which made certain activities like cooking difficult. Went in summer to try and avoid people - 2 years ago before the Coronapocalypse, we had the place to ourselves, but in 2021 there were a couple more campers and also a few driving in and out, using as a day use area since most of the actual day use areas were full. There were also burros who came down to the river. They didn't mess with us, though one pregnant looking one stared at us a long time. I don't know if she was expecting to be fed maybe? The toilet is fine though we brought TP to be sure we'd have some. Pay attention to the reservations on the posts. Bring sunscreen and shade with stuff to windproof it. Stay up late and turn off your lights to enjoy the stargazing.

The price is right!

Very nice spot on the California side of the Colorado river. No hookups, but nice tables & gravel lots. If you have your lifetime passport for American parks it’s only 2.50 a night! Can’t beat that! I loved the river and watching the duck, roadrunners, and quail. I didn’t however see any donkeys which was disappointing.

What a gem!

We showed up after dark and the camp host came right out to welcome us and show us to our site. The site I had picked out was very small but right up against the river. The host (Mike?) invited us to change sites to the one at the very end and we couldn't have been luckier! I think it was site 19, but it felt very private but open to the water and had a little walkway to the river so it was like we had a private beach. It was our very first experience RV camping, so we didn't expect any frills and we didn't get any… but it was magical to wake up and walk outside and watch the sunrise!

Don't expect a ton of privacy (although we felt we had some where we were) especially if you're not along the water. This isn't the type of campground for a long stay, but for a shorty trip I would MUCH rather be here than in the RV parking lot type of "campgrounds" for sure.

There is a vault toilet that is simple but clean and the host put a couple DVDs at the info station which I thought was a cute touch. There are great trees along the water's edge but don't expect a lot of shade. Perfect on a clear night to stargaze!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Crossroads Campground located in Arizona?

Crossroads Campground is actually located on the California side of the Colorado River, not in Arizona. It's situated near Earp, Arizona, which is just across the river. This BLM-managed campground serves as a good base for exploring the surrounding area. The nearest town for supplies appears to be Parker, where you can find drinking water, dump stations, and other amenities. The campground's riverside location provides a peaceful setting with desert trails across the road for ATV enthusiasts.

Can you camp along the Colorado River near Crossroads Campground?

Yes, Crossroads Campground offers excellent Colorado River camping opportunities. The campground has approximately 25 sites, with many directly bordering the river. There's a small beach area perfect for swimming or launching kayaks. Sites along the river are highly coveted, providing immediate water access. The riverside location creates beautiful views but can occasionally get windy. Many campers particularly enjoy watching wildlife including ducks, roadrunners, and quail along the river's edge. The riverside sites (numbered 1-20) are on a lower level closer to the water, while sites 21-26 are on a higher level.

How does Crossroads Campground compare to other campgrounds in California?

Crossroads Campground offers exceptional value compared to many California campgrounds. At only $5 per night (or just $2.50 with a lifetime America the Beautiful pass), it's significantly more affordable than most options in California. It's a dry camping/boondocking setup with no hookups, but provides amenities like pit toilets, picnic tables, and organized sites with gravel lots. The campground is smaller and more intimate than many California options with just 26 well-defined sites. What sets it apart is the direct Colorado River access, shade from Salt Cedar trees at many sites, and wildlife viewing opportunities. The campground also features an attentive host and a clean, well-maintained facility.
