River access and burro sightings draw campers to this 26-site BLM campground along the Colorado River. Crossroads Campground sits on open terrain with sites split between a lower level near the water and an upper area that stays drier during busy periods.
The lower sites (1-20) border the river and offer shade from salt cedar trees, while the upper sites (21-26) provide better cell service but lack natural cover. Kate W. found site 19 felt "very private but open to the water and had a little walkway to the river so it was like we had a private beach." Wild burros visit the water once or twice daily, creating entertainment for campers but potential issues for dogs. The campground operates with an active host who patrols on a golf cart and maintains clean vault toilets.
Water activities dominate the recreation options here. A small beach area allows swimming and kayaking, though jet boats can create noise during peak times. Desert trails across the road accommodate ATV use. The $5 nightly fee drops to $2.50 for senior pass holders, making this one of the more affordable river camping options in the area.
Access requires navigating rough roads that become more challenging in wet conditions. Sites accommodate RVs up to 50 feet, and the campground typically operates on a reservation system through recreation.gov, though availability sometimes shifts to first-come basis when no host is present. Wind can create dusty conditions and complicate outdoor cooking. Cell service varies significantly by location within the campground.
The combination of budget pricing, direct river access, and organized sites makes Crossroads work well for short stays focused on water recreation rather than extended camping trips.
