Here are my star ratings based on my lifestyle and what I like. I'm also a mother, dog mama, and a wife so it's not just me it's my crew and i. 1 star- AUTOMATIC relocate… the property is no longer there, trashed or/and I could never have my children there and I wouldn't ever think about staying no matter what. 2 star- Not really my jam, and would NEVER go to again… It probably more of desert life and not really my style for sure…Being from Vegas I can't stand being in the desert and I love the Trees and the Green more than anything. 3 star- Would stay there again in a pinch, but not really my style, the reason its not is because not enough family things to do, the scenery, or the location… but I would go again and feel safe having my kiddos here but only if I needed to in a pinch. 4 star- a really good rating for sure, maybe needed some improvements, minor things like being on top of each other, not a lot of privacy, but honestly little cosmetic things that aren't anything to sweat and would be back again for sure. 5 star- MY FAVORITE… love the location, safety, the surroundings, big camp spots available to fit toys for my kids to play, hammocks to hang, our big family tent, cases of firewood, our suburban or RV, etcccccc….. I would not only come back but would live if I could!!! Anyway thanks for reading and enjoy every moment like it's your last! CHEERS!

    Alamo Lake State Park Campground

    Great Fishing!

I grew up in Arizona and had never been to Alamo Lake.  The lake is kind of in the middle of nowhere but what a hidden treasure. We camped there in March 2018.  It was on the warm side.  The area is best suited for camping October - March.  This is the desert people.  Or if you have a giant RV with air conditioning and cable television, you could go anytime.  Fish early in the morning and late at night.

The campground is rather large with different areas for tent camping and hook-ups.  We stayed with an electric and water hook-up in a pop-up tent trailer.  There were lots of big rigs and toy haulers.  We definitely had toy envy with only our pop-up and kayaks.  This is a big ATV area so there were lots of ATVs riding around.  People also had speed boat and canoes.  The campground was not completely full even though it was Easter weekend.  It was also relatively quiet.  The bathrooms were sparkling clean and had nice showers with hot water.  There was also an AMAZING fish cleaning area at each campsite loop.  If you aren't really a campsite person, there is dispersed camping available by the shore but you need to drive down a dirt road through a tiny fork in the road "town" called Wayside.  There is a bar/restaurant/store/campground/gas station in Wayside.  The next town is about 30 miles away.

We found some great fishing which is unusual for Arizona.  We caught bass, bluegill and catfish.  We saw people catching a lot of fish.  They have bass fishing competitions at this lake and I can see why.

The lake is surrounded by pretty red mountains. The sky is a beautiful blue.  I highly recommend the area.  Not too crowded, good fishing, nice clean campground.  What more could you want but maybe a nice cold beer!

    Quartzite - La Posa

Camping in the winter in the desert, nice

I camped in La Posa South area which is one of several areas for long term camping on BLM land near Quartzsite, AZ. You can buy a permit to camp in any of the areas for the season which I believe starts in November and ends in April. They also offer permits for two week intervals if you are not planning on camping all season. It is dry camping although there is a dump station and water available along with a row of dumpsters in each area for trash. This place fills up in the winter but there are still plenty of areas to find a good camping spot. If you do camp farther out watch out for traffic from ATV's and four wheelers who don't seem to believe the speed limits apply to them.

    Lake Havasu State Park Campground

    Arizona State Beach

Camped here  April 28 and stayed for 2 nights. Was very close to home but wanted to test out the new trailer. It's $30 a night for non beach sites and $40 for beach front. The sites are well separated and there are fire rings, cabana and picnic tables at each site. There is also water and electric at all sites, 30 and 50 amp.  Its was very warm the days we stayed and had the A/C on the whole time. There are flush toilets and showers available. Nice hiking trails around the park. The campground staff are all pleasant and they keep the sites and bathrooms very clean. Its even close enough to town that you can walk to many nice restaurants. The beach's are sandy and you have a nice view of the sunset over the water in the evening. There is a dump station for those with holding tanks. All sites are reservable and there are also air conditioned cabins for rent.

    Quartzite - La Posa

    Boondocking at its best

La Posa BLM has several entrances and is massive. It makes reviews tough on this because it depends which area you are in. I’m am reviewing Tyson Wash and South.

I do not recommend Tyson Wash for large RVs. They are there, but there are areas where the ground is deceptively soft. We got our 38ft class a stuck and had to be towed out. It’s stunning and is very quiet there, but use extreme caution with heavy rigs.

After we were freed, we crossed over to South. South is the area where you can dump, get water, and empty trash. You MUST have a permit to use the stations. There are two permits; short and long term. Short is two weeks and $40. Long (LTVA) is Sept 15-Apr 15 and is $180.

Because South is access to the stations, it is very busy there. People park in groups and are quite close. If you like socializing and whatnot, the lower part of South is for you. The upper area is a dirt road access in but very quiet with enormous space between rigs. It is almost entirely big rigs who have tip outs and such…much more private area. Please do your best to respect the space up in that area. It’s literally the reason for being there.

This is probably one of the best Boondocking areas I’ve ever seen if you know what you want. Because of the stations, there are reasonable fees but I highly recommend it.

Guide to Parker

Parker, Arizona sits on the border of California along the Colorado River at an elevation of around 450 feet. The area experiences extremely hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 110°F, while winters remain mild with daytime highs in the 60-70°F range. Cell service can vary dramatically between RV parks, with riverside locations typically offering stronger Verizon coverage than inland campgrounds.

What to do

River recreation access: Many RV sites near Parker, Arizona feature direct water access. Arizona Oasis RV Resort provides a boat launch right on the Colorado River where "you can drive to the desert trails in about 2 minutes and ride for hours. All sites are full hook up, streets are gravel, sites have a cement pad and the rest is gravel and can accommodate even the longest set ups," according to Dawn F.

Swimming options: Most riverside parks offer swimming areas, and several feature pools. At Islander RV Resort, visitors appreciate "a nice resort-style swimming pool. You can launch your boat right from the marina here, and there are a few little coves that are perfect for swimming if you don't have a watercraft."

Desert exploration: The surrounding desert offers extensive trail systems for various activities. At Black Rock RV Village, "Hundreds of trails, pet friendly. It's fantastic," shares Cliff K. This makes the area ideal for hikers, off-road enthusiasts, and nature photographers year-round.

What campers like

Community atmosphere: Many parks foster a social environment with organized activities. Black Rock RV Village provides "3 club houses and one of them is very large. They have activities throughout the week," according to Missy C., who adds they "have mail boxes as well" for longer-term guests.

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention well-maintained bathrooms and laundry facilities. At Bouse RV Park, one camper noted it's a "Nice spot to come after boondocking to fill water, laundry and shower. Sites are close with little privacy. Staff is helpful. Laundry $2.50 per wash and dry."

Seasonal programming: Many RV camping areas near Parker operate with seasonal schedules and special events. "We stayed here over Labor Day weekend and had a great time. Not much for a scenic view but the amenities are nice and the campground is very clean," reports Alex H. about Islander RV Resort.

What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Many Parker area RV parks feature closely positioned sites. As Linda L. notes about Arizona Oasis RV Resort, "Sites were so close to each other. There were quite a few RVs that appeared to be permanent stays." This is common throughout the region, though Black Rock RV Village offers "large pull threw sites" according to reviewers.

Noise factors: Some campgrounds experience significant ambient noise. At Desert Pueblo RV Resort, Sara P. reported "Super loud road noise and there's only wifi in the 'community center.'" Another visitor mentioned "semi traffic noise and train noise all night long" in the overnight section.

Temperature considerations: The extreme summer heat affects comfort levels at many parks. Arizona Oasis has "Nice pool only problem is it's a little too warm with it being so hot. The hot tub, kid pool and pool were all the exact same temp," according to one reviewer, highlighting the challenge of keeping facilities cool during peak temperatures.
