Several RV campgrounds dot the countryside within 30 miles of Oaks, Pennsylvania, with options ranging from full-hookup RV campgrounds to big-rig-friendly resorts. Village Scene Park in Hatfield provides year-round RV camping with full hookups including 50-amp service, making it exclusively dedicated to RV accommodations. Lake-In-Wood Campground in Narvon features spacious RV sites with both 30-amp and 50-amp electrical options, gravel pads, and full hookup capabilities. Spring Gulch Resort Campground, operating from March through December, accommodates big rigs with 50-amp service and complete hookups on level sites. Thousand Trails Circle M in Lancaster offers RV sites with water, electric, and sewer connections from April through November. "Sites are spacious level sites with gravel pads, full hookups, and fire rings," noted one camper about the region's typical setup.

Navigation to some RV parks requires careful planning, particularly for larger motorhomes. Narrow roads with tight turns present challenges at certain campgrounds, with one RVer reporting, "The roads are very narrow, pretty sizable boulders on both sides, trees are very low and need to be trimmed." Cell service varies significantly across the region - Verizon coverage ranges from strong to minimal depending on location, while AT&T service is generally more consistent. Most RV parks in the area are pet-friendly with designated dog areas. Dump stations are available at all full-hookup campgrounds, though some may charge additional fees for this service. Propane refill stations exist at several locations including Appalachian Camping Resort. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during peak seasons from May through October when Lancaster County attractions draw significant RV traffic.

      Lowe's - W Windsor

Upscale Parking Paradise at This Home Fixer-Upper

Located just off US Route 1 in the upscale Princeton area, this spacious Lowe's serves up a surprisingly pleasant patch of pavement for weary road warriors looking to catch some shut-eye. Set back roughly 80 yards from the highway, this big blue home improvement retailer offers a generously sized parking lot with relatively manageable traffic, good maneuverability and a quieter atmosphere than you might expect from such a busy suburban retail corridor. The western and southern edges of the lot are particularly appealing for an overnight stay, and with Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several other retailers nearby, convenience certainly isn't in short supply. Better yet, the store management was friendly and accommodating when we called ahead to arrange our overnight visit.

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Spacious, paved parking lot with plenty of room to maneuver larger rigs; (2) Convenient access to US Route 1 and nearby I-95; (3) Western and southern parking areas offer quieter spots away from the busiest customer traffic; (4) Excellent nearby conveniences, including Trader Joe's, Starbucks and several dining options; and (5) Friendly store management that welcomed our overnight stay, plus surprisingly good opportunities for outdoor recreation nearby.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) Some daytime retail traffic and occasional road noise, although nothing terribly disruptive; (2) No RV hookups, dump station or dedicated overnight camping facilities; (3) Parking areas closest to the store can become crowded during business hours; (4) Limited greenery and little of the scenery you'd expect from a traditional campground; and (5) While the overnight experience was excellent, this is still a commercial parking lot rather than a destination for an extended stay.

      Happy Overnighting!

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

Atsion Family Camp — Wharton State Forest

      Pine Barrens New Jersey

This campground is part of the Wharton State Forest and has several campgrounds in the area. Great wooded sites right on a lake. Pretty good separation between sites with good tree separation between sites. Some road noise not overly affecting site.

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

      Tohickon Family Campground

      Simple, peaceful FHU

We stayed just a couple nights here on our way north. The camp host was helpful before our stay and during check-in. Our site was pretty isolated from the others, so it was very quiet (no complaints here). There is a decent mix of sunny sites by the river and shady sites under the trees. The weather was perfect mid September. There wasn't anything spectacular for me, but it was a good experience and it was a nice taste of fall PA scenery. Beware that the roads are tight for a big rig. Side note, it did seem like most campers lived there.

      Country Acres Campground

      Excellent But.

The campground is in excellent condition. The facilities are top notch. The excellence and care of the campground is evident. The 4 stars is only due to the road noise and many of the sites are on top of each other. You feel like your neighbor is at your camp fire.

      Tohickon Valley County Park

      First time camping

As far as experience it was good. The main issue was the campsite where we were was uneven and caused many of the sleeping arrangements that we had to be not level. This seems to be a specific issue to the group campsite number two as when we went inwards it seemed like everything else was much better.

      Lums Pond State Park Campground

      Lums Pond campground

First time at this campground really like it a lot will be returning. The bathrooms are always clean. The grounds are always kept up. Just a really nice place to stay. Most of the sites have some kind of shade.

    Guide to Oaks

Campgrounds near Oaks, Pennsylvania offer a mix of rural countryside settings and convenient suburban locations within a 30-mile radius. The area's rolling terrain features elevations ranging from 100 to 500 feet above sea level, with mild summers averaging 85°F and winters that can drop below freezing. Most camping facilities in the region remain open from April through October, though some RV parks provide year-round service.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Deep Creek Campground at Green Lane Park provides access to a 97-acre lake where visitors can fish for bass, catfish, and sunfish. "Phenomenal disc golf course, hiking, and fishing," notes Benjamin C. about the recreational options at this county-managed park.

Pool swimming: Lake-In-Wood Campground features both indoor and outdoor swimming pools that remain open during peak season. According to Olivia M., "We didn't go in the pool but the campground is walkable, I was able to go running, there are things for kids to do, some animals to go visit on our walks, obviously a lake."

Live entertainment: Spring Gulch Resort Campground schedules weekend activities including concerts and performances throughout their operating season. As Dawn T. mentions, "This campground was very nice. They had a live band one evening. Activities though the day were fun."

Outdoor recreation: Many RV campgrounds near Oaks offer on-site recreational facilities including miniature golf, fishing ponds, and sports fields. "Lots of sports gear available for free to use within park, has to be returned by 5 when main office closes. Mini golf was fun but need to be regreened," shares Beth B. about Spring Gulch's amenities.

    What campers like

Spacious premium sites: Campers appreciate the larger sites available at select RV parks. Steve R. notes about Spring Gulch Resort Campground, "Very well kept camp ground. The Prime Sites are very spacious."

Clean facilities: Thousand Trails Circle M earns praise for its maintenance and cleanliness. "Super clean and nice people! We enjoyed everything and the people were friendly. Worth the trip!" reports Nathan S.

Riverside locations: Some campgrounds offer sites along waterways, providing additional recreational opportunities. Karla R. describes Circle M's setting: "The campground sits in the center of a horseshoe curve of the river, bring tubes and kayaks! We didn't know but went and bought a tube and spent the day on the river!"

Heated amenities: Stonybrook RV Resort provides comfort regardless of season. "Shower/bathrooms are the best I've ever seen," says Jamie S., while another camper notes, "Their pool looked very nice although we did not use it."

    What you should know

Site conditions vary: Depending on recent weather, some campground areas may experience drainage issues. At Robin Hill Campground, one camper reported, "Sites are swampy if they've had rain! Took us over two hours to disconnect because of mushy, muddy site!"

Noise considerations: Some parks have nearby industrial operations. Jen R. noted about Lake-In-Wood, "There is a quarry close by so you could hear the trucks beeping and the noise from there but that was the only negative thing."

Weekend vs. weekday experiences: Activity schedules often concentrate on weekends. At Stonybrook RV Resort, one visitor observed, "Beyond the pool there wasn't much to do. Although, this might be due to the fact we visited during the week instead of the weekend where it seems they have a lot of events."

Privacy levels: Campgrounds vary in site separation and privacy. At Deep Creek Campground, Katrina Z. mentions, "The campgrounds are clean but the sites are way too close together and there is not any privacy."

    Tips for camping with families

Scheduled activities: Appalachian Camping Resort offers extensive programming for various age groups. "The campground had numerous activities set up all throughout the day and there was something for everyone. I find that a lot of campground activities tend to be centered around small children and with my kids being 13 and 12, they're usually left out of the fun," shares Melissa Y.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds provide play equipment for children. Tracy O. notes simply that Appalachian offers "Great sites. Family friendly. Lots for the kids to do."

Pool hours: Check operating times for swimming facilities, as they may vary by season and day of week. At Spring Gulch, Beth B. observed, "Staff was nice but not enough staffing to keep amenities like pool open after 5 during the week."

Animal interactions: Some campgrounds feature farm animals that children can observe. "There are things for kids to do, some animals to go visit on our walks," mentions one Lake-In-Wood camper, while Jen R. notes about Spring Gulch, "Goats to pet and watch."

    Tips from RVers

Tight navigation: Approach some RV parks with caution, especially with larger rigs. Matt S. notes about Stonybrook, "The entrance made for a challenging entry up a steep grade, narrow roadway, and sharp turn in. I made it without problems, but it wasn't easy in a 45' motorhome towing a Jeep."

Site levelness: Site conditions can impact setup time and comfort. At Village Scene Park, one RVer notes, "Sites are narrow and can feel cramped, so don't expect big pull-throughs."

Seasonal differences: Many RV campgrounds near Oaks operate seasonally, with reduced amenities during shoulder seasons. Jamie S. mentions about Stonybrook, "We stayed here during the winter January-February no activities going on. It does offer beautiful views especially covered in snow."

Hookup quality: Electrical service varies between campgrounds and can impact comfort during peak weather conditions. One camper at Robin Hill noted, "In addition to the daily rate, which is quite high for what you're getting, everything is extra. There is an extra fee every day as a resort fee."
