Beach camping

This is a very cool spot. Many beach camping areas at Lake McConaughey. Some people have pulled their trailers within feet of the water to make for some great camping.

$45 for 5 hours of sleep next to the loudest highway

We were absolutely desperate to find a spot late last night so we figured we could trust a KOA to stop at in Nebraska. We’ve stayed at numerous other KOAs where they were conveniently/inconveniently next to the highway. Usually happy that it’s a close drive to get back on the highway but if you’re…

Quiet place to stay at Big Mac

Stayed one night on the Big Lake and one night at the small lake. Both are very good, just more quiet and less traffic at Lake Ogallala. Very nice camp sites and good fishing.

Hidden oasis

After miles of Nebraskan grasslands, this hidden gem appears as a mirage at first. An enormous lake surrounded by white sand beaches offers a tropical sensation. Nice facilities and cheap camping! High winds are likely, but would be ideal during summer months!

White sandy beaches

It was really early in the season, mid April, and too cold (snow) for most, so the campground was empty. The madern bathhouse wasn't open yet, but pit toilets were available. Showers are by tokens (aka paid ). Everything was clean. Sites could have been more level, but they are doable. …

Lakefront beauty

Mid April, we were one of a handful of campers. We had our pick of sites at Lake Ogallala located at the base of the dam. We selected 38. Due to the high winds and cold, we weren't able to kayak/SUP as planned, but it would be a good place. Also, great places on the other side of the dam. The…

White Sandy Beaches

The campground is open all year, but the restroom isn't. The sites are not level but definitely doable. Not a lot of shade in the center of the loop. Most of the Lakefront sites do. There is a great playground. Showers are by token. Beautiful white sandy beaches close by. In Lake McConaughy…

A rest stop with no bathrooms

Nice to have a spot along I-80 to sleep for the night. Wouldn’t recommend much more than that. Its a parking lot right off the interstate. The dirt road is easy to drive, goes for about 5 miles on the side of the interstate. Then you arrive at the parking lot and the interstate is less than 50…

Beautiful and convenient

We love camping at lake Mac and have been there a few times. Van’s Lakeview is the best for multiple reasons. The campground is mostly dirt, not a ton of grass but the lake access is unbeatable. Facilities are clean and well appointed, the general store has all you need including gas, and the…

Summer windstorms

Stayed here on my cross country drive. Real calm at dusk on this reservoir, it picked up real fast into a certified windstorm by 2AM when I felt like my tent was about to be blown away into oblivion. LOTS of RVs.

So many fish

We had a blast fishing ogala. Cool town and so many fish. Clean camping spaces and well set up. We will be back.

Quiet Little Spot

I drove beyond the golf course campground & found a spot next to the lake that had a fire ring. The road & plant noise did not bother me. Great spot for a quick overnight stay.

Nice stopover

Tent camped on the shore of the reservoir, this was a nice enough spot although a little noisy from the road and power station across the reservoir.

Beautiful place...can be a little smelly

Great sites right on a small peaceful lake. Just know if the wind changes you might get a little smelly at the campsites. Also look at beach camping up at the big lake above the dam. We didn't realize that was there until we drove in so FYI.

1 night stand

We stayed at the Little Thunder campground for 1 night while passing through Nebraska. Wow! The views were wonderful. We had to pay $8 for an entry fee into the park. Camping fees were paid at the campground using an envelope and a drop box. They offered full hookup sites 1-8 for $37/night and…
