A dirt road cuts directly through this municipal campground in O'Neill, serving as both campground access and a local shortcut that generates regular vehicle traffic and dust clouds throughout the day. Carney Park sits adjacent to a small pond and features approximately 16 sites with electric and water hookups accommodating RVs up to 40 feet, plus tent camping areas.

The campground operates on a self-serve payment system using envelopes, with stays up to three days requiring no check-in at city offices. Sites include concrete pads, picnic tables, and mature trees for shade. Chris C. notes the sites are "very clean and sites are level" with "clean showers and restroom." The bathhouse provides flush toilets and showers, though seasonal availability varies.

Road construction periodically affects access routes into town, creating one-way traffic sections. Train tracks run close enough that locomotive noise occurs frequently throughout both day and night hours. The campground connects to other parts of O'Neill, making it convenient for accessing local restaurants and services on foot.

Walking paths loop around the rodeo arena, between baseball fields, and around the small pond for evening or morning exercise. Police patrol the area regularly, and the three-day limit keeps turnover steady among travelers passing through on longer routes.

Many campers appreciated the clean, level sites and reliable hookups at reasonable rates. Guests commonly noted quiet nights, though train noise and construction activity occur during daytime hours.

The town's shortcut.

I wrote my previous review shortly after arriving here at Carney Park in O'Neill. I've noticed something after being here a few hours. This campground has a dirt road running through it, like many campgrounds. But this one is a shortcut many people use, kicking up LOTS OF DUST. Not one of the dozens of vehicles that have come through here in the last few hours has used this park in any way except to pass through it.

End of March, nobody else here.

Google maps brought me in the opposite end of the campground from where the sign and pay box is. Fee is $20/night. The campground is completely empty, except for me. I'm parked on a concrete pad, which is quite level. The water is turned off, the showers are locked up, but the electricity is on. The season hasn't started yet, is my guess.

Very nice overnite spot

Water and electric with pad and picnic tables and trees for $20! Also some tent sites. Nice place for an evening or morning walk to stretch legs around rodeo arena, between baseball fields and then around and small pond. Self serve payment envelopes. A handful of other campers around the CG that has about 16 (?) sites

Early Spring Camping

Quit park, full electric pad, and water. The bathrooms and shower were not open yet. Locked my keys in the truck. The O’Neill Police opened my truck, within 20 minutes. I noticed they also patrolled the area.

Great One Night Stay

We had a great one night stay when we were passing through O’Neil on our way to South Dakota. Cute town, ok bath house and a cute play park with swings, etc. Quiet at night. The road into the campground was a little busy during the day due to the construction on the main road into town. The campground road connects to other parts of town. Would stay here again but only for one night probably. It was great having electric and water hookup.

Small quiet city campsite with concrete pad. Bathrooms needed cleaning

One night stay as driving home.  Flush toilet with W/E hookup. They are doing road construction and they have road completely torn up and one way section of road into campground.  Quiet for one night. We ate dinner and then breakfast in city as convenient.  Nice small campground.
