Trout fishing, hiking, and streamside camping draw visitors to Long Pine State Rec Area in north-central Nebraska, where Keller Park State Rec Area sits about nine miles north for those building out a longer itinerary in the region. The campground runs along a clear stream that winds between hills, and sites can be positioned close to the water or set back from it depending on camper preference. Tall trees shade much of the area. Robins, wrens, cardinals, and the occasional duck have been spotted along the water's edge.
Summer weekends bring the biggest crowds, particularly when warm weather draws locals out for tubing on the stream. The campground otherwise sees light use, and off-season visits frequently mean having the place to yourself. RV campers should know the site drives are angled and sloped in ways that make maneuvering larger rigs genuinely difficult, though electric hookups are available for those who work through the setup. Ainsworth East City Park and Bassett Municipal Park are nearby alternatives if hookup sites here are full.
"Right next to the water," as one camper put it, is the draw for many who return here. Jared J. notes good trout fishing from the stream alongside hikeable trails. Amenities include drinking water, toilets, picnic tables, and cell service. Reservations are available, and booking ahead makes sense for summer holiday weekends when tubing traffic peaks.
Description
Long Pine offers Basic camping for $15/night. It has eight camping pads without electricity, as well as 21 non-pad Basic sites without electricity. Camping at Long Pine SRA is all first-come, first-served and campers register their nightly camping fees in a raised, locked box called an Iron Ranger. Stays are limited to 14 consecutive days in a 30 day period. Self-service envelopes are provided at each Iron Ranger station. Check or cash only. Iron Rangers are generally located near the park entrance or in the campground area. On-site camping informational signs are provided to help guide campers with the self-registration process.
