Best Campgrounds near York, NE

Camping near York, Nebraska encompasses a mix of established RV parks, family-friendly campgrounds, and more primitive recreation areas along the I-80 corridor. The region features several well-maintained facilities including Double Nickel Campground in Waco, Prairie Oasis Campground in Henderson, and York Kampground within city limits. These locations provide convenient access for travelers along Interstate 80, with most sites situated within 20 miles of York. Many campgrounds in the area offer recreational amenities like swimming pools, mini-golf, and playgrounds, making them suitable for family trips. According to visitors, Double Nickel Campground provides "lots to do" with amenities including "a swimming pool, mini golf course, and sites with great trees."

Most campgrounds in the York area operate seasonally from April through October, with a few extending into November. Summer temperatures can be hot, with persistent winds common throughout the region. Severe weather, including thunderstorms, can develop quickly during spring and summer months, making weather awareness important for campers. Access to most established campgrounds is straightforward via paved roads, though some recreation areas like Smith Creek require travel on gravel country roads that can become muddy after rain. Nebraska's clay soil becomes "very slippery, sticky and heavy" when wet, potentially creating challenging conditions for vehicles without four-wheel drive.

The camping options around York cater primarily to RV travelers, with most established sites offering full hookups including water, electric (30/50 amp), and sewer connections. Many campgrounds provide amenities specifically for interstate travelers, including pull-through sites for large rigs and reliable Wi-Fi. Tent camping is available at most locations but is secondary to RV accommodations. Highway noise is noticeable at many campgrounds due to their proximity to I-80, though this is offset by convenience for travelers. Streeter Park Campground in nearby Aurora offers a particularly good value with some reviewers noting it provides "free electricity and water" with a dump station nearby, making it popular for overnight stays while crossing Nebraska.

    Double Nickel Campground

    Amazing

Very friendly & helpful lady, guided Us to Our site and spotted Us on it. That was after She gave Us a free upgrade, discount, and took several of Our calls. After having a really terrible day She gave a breath of encouragement back into Us. It looked like all the sites were pull through's, had fire pit (saw her delivering wood), never saw this before (each site has a porch swing). It is clean and taken care of nicely. It is most definitely a place to stay at.

    Streeter Park Campground

    Very nice for free!

Nicest free campground with electric and a dump station I've ever been to. We'll actually the only one so far. Train was close by but that was ok. Mosquitoes the size of ravens but we were in the camper the whole time. It was a really cute town and a coffee shop close by for your morning fix. Definitely worth the stop.

    Red Cedar Lake

    Peaceful Getaway with Beautiful Views

Red Cedar Lake is a hidden gem if you’re looking for quiet, simple camping. The scenery is beautiful, with open skies and plenty of wildlife around. It’s free camping, so amenities are limited—bring your own supplies and expect rustic conditions. The fishing was great, and the sunsets over the water were stunning. Perfect spot if you want to unplug, relax, and enjoy nature close to the road.https://kukasoittia.fi/

George H Clayton Campground (Hall County Park)

Great overnight grassy & shady park stop, very quiet for location

Super nice shady and green county park, camping area has wide-spaced level concrete pads with power, no water or sewer at pads, water fill at entrance to camping area of park, nice RV dump at exit. Very quiet considering busy road nearby. Verizon 2-3 bars. Maybe 20 spots, about 1/2 occupied on a Monday in late September.

    York Kampground

    Quick overnight stay

This campground was perfect for what we needed. Which was a place to rest on a longer journey. The host was super helpful and friendly when we needed to switch spots and answer some questions. The bathhouse was clean and the neighbors were kind and respectful. Very close to fast food and gas stations! Would definitely stay again.

    Great overnighter!

Small campground great for an overnight stop. Some nice hiking trails near the Platte River, bird watching hut to hike out to and small ponds for fishing. Nice clean sites. Small playground.

    Yankee hill wildlife management area

    Good over night spot

Situated in the middle of corn fields. The WMA has a large marshy, stagnant pond, so bring mosquito repellent. The parking area is clean. There is a dumpster and vault toilet. I didnt inspect it, I'll leave that up to you. No potable water, but Lincoln Nebraska is only 17 miles away.
