Best Campgrounds near Nixa, MO

Camping options around Nixa, Missouri include multiple established campgrounds ranging from full-service RV parks to primitive tent sites. The Springfield Route 66 KOA provides cabins and glamping accommodations approximately 15 miles northwest of Nixa, while Busiek State Forest offers more rustic camping experiences about 10 miles south. Hootentown Canoe Rental & Campground along the James River combines water recreation with camping facilities, featuring both drive-in and boat-in accessibility. Several sites also accommodate both tent and RV campers, with varying levels of hookups and amenities.

Most campgrounds in the region remain open year-round, though seasonal considerations affect water availability and ground conditions. "Busiek isn't too far off the beaten path. It has several trails and camping sites with plenty of wildlife available for viewing," noted one visitor. Some locations like Busiek require permits that must be obtained in person from the Missouri Department of Conservation office, while others operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The Lambert's Cafe RV Park in nearby Ozark provides convenient overnight accommodations for travelers but lacks amenities like picnic tables or shower facilities. Terrain in the area varies from level parking-lot style RV sites to more rugged forest settings requiring preparation for potential mud after rainfall.

Campers consistently mention the James River as a focal point for recreation in the area. Hootentown Campground receives mixed reviews, with some praising its riverside location while others note management challenges. "This campsite is laid out nicely. Our spot had electricity and was all by itself tucked in the back corner which was perfect! We were a couple minutes away from the river which made for a beautiful walk," reported one camper. For travelers seeking urban convenience, several RV parks like Ozark Highlands provide easy access to shopping and dining. Many visitors appreciate the quiet atmosphere at these locations despite their proximity to commercial areas. The region's camping options balance natural settings with practical amenities, though availability can be limited during peak summer weekends, especially at water-adjacent sites.

    Rustic Trails RV Park

Clean, hot shower but little else

One shower and one bathroom working at the back of the campground. There's more up at the house but I didn't use those facilities. I was less than impressed with this campground. Especially for the price. It looks as though most campers actually live there and they got the shaded spots with plenty of trees. I was directed towards the back which is all gravel and not much else. Good for a quick stay over but there's nicer places close by for half the price.

    Table Rock State Park Campground

    Great spot!

We had the perfect little spot for our tent camping weekend. It is a campground so you do have neighbors but the sites were spread out and didn’t feel cramped. There was ample room for our tent, the fire ring, our hammock set up and the picnic table. Restrooms were the cleanest i’ve ever seen. I will definitely be back!

    B Berry Farms & Co.

    Peaceful sleeping

Driving through Missouri needed a quiet place to stay. We stayed at Honey Berry Hideout, it has metal fire ring and grill. The owners were very friendly , informed us amenities , they have coffee pot , small stove to use in a barn in walking distance, bathrooms and showers for small fees. Family friendly with large area for kids to play.

    Pine Hollow 1045 Dispersed Camping

    Beautiful remote primitive campsite

Excellent little campsite great for a couple tents at most we camped using a rooftop tent and it was a great spot. Very quite very clean unlike some other sites in the area. There is a second site just down the little pull off but it’s not level so would be a last resort. Don’t recommend bringing anything to large down the road camper van would be fine but would be difficult with a full size rig or towing anything much larger than a pop up. Enjoy!!

    Branson Lakeside RV Park

    Nice campground close to everything

This is a nice campground. Our site was a concrete pad that was perfectly level. The park is kept very clean, nice bathrooms, and helpful staff. They allowed us to check-in 3 hours early, and we were extremely grateful. Branson Landing is only 5 min away.

    Indian Point

    Great location for Table Rock

Nice and clean. Close to water slide and Silver Dollar City. The sites are small and difficult to back in though.

    Cape Fair

    Very nice place

This is a very nice place. The sites are fairly close together but staggered so it is much better. Electric and water in the sites. Bathrooms and showers are located close by and are very clean. There are sites closer to the lake but I chose one at a higher elevation as there were flood warnings out last night as it rained a lot over this entire area of Missouri. Nice clean picnic tables and the fire rings are the good style that you do not need tons of wood to be able to cook. Some have the grill grate so high up that even at the lowest setting you still need a lot of wood to build a fire large enough to reach that high.

    Indian Point

    Very peaceful and beautiful

Great place to stay which is the norm for Army Corp of Engineers locations. Near Silver Dollar City. Our sites were not shaded but most others were. We saw lots of squirrels, a chipmunk and a few deer. The marina nearby had a nice Floating Cafe.
