    Shady Beach Camp & Canoe

Easy to plan a trip and relax once you arrive

Once arriving the owners/ staff were friendly and helpful. The convenience shop had everything you could possibly forget at home and plus! They have thought of everything you might need while camping. Kayaking/ Canoeing is so laid back , there was absolutely nothing to fuss over. Bonus was the float ended right at the camp site. How can that be topped!

Will be returning hopefully for many years.

    Four Oaks RV Park

Goof Transit camping with great staff

Super helpful staff for late check-ins. It is a good RV campsite when you are on the move and need a place to stay near the the high way (a bit noisy with traffic) and traveling with a pet. They have a place for dogs to play.

    Ballard's Campground

    Stay away

After reviewing the camp map, I found C1 shown as a pull thru site available for the week we would be staying. Easy peasy. Until 2 days before we are set to show up, I get an email and we have been moved to a back in site. When ask I was told pull thru sites are for are monthly renters. So why did your reservation system allow me to rent for a week? Then they tell me C1 isn't a pull thru site after all, although the map outside the store shows it as pull thru, great then I shouldn't have been moved give me C1. It is already filled. So a site I reserved was given to someone else and I never got an honest answer as to why. During the conversation the staff was rude and condescending. The camp store is not stocked well. The sites are close together and not level at all. The bath house smelled moldy. The worst campground we have ever stayed out.

    Big Red Barn RV Park

    Just passing through

We were pulling our camper on our way to Nebraska and needed somewhere to stay the night. Tried booking online but were unsuccessful. Called, got a spot. Upon setting up, went to the shower house for a shower (they DO NOT provide linens as another review stated) Shower house was newly remodeled although the water pressure wasn’t all that good. Grounds were nice and well manicured.

    Sunset Mountain

Coolest place, great hosts & eclectic people

This is a great way to enjoy naturalism in a family friendly, smaller camp. The owners, James and Amy are amazing at making you feel at home and a beautiful and clean camp.
This is an adults only campground with family friendly expectations. Fig leaves are optional in all areas, including pools and hot tub. We have visited several times, made friends with many and looking forward to more visits.

    Pea Ridge Bike Camp

    Excellent primitive camping

If you’re in the area for mountain biking and want more privacy and space than the other nearby campgrounds this place is an excellent option. The owner Damon is a really nice helpful and accommodating guy and his place is complete for primitive camping: grassy and (some) shady sites, fire pits (free firewood), very clean porta potty toilets and nice outdoor showers (hot water), water, outlets to charge devices, and good common areas loaded with helpful biking trail info. This place has lots of unique character, for example a renovated school bus used as a common area in case of inclement weather and even a complete bike cleaning station. One notable aspect: it is about a 10-15 min drive to the trails. If you’re a tent, car/van, or tear drop trailer camper, I highly recommend this place!

What to do

Disc golf course: Neosho City Campground provides access to an extensive disc golf course within the park grounds. "There is an extensive disc golf course within this park," explains reviewer B H., adding that the campground is "across the street from a lengthy park with walking trails and a couple playgrounds as well as an active creek which advertises trout fishing."

What campers like

Affordability: Many campsites offer reasonable rates compared to other regions. At Riverside Park in nearby Baxter Springs, Kansas, Annie C. notes, "it's $5 a night for tents and $10 for RVs, which are separated from each other." Similarly, Neosho City Campground offers budget-friendly rates: "This 10 spot campground has water and electric for $12 per night," according to B H.

Shaded sites: Trees provide welcome relief during hot Missouri summers. At Big Red Barn RV Park, Kim B. appreciates the "long wide sites that have grass, patios and picnic tables" and notes they're "very pet friendly." Other reviewers mention the "plenty of large trees and green grass."

Swimming options: Some campgrounds offer swimming amenities. Tamisha S. describes Camp Mi Casa's pool: "The swimming pool is a little small but my kids love it! My 2 year old was able to learn to swim better in it."

Peaceful settings: Despite highway proximity, many campgrounds maintain quiet environments. Jeff B. calls Big Red Barn "a great, quiet place" and mentions they "could've stayed another day because it's so quiet." Similarly, at Downstream RV Park, Jennifer M. found it "clean, safe, great for an overnight."

What you should know

Campground registration procedures: Some campgrounds have specific check-in processes. At Neosho City Campground, "registration to stay here has to be done at city hall so if you are planning to arrive in town after city hall closes or on the weekend you may be unable to stay here as there is no drop box for site payment," cautions reviewer B H.
