Branson Treehouse Cabin & RV Park

    Quiet, Centrally Located, Large Sites

We really enjoyed our stay here! It was the week after Labor Day and was mostly vacant, making for a quiet stay. Love the amenities for kids! The only reason I give 4 stars is the dog policy— it’s very strict, and there isn’t a dog park type area to let pets off leash to play & get energy out.

    Cooper Creek Resort

    Loved our time

Location is easy to find. Love being next to the water! Heard there is a dog park coming this summer. Great place to go if u want to vacation with someone that doesn't have a camper because of the cabins on property. we will be back.

Sugar Camp Lookout Tower Dispersed Area

    Peaceful Retreat

My husband and I rented our first camper van to see if short trips meant to create memories are do-able in a camper van, for us. 1000% yes.

This was our first experience and got exactly what was described. The road was bumpy but we had zero problems with our 4x4 rig.

Sunsets and sunrises were stunning!!! Great fall retreat. We even met a stray cat we wish we could have taken home with us. Poor thing is starving. She will come if calls and purrs when petted. We named her “Sugar” after the location.

There seems to be a private off-road recreation area that provided moderate traffic. We were kind of tucked back a bit from the road and it didn’t bother us.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great Service But Smaller Sites

Of all the KOAs I have visited I was very eager to check out this one.  Close to Springfield and not to far from the turn off to Wilson Creek Battlefield this one just kinda made sense for a visit.

When I ventured to check it out I quickly noticed that the site spacing was not the best when it came to the RVs, it looked claustrophobic.   When it came to the tent sites I felt a bit more like I could breathe and stretch out.   Kind of strange that this was the case as usually the RV section at a KOA is more accommodating, in my own personal experiences.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the overall amenities were pretty inclusive.   Some of course obvious upgrades coming at additional charges while others were standard.

In true KOA fashion there is WIFI, which I personally always welcome because I work remotely and sometimes do not have the best of signal.    Additionally they had standard features such as a dog park area, playground for the kiddos and a pool, although the pool is not open year round like some.

A few things that were a bit less common however, they had a pet play room which was pretty cool and though I don't travel with my pets found it to be a very friendly touch.    I also noticed that in addition to snacks you could pick up in the store they also had pizza during certain times if you were not wanting to use your own kitchen or the common space camp kitchens.

I was pretty impressed overall but with all the good there were those claustrophobic rv sites I just couldn't get past and the pricing of a KOA always hurts the pockets a bit more even with them being nice and the common kitchen area I was attempting to use and had a few issues, this could have been just when I was visiting so I don't want to completely hold that against them but it was having issued.

    TIPS:

    * Visit Wilson's Creek Battlefield to explore, learn and hike.  When you come to this KOA it obviously does not have any hiking, but the battlefield offers a lengthy system of trails .* Bass Pro's home is Springfield, MO so you will not only find the largest Bass Pro there but also a unique museum of all animals which is quite spectacular.

    Branson Lakeside RV Park

Great RV park right on the river

Great atmosphere and sooo close to the Branson landing for dinner/shopping but also right on the river for a great day on the boat. Just a bit down river from Lily’s Landing (bait shop and a fun stop in for the kids to grab a snack). Walking distance to a park with play ground and two separate dog park areas (one fenced one open). Definitely an “RV PARK” nothing secluded about it if that’s what you’re looking for... very close to neighboring site and even in off season it was packed full the weekend we went. The sites along the river side had great big fire pits too.

    Springfield - Route 66 KOA

    Great place to stay

My wife and our children stayed here in the summer while we traveled for work and we were extremely pleased with both the grounds and the staff. They have great amenities and clean facilities as well as washers and dryers. They were so accommodating. The only drawback is a train close by. They have a small gated dog park and I huge open field. They have a seasonal swimming pool, kids playground, game room and few more things to keep the kids busy. Good WiFi and a shop that sells/makes/delivers pizza to your campsite. We will be visiting again in the future definitely.

    Hide-A-Way Campground & RV Retreat

    Rude, confrontational, overgrown, and trashy

One of the worst parks in Branson. Area is completely overgrown, none of the sites are anywhere near level, and the facilities are in terrible shape. The manager is extremely rude, confrontational, and is almost never on the property. Our first day there I witnessed her in a yelling match with someone, she flicked them off as they left then proceeded to tell me to call the police if I see them again. She also warned us of a homeless camp only a few hundred feet behind the park, so I wouldn’t leave anything out you don’t want stolen. It’s not close to anything other than the touristy things, and it’s absolutely filled with ticks. The trails behind the park are filled with trash and debris, dog park is the smallest one I’ve ever seen. Work Campers beware. I originally came to the park to work, I received absolutely no training, and was told to come in and“play” with their booking software to learn. The manager spoke to me incredibly rudely and as if she was scolding a child. She was incapable of even giving me a time to come in and show me how the system worked. I was given a written list of job responsibilities, and was immediately bombarded with a plethora of things I have no experience doing that were not listed in the job description. I was subsequently fired before my official start date and the only reason given was I was not a good fit. My partner was also fired as he was there working Maintenence for the same exact reason. By far the most incompetent, rude, and confrontational manager I have ever worked for.

Guide to Nixa

Springfield's outskirts offer several dog friendly campgrounds near Nixa with varied terrain and access points. The region sits within Missouri's Ozark Plateau, with elevations ranging from 1,100 to 1,500 feet and humid continental climate patterns that create distinct seasonal camping conditions. Most pet-friendly sites in the area experience heavy weekend use during summer months when water levels are optimal for canine swimming activities.

What to do

Trail hiking with dogs: Cobb Ridge campground has nearly 80 miles of interconnected trails through forested areas. "Absolutely beautiful hiking trails and amazing off grid camping for family. Just make sure to bring the bug spray and tikis bc there are tons of bugs," notes one Cobb Ridge visitor.

River swimming access: The James River provides excellent swimming spots for dogs at Hootentown Canoe Rental & Campground. "This campsite is laid out nicely. Our spot had electricity and was all by itself tucked in the back corner which was perfect! We were a cpl min away from the River which made for a beautiful walk!" reports a camper.

Wildlife observation: Early mornings offer prime wildlife viewing with leashed pets. "The scenery is so breathtaking and you never want to leave!" mentions a visitor at Busiek, where properly controlled dogs can accompany owners on wildlife observation walks.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers consistently mention bathroom quality at Springfield - Route 66 KOA. "This KOA is clean with wonderful parks and a nice pool. It was a great place to stay while driving to our destination," notes one reviewer.

Food delivery options: Several campgrounds offer unusual amenities for those camping with pets. "One of the best KOA's I've stayed! They even delivered pizza right to our site. Super easy check in and the most gracious hosts," shares a satisfied customer.

Quiet camping spots: Despite proximity to transportation routes, many sites offer peaceful environments. "The staff was friendly and the camp was clean," writes a visitor about Springfield Route 66 KOA, noting its well-maintained grounds despite occasional train noise.

What you should know

Permit requirements: Busiek requires advance planning for overnight stays with pets. "Camping is by permit only, and permits can not be obtained online or by phone, you must go in person to the Missouri Department of Conservation office," warns a local resident.

Weather considerations: Rainy conditions affect terrain accessibility with animals. "If it's been raining a lot it does tend to get muddy, we don't have 4WD and got stuck, luckily some others there did and helped us out," cautions a Hootentown visitor.

Site organization concerns: Some locations have limited supervision of site assignments. "We arrived having booked a reservation online for a campsite nearly a week prior to the date, but were told 'good luck finding your site, someone else is probably already there' by the girl at check-in," reports one disappointed camper.

Tips for camping with families

Pet play facilities: Cooks RV Motor Park offers good spaces for dogs and children. "The park is adjacent to a large field where my dog was able to run to her heart's content, which was very welcome after being in other campgrounds where I had to keep her on a leash at all times," shares a visitor.

Noise considerations: Train tracks near some campgrounds may disturb light sleepers and sensitive pets. "The train tracks are right next to the campground. Nice place to stay," notes a KOA visitor, suggesting families prepare for occasional noise disruptions.

Age restrictions: Some pet-friendly sites have specific policies about minors. "VERY STRICT camping rules when camping with minors... Even with my father present," reports a Hootentown camper, indicating families should verify age policies before booking.

Tips from RVers

RV site spacing: Timbercrest Park provides economical options for RVers with pets. "Affordable and right on edge of town," notes a visitor about this convenient location for accessing urban amenities while maintaining a home base for pets.

Short-term stopover options: Multiple sites offer quick, convenient overnight accommodations. "Great spot to stop for a night while traveling. Basically just a parking lot behind Lambert's Cafe, but with full hookups for $30. Self serve station for registering makes it easy," reports a Lambert's Cafe RV Park visitor.

Leveling considerations: Finding level sites impacts ease of setup with animals. "It's always a nice feeling to pull in and set up with minimal effort," mentions a camper about site preparation, noting the convenience of well-designed spots when managing pets during arrival.
