Couple miles north of dexter, on gravel, next to public lake, hunting reserve. Would serve as overnight, or for construction worker's site. I scouted as not far from home, decided not worth effort to try out.
Reserved electric unit 090 for the weekend, which had a scenic corn field for a backdrop - this is Iowa! Paved roads, level gravel sites, wide & mowed trails, clean pit toilets and a layout that isnāt too cramped. The pond has multiple shoreline fishing spots with picnic tables and a cleaning station. Basic playground in front of the beach which is a short drive or a ~1 mile trail walk away.
I've hiked in Pammel before, and LOVE the area. We drive by the campground on our way down to the family farm on the regular, but staying in the grounds overnight was a whole different experience! We stayed with friends on sites 8 and 9 this past weekend. The concrete pads were awesome for leveling our popups, the sites were VERY clean, the bathrooms were immaculate and the firewood was a gem at $10 for a wagon full! Great hosts, great neighbors. Would absolutely stay again!
We been to Viking Lake a few times over the years. And it has been cool to see this place evolve over time. They did drain this lake a few years back. But this little place has a lot to offer for campers. There trails, fishing, and kayaking. There is also a swimming area and beach and clean barhrooms. I have no problem with staying at place anytime.
Not overly impressed with this park. Sites were crammed together, not well maintained, and a lot of partying until 3am every night from young campers. Definitely seemed like a teenage hangout spot, without any redeeming qualities to make it worth the noise issues. The drive in was almost worth the trip, as the countryside is beautiful!
Nice level sites, fairly Large, great fire pit With multiple grilling options. Beautiful pond and nice and quiet.
Very Nice sites. Many shaded. Only one shower room for campground, a drive from most sites. Pit toilets for rest of sites. Nice lake.
An oasis of solitude. The park is somewhat small but laid out nicely. I paid extra for an electric site to be close to the lake. It is 9 or so miles north of the highway so it was actually quiet. There were zero bugs to deal with. Amazing!!! And no raccoons. I stayed one night, a Thursday, so I donāt know if it gets bad on a weekend. There were lots of locals there using it like a big backyard. The lake isnāt big but big enough to be useful.
A great spot for camping and RVing. Super friendly staff and great amenities. Only downside was there were no bathrooms.
First time visiting this park and will be returning! Pretty spacious between sites. Trails were great and our kids loved swimming in the lake.
