Nice area but no water anywhere

When there is no running water at cites, I like to filter my own.

There’s no water areas like the cam grounds west to this along the river, so bring plenty of extra liquids especially when it’s hot.

As an avid star gazer, I found the levels of light pollution to be low. Not quite as good as the…

We had the place to ourselves!

The reservoir was pretty low but the camp site was incredible #48. We had water and electric. Cool little guided nature trail for an evening walk with out little one to learn about animal tracks

Three Rivers Resort in Idaho

So, I’m not sure why “resort” is in the title, this certainly not a resort in the traditional sense. But, this is a great place to stop if headed up the Lochsa River and has something for everyone.

The “resort” has riverfront cabins, double occupancy motel rooms, A frame cabins, RV spots with…

Beautiful Camping!

This is a backpacking trail. The first half mile is difficult but then the trail levels out and is easy for many miles. There’s free dispersed camping sites starting after 4.5 miles down the trail. There was wood on site when we went in July 2020. It is possible to get to the water (if you have a…

Wilderness camp with a hot springs soak

If a backpacking trip in to a wilderness area with a hot springs next to your campsite sounds like the perfect trip, then Stanley Hot Springs is for you.  Stanley Hot Springs located in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is just under a 5 mile hike from the trail head located in the Wilderness…

Pricey and not very private

Decent campground, but I likely wouldn’t stay there again. $20 per night, hookups are available and there were most RVers there. The spaces were all very close together so there wasn’t much privacy. Bathrooms seemed reasonably clean and there was fresh water spigots available. I got there on a…

Things change

We used to pull horse trailers in there all the time - 20 years ago

We won’t be pulling anything in there again. Gained some plumbing experience due to large “pot holes” that can swallow trailer tires whole.

Forest service has forgotten about the road and let it fall into dismal shape. Would be…

Great Views

You can car camp here at the end of the road before you enter the Gospel Hump Wilderness. If you cross the Wind River Bridge, there are some great hiking opportunities up into the surrounding mountains. There used to be an actual campground here, but much of it has grown up. There are still…

Waterfront Sites

Although this campground is right on the road, it also has easy access to the reservoir where you can fish, swim, and boat. There are life jackets for use here next to the dock. Sites include a fire pit, grill, and picnic table. There is also water available and pit toilets for use. There is a…

Gorgeous site in the trees

Another private off-shoot from the Big Eddy trail, mini camp 4.8 is first come first served and a highly sought after spot. Perched a bit higher than the sites around it you’ll find some wonderful views and privacy to set up your tent at the tree edge. A nice long ramp to the water and plenty of…

Sweet little spot

This is an easy 1mi hike from Big Eddy Recreation area on the Big Eddy trail. Ok, correction, challenging out of the gate with a fairly vertical start but levels out quickly and you’re suddenly submerged in the trees and lush ferns. This spot has a long walkway out from the main trail offering tons…

Stellar views and incredible setup

So many wonderful things to say about this spot—where to begin?! Approx. 4 1/4mi from Big Eddy and 4 7/8mi from Freeman Creek, this spot sits perfectly off the Bid Eddy trail. Trees provide a bit of wind coverage though we enjoyed perfect 80s in the day and warm 50s temps in the night. Friendly…

Absolutely lovely

Views are spectacular. Little wind coverage during the day though it’s very private with quite a distance off the Big Eddy trail to get down to the waterside spot. Vaulted toilet, fire ring and a picnic table make for some comfy accommodations. Marker on trail (approximately 5 1/4mi hiking north…

One of my favorite places!

I've been coming to Elk River my whole life. If you are looking for a quiet town surrounded by forest this is the place to go. Be sure to go to the Giant Cedar Grove which has the largest cedar tree in North America. The hike to Elk Creek falls is beautiful too! There is not much to offer in town,…

Good area attractions

This is a pretty decent place to camp. There are other sites in the area that might be a little quieter and less expensive, but I would bump this site up on the list in terms of how easily it is to get to some of the attractions in the area! The giant cedars and Elk River Falls are a must stop if…
