LegendGore Creek Campground is a true gem of the National Forest Service. If you are looking for a great boondocking location that is close to great trails and breathtaking views, this just might be the place for you. The entrance to the campground is ~2 miles off of I-70 Exit 180 on Bighorn Road. Only 10 minutes from Vail Village and 25 minutes from Frisco.
We stayed in Site #8, which provided plenty of room for our 22’ travel trailer and pickup. The sites each have a large picnic table and fire ring.
Pit toilets are spread through the campground and were very clean and well maintained. The campground hosts do a great job of keeping everything tidy and looking great. They also have bundles of firewood for sale for $7 at their site just inside the entrance to the campground.
I can’t say enough about this place. It’s probably my favorite spot to camp in Colorado. I almost didn’t post this review for fear of the secret getting out.
GuideRiver Run is our favorite place to stay when visiting RMNP. We have stayed here on two occasions and will be bringing family with us this July. Great dog parks, bike trails, bowling alley, arcade, swimming pools, playgrounds and very clean laundry rooms. They also have activities planned during your stay. The RV sites are well spaced, although it is a newer campground so landscaping is young. We have also stayed in a 2 bedroom villa, but had to leave early due to wildfires. My kids are always excited to visit River Run.
RangerI’m a mountain girl! Like grab your back pack and hike in! Then we had kids and splurged on a camper... and now this place has me over here laying pool side... drink in hand, head over heels about glamping. Seriously I loved this so much. They have an amazing pool! Bowling alley, arcade, restaurant, bars (yes more than one!) they had live music, they have fishing, and dog parks, bike rentals, daily trash pick up from your campsite, firewood delivery, play grounds, golf carts... it is a little close together with out any trees of coverage BUT the pros far (FAR FAR FAR) out weigh that one con.
TravelerWe took our new camper here to get a full service hook up. We didn’t want to worry about anything except the systems in the camper. Later in the season we got a free day of we paid for two days. For a pull through it was only $67+tax per night.
Arcade, restaurant, mini bowling alley (free), playground, dog parks, pool, hiking trails both paved and unpaved, and a general store (our 25’ fresh water hose was too short. Needed about 29’ so it was nice to have a store on property.)
It is a huge place so I would recommend a mode of transportation like a bike. I have an electric skateboard which was perfect.
COVID shut the hot tubs down but they have them. One of the restaurants was closed either for COVID or that it was later in the season.
While we plan on camping mainly off the grid it was a real nice glamping getaway.

It’s a great base for hiking, mountain biking, mushroom foraging or simply relaxing and soaking in the fresh air.
Since it’s a dispersed site, there are no amenities like water or toilets, so campers need to come prepared with everything they need and pack out all trash. The dirt road leading to the camping area is manageable for most vehicles, though a higher-clearance option is recommended if conditions are wet or snowy.
One of the highlights of Robbers Roost is the proximity to Winter Park and stream access. You can explore the local trails by day and head into town for dining or entertainment in the evening. At night, the stargazing is spectacular, thanks to the minimal light pollution in the area.
If you’re comfortable with primitive camping and love the outdoors, Robbers Roost is a hidden gem worth discovering. Just be sure to practice leave-no-trace principles to help preserve the beauty of this spot. Finally beware of the busy nearby road, especially if you are traveling with off leash pets.

if you’re driving down 24 and need a spot outdoors for the night, I highly recommend it. we stayed in spot #7 which was pleasant once the sun went down. great views of the cliffs across the street and only interrupted when a vehicle passed. for a night outside it was great! just be aware that it’s bear country however we only saw a chipmunk while there and I completely get safe with my pup there too.
RangerAt Glenwood Canyon Resort you get to camp right on the Colorado River in a beautiful canyon but its definitely the most expensive tent camping I've ever paid for. Amenities are taken care of from the store at the check in station to the bar and grill that's on site. It has an awesome deck with a view of the canyon but I didn't get to enjoy it. When we checked in we were told it was pet friendly but when we went the bar tender told us our dogs weren't allowed and didn't seem happy to be there, so I had to go back to the campsite and eat and drink by myself. It's okay though because when my wife came back she said the food wasn't that great and they had no craft beer on tap. Aside from all that, the number of outdoor activities and place to see around here are endless, whitewater rafting, kayaking, skiing, mountain biking, climbing, hang gliding, disc golf, etc.......are all within a short car or bike ride and that's were all 3 stars are earned. Definitely worth it if your just passing through but there are many options around here if your staying for some time.
