We came here after failing to find a dispersed location closer to Silverthorne. It turned out to be a hidden gem with lots of secluded sites. Plus the drive in/out is super easy (apart from the final road to the campsite; that requires a 4WD vehicle, without question) - it was more-or-less the same drive time as original choice. Just without the hassle of navigating a busy one-way dirt road.
We planned a last minute trip from Denver and wanted to find a bookable campground so we had a guaranteed site (we couldn’t arrive until Saturday evening). Unsurprisingly, all campgrounds in the area were booked solid.
This is when a Dyrt Alert saved the day. They gave me a heads up 2 days prior that a site was open. 5 minutes and a $36 site fee later, we had a site for our trip. Which turned out to be an amazing location! The raging creek next to us was a great addition to an otherwise standard site
We camped here based on a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint. The campsite was really spacious, had great views, and a well maintained fire pit. I’ll definitely come back here again
This dispersed campground is a great place to camp if you are in the Leadville area. It has plenty of sites and we didn’t have trouble finding one, even though we didn’t get to the area until Saturday afternoon of Labor Day Weekend.
The only downside is it was noisier that we expected. There are cars on the road pretty much 24/7 (lots of people coming through in the early morning hours to hike Mt. Massive). The sites are also somewhat close together so we could hear our neighbors at times. But the positives outweighed the downside in my opinion. I also imagine it would be less busy on a non-holiday weekend.
My buddy and I camped here in February 2021 and had no issues finding a spot around 3:00 on a Friday. However, I imagine this will get very crowded during the busy season. There are very few sites and it is in a popular part of the park.
It is a great campsite thought. The toilets, picnic table, and fire ring were extremely nice to have
We camped here 4th of July Weekend 2022 and loved it. There were plenty of spots available, despite getting there around 2:00 on a Saturday, and the creek next to the site was a nice touch.
It’s also not far from the town of Winter Park which proved helpful when we needed to pick up some last minute supplies.
