Off the Beaten Path

This little gem of a campground is at exactly half way between Adin and Madeline in the middle of nowhere up a pretty good dirt road. Only a few sites and some not really suitable for a RV as they are not very level. I wouldn't venture in here if I thought the road would be muddy as it could get…

Too Close to the Highway

The spot itself is nice, nestled near Willow Creek among aspen. The problem is it is so close to highway 139 you can hear every car go by. Also, they set a bathroom that acts as a rest stop right on the highway at the campground so essentially you are camping at a rest stop. For us that just…

Peaceful countryside

We booked a stay here to unwind and see part of CA we had never explored. Pulled in and the owner himself came out to greet us with our welcome packet, never had to get out of the truck! The campground has a natural beauty. Marked trails to walk, often in shade. Owners are actively making…

I can’t say enough good things about this campground. Fowler’s was 100% full but as of later on a Thursday in mid-May here we have an entire loop to ourselves. Rain/showers were in some forecasts so some may have cancelled trips. Sites are much larger & more spread out than Fowler’s. Only…

A Beautiful Place to Stop...

Stopped here after being blocked several times by snow as I tried to get to Medicine Lake.  Great USFS campground, didn't hear anyone using generators, and everyone walking the nearby paved trails were so friendly.  A quick walk to the lower falls revealed fisherpeeps & kayakers in harmony. …

The perfect camp

We stayed in early May so it was chilly but during the day was 70’s so we got in the river and washed off. We stayed at the one site on the left before you cross the bridge and we didn’t see anyone all day or night. Plenty of flat ground and trees for hammocks. Walk just a couple feet right down to…

This state park is a gem

I stayed at this campsite after they opened from the pandemic while on a road trip home and I am so so happy I stayed here. The waterfall is like nothing I have ever seen before, and I was so blown away at it's size. The campground is a 5-10 min walk from the waterfall and while it is not private,…

Quiet campground next to busy day site

Where camped here just after they opened in April, 2021.  The daytime visitors made for a large crowded parking lot and line at the entrance station, but so far on 8 campers in the 64 sites that were open.

It is a wonderfully shaded park (i.e. no solar) and the sites are nicely separated. …

Quiet Island

This is undoubtedly the quietest campground we have ever visited.  Not just because there were few campers, but its location so far from any highway or city.  I would also like to give kudos to the the fire crews who saved this area from the fire last year.  The visitor center and campground are an…

Spacious, Friendly, Clean, well kept and intriguing :)

We are winter camped here for a couple of days on our way to Mexico... The Dyrt spotted this campground for us on our route and we are sooo glad... We will make this a destination in the future.

Absolutely Breathtaking

We booked this campsite as an overnight stay on our way to Southlake Tahoe from Eugene Oregon. The campsite is incredibly beautiful with views of Mount Shasta and several other mountain peaks from the edge of the campground. Dannelle and Ben were incredibly helpful during the reservation and check…

Caves, caves, caves!

The campground is standard fair, firepit/grill, lots of room. I've been up a few times and never had anyone next to our site given how remote it is. Great Nat'l Monument to visit during the winter because the caves stay the virtually the same temperature year round.

Explore the largest…

Great option when Fowler’s is full!!

was super impressed by this one. got in later than expected and fowler’s was full, cattle camp did not disappoint. short drive or medium walk to a cold shasta swimming hole, nice trails, some highway buzz but nothing too bothersome.

Great Vibes for an In Transit Night

Great location on the way to many points north along with an excellent morning or evening adventure to the falls. Camp Host (owner/operator?) is awesome and worth the stay alone.

Sites are a bit tight so might not be the solitude you’d want to a multi day stay but was perfect and energizing for a…
