    Airport Park - Waco Lake

    Airport Park COE, Lake Waco

Airport Park on Lake Waco, in Waco, TX. We really like this park. We were in site 27, which our camp side is shady during the afternoon and evening. Each site has a fire ring, bbq grill, & lantern post. The RV parking pad is asphalt and long. Big Rigs would have no problems here. When we arrived the gravel pad was raked all nice and neat. 50 amp sites are $26 a night. The loop we are in doesn't have the nice restrooms. We are in the loop that has sites 16 - 36. To me, these are the nicer RV sites, if only the restrooms were better. The other 2 loops have really nice restrooms, with private shower rooms. Site 24 looks to be the pick, as it has shade pretty much all day. We will definitely come back to this camp ground.

    Live Oak Ridge

    Excellent Restful Campground

Live Oak Ridge COE Campground is excellently maintain and is a very low-key, restful place to land.  Large sites with ample vehicle parking that offer substantial distance from the neighboring sites give room to bring multiple vehicles or a boat along with the RV.  The sites are well maintained by the hosts who are not obtrusive and just keep a low profile to ensure things are clean and go well. The restroom area is also clean and has showers and toilets. A better-than-typical playground is set in a great interior place for all to enjoy. Water access is through the boat ramp, so don't expect to launch from your RV site since they are elevated far above the water. We stayed in Site 7 (and later extended it to Site 6). Both were easy to back into and fairly level with nice concrete pads, grills, and wonderful covered picnic tables. Both had tree coverage on one side. There are nature trails across the main road and access to Belton and their small but awesome riverwalk area, historic Salado, Still Hollow Lake, the Belton dam (we could see the mural from both sites), Chalk Ridge Waterfalls and Temple, TX within a few minutes. This is a great landing spot for many nearby activities EXCELLENT National Park pricing for 50 amp and water hookups with dump site available.

    Flat Creek RV Resort

Ideal Country Setting Only A Few Miles From Waco

There is nothing I like more than finding a nice place to retreat from a city which allows the comfort of the outdoors and relaxation with the convenience of the neighboring city amenities. It is the perfect blend of both worlds.

This can be a bit difficult for a tent camper however, so again I was able to find an ideal location for my RVing friends at this site. Normally that would instantly lower my rating because I cannot personally utilize the location at this time without a rig, however this site was so impressive I couldn't steer away!

Pulling up to the park the gate is grand. The park itself sits a short 5 minutes away from the city on a quiet road. The park is expansive and the accommodations rest several hundred yards away from the traffic of the small country road. It is so peaceful!!

Sites seemed to be spread nicely to have the sense of community but not being to close to form crowding. Each space is separated by a grassy area which accommodates a picnic table and has enough room for a little stretching room.

When I visited all of the units there seemed to be very well maintained and even though they do have both overnight and long term stay options, nothing seemed to have the "moved in" look (no underpinnings, no long sewage hoses typical of long term parks).

I was very excited to see the large area for walking your dogs, area which allowed space to play and roam, a pond to fish in or to enjoy, a fire pit for community use and very nice shower and laundry facilities.

The roads around the park were wide and well maintained, the green spaces were manicured well and as I visited people were all very friendly. It made me want an RV just so I could visit!

    Tips:

    • To stay at this park make sure you make reservations ahead of time. While there is plenty of space, they do fill up and reservations will ensure your stay especially during the more populated seasons.

    • Take advantage of the free wifi when here, just pulling in I checked it out and noticed it was pretty decent from all areas of the park.

    • Bring your fishing poles! This park has a variety of fish in the stocked pond perfect for a relaxing day at the park.

    Meridian State Park Campground

    Meridian State Park

Wish they would change the name to Meridian State Park instead of just Meridian on here.  Very nice, small, peaceful park.  There are 8 pull thru sites with full hookups, including 50 amp.  We were in on site 6.  Fairly level, but not much room to put a rug out.  They had 5 big rocks out to keep people from parking to close to the site.  Very close to the bathroom and shower room.  Very clean.  Right next to Park Office.  Lake was only 5 minute walk or minute drive.  Excellent swimming area  with picnic tables and grills.  Did not get a chance to fish there but heard it is very good.  Very quiet park.

    Flat Creek RV Resort

A Nice Spot, Perfect Distance From Town

We stayed here long term for work, in our camper trailer. This is a great place, for long or short stays. All sorts of rigs, maybe not quite the place for tents. The owner is very kind. The property is well maintained. Gravel pads, with all the hook ups. It's great not having to move to drain the tanks. There is a community area called the scale house, indoor and outdoor chill spots to enjoy the scenery. A small shower/laundry house, and overflow parking for boats, extra vehicles, etc. The creek runs along side the campground, and herds of sheep roam across the creek with friendly and protective sheep dogs. You can fish in the creek and in the pond located within the sheep field. We really enjoyed this spot.

    McCown Valley Park

    Fantastic, scenic along Lake Whitney

Great COE campground on Lake Whitney with well spaced sites for trailers and tent camping. Includes a large section for equestrian campers that includes paddocks for your horse as well as trails to ride on. There are both 30 and 50 amp spots as well as tent camping sites. A boat launch, shallow swimming areas and 2 playgrounds round out this fantastic, family friendly campground!

Guide to Waco Lake

Campsites near Waco Lake feature a mix of forested and lakeside settings with elevations ranging from 450-550 feet. Summer temperatures typically exceed 90°F from June through September, with high humidity making shade access important for tent campers. Most RV campgrounds remain open year-round while experiencing lower occupancy during winter months when temperatures average 40-60°F.

What to do

Fishing access points: Flat Creek RV Resort provides creek and lake fishing opportunities for guests. "Bring your fishing pole-both a creek and lake for guests to catch and release. Everyone we talked to was very friendly and welcoming," notes Denise P., who appreciated the combination of natural amenities and convenience.

Walking trails: Thousand Trails Lake Whitney features multiple hiking trails through wooded areas. "It's a great spot in the woods with plenty of hiking trails," according to Rachel P., though she mentions trails "are not well marked." The campground sits approximately 25 miles from Waco Lake and offers a quieter alternative for nature exploration.

Community areas: Several rv sites near Waco Lake provide gathering spaces for campers. "There is a community area called the scale house, indoor and outdoor chill spots to enjoy the scenery," explains Hope R. from Flat Creek RV Resort. The property includes creek views and opportunities to observe local sheep herds with their guardian dogs.

What campers like

Clean facilities: North Crest RV Park receives consistent praise for maintenance. "The bathhouse is exceptionally clean. The camper pads are level," reports Karan W. Another camper, Deanna C., highlights that "The bathhouse is amazing with two full baths in total privacy. Can be used as family baths."

Spacious sites: Several campgrounds offer roomier sites than typical RV parks. "We loved the trees and nice wide slips. Nice not to be within 5 feet from your neighbor," notes Doug M. about North Crest RV Park. This spaciousness contrasts with more densely packed options closer to downtown.

Shaded locations: Tree cover provides relief from Texas heat at several properties. "The park is filled with tall shade trees, nice to have in the summer heat," explains John C. about his stay at North Crest. Similarly, at Clifton RV Park, James G. observes "Lots of trees" in this "very nice country setting" approximately 30 miles from Waco Lake.

What you should know

Road conditions: Access quality varies significantly between properties. At Lake Whitney RV Campground, Kimberly notes "The road in is in need of repair badly. Lots of potholes, so take it slow." Similarly, Rachel P. cautions about "various states of disrepair. Lots of potholes and pavement breaks make it rough hauling an expensive rig."

Highway noise: Proximity to I-35 affects sound levels at some locations. Bobbie S. at Magnolia RV Resort reports "very loud traffic noises" impacting her experience despite the park's amenities. Sites farther from major roads typically offer quieter environments.

Reservation systems: Policies differ between parks. At Lake Whitney, Matthew observes "quite a few spots that were bagged and marked as out of service" while Chris K. notes "sites are first come first serve and there is no holding sites, especially if you are going as a group."

Tips for camping with families

Pool access: Several RV sites near Waco Lake feature swimming pools. Tammie L. highlights that at Lake Whitney "the basketball court and pool(s) looked very nice," while Kimberly affirms there are "Lots to do for the kiddos in the campground area."

Pet amenities: Blue Sky I-35 RV Park provides dedicated pet areas. "The attendant put us in spot 59 across the street from the dog park. But more importantly a big open field with a walking path around it. Made our fur babies happy," reports andrew.

Educational opportunities: Farm experiences supplement camping at some locations. At Flat Creek RV Resort, Hope R. describes how "herds of sheep roam across the creek with friendly and protective sheep dogs," creating wildlife viewing opportunities for children interested in farm animals.

Tips from RVers

Arrival timing: Plan for daylight check-ins when possible. Tammie L. advises about Lake Whitney: "Glad I arrived during the daylight it would be very difficult to find an RV spot at night!"

Site selection: Consider specific site features when booking. At Flat Creek RV Resort, Molly S. recommends: "We were at lot 59, which runs horizontal with the creek. Very nice plot. It's also at the very front of the campground, so it's not close to where the bulk of the campers are staying."

Leveling needs: Many sites require minor adjustments. "Gravel Sites are mostly level, but park and gravel are new, so there is some settling expected in near term, so minor leveling may be expected," notes James G. about Clifton RV Park. Similarly, at Flat Creek, Molly S. mentions "It is a gravel site, so we did have to do some leveling when we got there."
