Beautiful nature park

We really enjoyed the nature at this park. Sunsets on Lake Waco are mesmerizing. The deer wander right out to the road at dusk. We started out in the second section of sites however the bathrooms were closed completely for construction (looks like a brand new building) so we moved to the first section. Bathrooms worked fine and were relatively clean, just typical campground stuff- bugs and some dirt. Site 15 is up a hill so you’ve got a great view of the lake. The fallen trees and rocks make for great exploration and photos. We extended our stay and moved sites to site 57. There’s no sewer hook up there but man the views! Large open grassy area with beautiful twisty trees and a little beach area. We put our camp chairs near the little cliff to sit. Park is very very quiet and peaceful! Watched hawks and lions catch fish. The wind can be a bit much at times but it was fine. This back section of bathrooms was awful- first has a door missing, one had the shower knob missing, another very dirty and mildewy. Gave my husband and daughter sneezing fits. One you had to torque the shower handle and twist weird to get it to work, someone couldn’t shut it off one night and it was left on until morning when my husband got it turned off. The handicap bathroom wasn’t functional. The women’s bathroom seemed to be cleaned every other day but I don’t think the showers were touched. Other than that we enjoyed it a lot! Dump station works great and the gal at the gate was super sweet. Gates close at 10pm and you can not get back in until 6am. No idea why that’s a thing but that’s the rule.

Girl Scout trip

There was plenty of room for us between the two sites. We probably could have fit all 12 of us on one site. The site is on a little peninsula so the wind was an issue but would be nice on a hot day. Bathrooms were a bit of a walk.

Filthy women’s restroom

This park is a short drive to all of Waco attractions including the famous Silos. We stayed Friday and Saturday nights.

Pros:

• Very friendly gate attendant

• Extremely quiet park except for arriving/departing aircraft at Waco Regional Airport

• Great view of the lake as trees/shrubs are minimal

• Clean campsite

• Very clean campfire pit

• Most sites had a nice distance from neighbor sites

• Crushed granite surrounds the site’s asphalt parking pad so no muddy mess after rain

• Pedestal BBQ grill, fire pit with grilling grate and aluminum picnic table at each site

• Some sites had aluminum roof pavilion over picnic table

• Some sites had lantern pole

• Park roadways in good condition

• Entrance gate locked at 10pm

• Plenty of TP in women’s restroom

• 4 bar signal AT&T

Cons:

• Filthy women’s restroom. Human feces on floor. Two of the three stalls locked for days. One remaining stall the door would not close and latch. Sign posted on door that restrooms were cleaned Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, but the human feces were on the floor Friday night, Saturday all day and Sunday morning. Exterior door would not close completely.

• No water to sinks in women’s restroom

• No soap dispenser and no hand dryer in women’s restroom

• Men’s restroom door locked Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning

• Exterior door to one shower room was unable to be closed

• Extremely low water pressure to campsite

• No site privacy due to minimal trees/brush throughout the park

• Low hanging tree branches over roadway and campsite pad

• Our campsite pedestal BBQ grill was extremely corroded

• No wildlife sightings- not even a squirrel

• NOT A DARK SKY FRIENDLY CAMPGROUND! Boat launch lights across the cove lit up most of the campground. Large lights on the toilet/shower building that made it nearly as bright as daylight!

A nice near spot to camp

This Is a great area to camp near Waco without having to travel far. Just 5 minutes outside the Waco City limits, these grounds have a lot of hook up spots without feeling too crowded. Its also a great place to tent camp, or use one of a few cabins that are available. Nearly every camp site is a  stones throw from the water. Great Swimming and fishing. There are a number of places to pull your boat up to shore. There is a play ground, but its only near a few sites and quite a distance from most sites. But for older kids with bikes, it's a fun ride. There are deer and rabbits and birds and squirrels. Its a nice little spot that is laid out to feel big.

Weekend Trip

We tent camped at a sheltered cabin - cabin had two tables, water, and electric, plus a fan! Lots of easy water access. Showers and restrooms were available but definitely would advise these are "natural" bathrooms. Park staff very friendly. Sheltered cabins not super close to one another so helped with privacy and making you feel like you aren't crowded. No hiking trails though but is close to Mammoth if you want to spend a day there. About 3 hours from San Antonio. Wifi and cell service

Airport Park COE, Lake Waco

Airport Park on Lake Waco, in Waco, TX. We really like this park. We were in site 27, which our camp side is shady during the afternoon and evening. Each site has a fire ring, bbq grill, & lantern post. The RV parking pad is asphalt and long. Big Rigs would have no problems here. When we arrived the gravel pad was raked all nice and neat. 50 amp sites are $26 a night. The loop we are in doesn't have the nice restrooms. We are in the loop that has sites 16 - 36. To me, these are the nicer RV sites, if only the restrooms were better. The other 2 loops have really nice restrooms, with private shower rooms. Site 24 looks to be the pick, as it has shade pretty much all day. We will definitely come back to this camp ground.

Chilling by the Lake

We setup right next to the Lake Waco, we enjoyed a light breeze coming off the lake most of the time. We arrived after the gate house closed but before the gates closed. Sites look level but we needed to reposition a couple times to get everything thing level and maximize the view. All sites come with covered picnic table and fire ring. Not many trees so shade is hard to find. Was a great place to stay and is close to Waco. Only negative was the bathhouse needed some attention. But overall this is a good place to stay

Great sites

I would like to give this campground a 5, but I can't. We are in a pandemic and the bathrooms are not clean. According to the sign on the door, the restrooms were supposed to be cleaned on Thursday, and some people came and maybe, swept. The men's room and the ladies room doors do not close all the way so there is a rock that everyone is supposed to shove up against the door to keep it shut but many people can't be bothered,so they are full of bugs. The staff that we saw were very helpful and nice, but the bathrooms are not clean.
