    Cedar Breaks Park

    Beautiful big sites

The sites are large which means you aren't right on top of your neighbors. Lots of shade. Each site has its own shelter with picnic table, grill and fire pit. Electric and water but no sewer. The sites along the outside of the loop have lake views and are level. The sites along the inside are scary unlevel! Some of the big rigs were backed in and jacked up 4 feet or so in front. Saw a lady break her ankle stepping out of her camper. Be prepared to level your camper! I suggest odd numbers 19-35 and even numbers 36-42 as the most level sites with the best lake views.

The park has hiking trails, boating and swimming access, but none of these are accessed right at the camp area.

Restrooms are very basic with no hot water. They were clean but a little creepy for showers. I used the toilets there during the day and my camper shower and toilet at night.

    Jellystone Park™ Austin North

    Dream campground

Amazing resort. Great monthly rate. They go above and beyond with their amenities providing an indoor play room, full kitchen, business center, etc. Very family friendly resort with plenty of activities planned. Lots of full time families staying here long term which makes for a fun time. The one downside was that we didn’t get the sites that we had put a deposit down for. There seems to be a lot of turnover in the office so when we checked in it wasn’t the same lady who had helped us pick out our sites and reserve them. We travel with my parents and always try to stay next to them but they were unwilling to accommodate that even though they originally told us they would. All in all I do recommend this park for the amazing ambiance and amenities.

    Sunset RV Park

    Peace in Hill Country

I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as a Basecamp — grounds that offer a comfortable home base that you’re happy to return to after a day of exploring the surrounding area. Ratings for this category are based on: Value to cost: 5 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, layout, accessibility): 4 Local Attraction Proximity: 4 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 5 Amenities: 4 Customer Service: 5 Cleanliness: 4

A really lovely spot in Dripping Springs, Sunset RV Park is a small park in Hill Country outside Austin (this is not the one near Lake Travis). It’s clear that this is a destination spot for snowbirds to the area as most everyone was set-up for a long-term stay and we saw very few folks come and go during our one-week stay. The park is very quiet with close attention paid to COVID precautions (this is the first park we encountered that was 100% contact free check in).

The park is built somewhat into a hill, so some of the turns are a little tricky and our spot was a bit uneven. The space itself was a very wide asphalt driveway with a picnic table and metal fire ring below a stone wall, perhaps a bit close to our neighbors as I wasn’t totally certain it was definitely ours to use.

The amenities are pretty basic- clean laundry and bathrooms and a good enough wifi signal to allow us to use the internet easily. There’s also propane available on site. I enjoyed the layout of the grounds and each site was afforded some privacy thanks to the set-up and tiered spaces. The weekly rate of $300 was very reasonable.

Excellent access to Hamilton Pool (make reservations!), Reimers Ranch and Westcave Discovery Center. Also about 30 minutes to most of Austin including SoCo, McKinney Falls SP and 6th Street.

Reservations were made by phone with a very friendly woman and, as I mentioned, check in was contactless, so we really didn’t encounter anyone else aside from a friendly wave from folks maintaining the grounds in golf carts. The place is a nice find outside Austin and very close by to family for us, so we’re happy to have found it and will return!

La Hacienda RV Resort & Cottages

La Hacienda RV Resort and Cottages + Lots of Amenities

I'm always on the lookout for new campgrounds nearby my town. It's nice to have a few places to escape to for a quick day or weekend trip. I searched on thedyrt.com for campgrounds nearby and noticed a group of listings near Lake Travis in an area called Hudson Bend. I decided to check them out.

If you are looking for a short, mid or long-term place to RV camp or cabin camp near Lake Travis on the Hudson Bend penisula this might be your best option.

The facilities are modern, clean and offer many amenities. And the people that I talked to that were staying at the park seemed to be friendly and happy with their choice of facilities.

At the entrance there is an office that is open during typical business hours 9-5. Next to the office there was a small pool and courtyard. And next to the pool was a group meeting room.

The park offered a variety of options from short, mid and long-term stays. One gentleman that I met and talked to said that he was a snowbird and had stayed at the park for the past four years every summer. This appeared to be the norm.

There are RV sites that offer back-in parking and drive-through parking. There are also little multi-color cabins that can be rented. The grounds looked like they were well taken care of. There was some open green space and what appeared to be a fenced dog walking area. Each of the RV sites offered a picnic table and electric and water hookups.

The only downside to this RV park was that it was not located directly on the shore of the lake. To access the lake one must drive down the road and visit the marina. Also, the park is rather large, so some might feel there is a lack of privacy. I wouldn't say that this park has great access to nature, it is more of a modern RV park.

Overall, if you're a mid to long term vacationer you might really enjoy this site. If you're looking for access to nature, you might look elsewhere.

    Live Oak Ridge

    Excellent Restful Campground

Live Oak Ridge COE Campground is excellently maintain and is a very low-key, restful place to land.  Large sites with ample vehicle parking that offer substantial distance from the neighboring sites give room to bring multiple vehicles or a boat along with the RV.  The sites are well maintained by the hosts who are not obtrusive and just keep a low profile to ensure things are clean and go well. The restroom area is also clean and has showers and toilets. A better-than-typical playground is set in a great interior place for all to enjoy. Water access is through the boat ramp, so don't expect to launch from your RV site since they are elevated far above the water. We stayed in Site 7 (and later extended it to Site 6). Both were easy to back into and fairly level with nice concrete pads, grills, and wonderful covered picnic tables. Both had tree coverage on one side. There are nature trails across the main road and access to Belton and their small but awesome riverwalk area, historic Salado, Still Hollow Lake, the Belton dam (we could see the mural from both sites), Chalk Ridge Waterfalls and Temple, TX within a few minutes. This is a great landing spot for many nearby activities EXCELLENT National Park pricing for 50 amp and water hookups with dump site available.

We’ve had such an amazing time here. McKinney Falls State Park Campground

Excellent State Park close to Austin

This park is a great option for nature camping very close to all the attractions of Austin. The sites are spacious and they all have electricity and water hookups (some sites have 50 amps, most have 30 amps). All are reservable and very affordable at $24/$20 respectively, with greater discount if you’re a Texas State Parks Pass holder. We are out-of-staters and found great value in the parks pass! Second nights at campgrounds are 50% off and free admission to all state parks.

The sites are very private and spacious and have nearby hiking trails accessible from the sites. There are several camping loops in the park, most of which have easy access to the Onion Creek hike & bike trail. Booking online is straightforward and check-in is virtually contactless.

We spent time hiking the Homestead and Flint Rock trails and really enjoyed the peace and solitude, knowing we were so close to the metropolitan area. A perfect spot for enjoying the city during the day while staying surrounded by nature at night!

    Cedar Breaks Park

    Had a great stay!

I am new to the rv life and own a used Coleman Bayside pop up camper. I own a business in Austin and love escaping to the woods at the end of the day.

Im wrapping up a 10 day stay at Cedar Breaks Park campground and will return for sure!

Lake Georgetown is the main attraction and is beautiful, quiet & clean.

The park & campground is easy to find and easy for larger or vehicles with travel trailers / campers in tow. Many grocery stores / restaurants / shopping / medical facilities are close by also (within 2-5 miles)

Sites all have 30, 50a and water hookups (im not sure about sewer hookups at sites but they do have a sewer dump station at front of campground) more than adequate restroom & shower facilities located in the center of the campground.

The staff is absolutely amazing, they are friendly, knowledgable and accommodating.

ROOKIE MISTAKE #1 “GET THE AFTER HOURS GATE CODE” After setting up camp the first day, I realized I needed food for Grady (my silver lab) and drove to Walmart. WELL, I didnt pay attention and got locked out. I didnt have the after hours gate code & had to park out front and walk down to my site & wentback up in the morning to get my truck. Not a huge deal, but a lesson I learned lol

Guide to Pflugerville

RV campgrounds near Pflugerville, Texas sit in a transitional zone between the Blackland Prairie and Edwards Plateau regions, with elevations ranging from 700-850 feet. Most facilities experience a humid subtropical climate with hot summers reaching 95-100°F and mild winters. Cell service remains strong throughout the area with several parks now offering dedicated workspace amenities for remote workers needing reliable connectivity.

What to do

Lady Bird Lake trail access: Campers staying at Austin Lone Star RV Community can easily reach the 10-mile path around Lady Bird Lake, perfect for biking or running. "We were able to ride our bikes to Congress bridge to vote the bats, to the trails of baton creek beltway, the Barton springs pool and lots more," shares one visitor who appreciated the convenient trail connections.

Water recreation at Cedar Breaks: During summer months, tubing activities are available at River Forest Haven along the Colorado River. "The tubing is great for people with children who don't necessarily want to go tubing two to four hours... Very short route but water safety should be practiced as it is very deep in some areas," explains one reviewer who found it ideal for families.

Urban exploration options: Camping at Pecan Grove RV Park puts you within walking distance of popular Austin attractions. "We went on bike rides and runs right from the site and we could easily hop on a scooter and check out so many popular Austin spots. There is also a gas station store across the street from the park that has most things you will need in a pinch."

What campers like

Security features: Many parks within 20 miles of Pflugerville have enhanced their security systems. "Very secure, codes used to enter gate, pool, showers/restrooms & 24hour laundry room," notes a camper about Austin Lone Star RV Community. The gated entry systems provide peace of mind for campers leaving equipment at their sites while exploring Austin.

Pet accommodations: Oak Forest RV Park offers multiple dedicated pet areas beyond standard leash rules. "There's multiple dog parks, hammock areas, common areas with fire pits and grills, gardens for the community," writes one reviewer describing the pet-friendly infrastructure that exceeds typical campground offerings.

Private bathroom facilities: Several Pflugerville area RV parks feature individual bathrooms rather than communal facilities. "Five star private bathrooms, pool areas are clean and well kept. Grounds are manicured with fire pit common areas," mentions a camper who appreciated the hotel-quality restroom amenities at Oak Forest RV Park.

What you should know

Train noise considerations: Some campgrounds experience significant railroad activity. At Redbud Ranch RV Resort, one reviewer noted, "What made this place a 'no-go' for us were the constant nonstop trains running throughout the night! Almost unbearable!" This contrasts with quieter parks further from train lines.

Price fluctuations: Unlike fixed rates at many campgrounds, several Pflugerville area RV parks adjust pricing based on demand. "A little pricey and the prices are subject to change depending on capacity (don't really care for that)," explains a camper at Redbud Ranch RV Resort, highlighting the variable pricing structure.

Terrain challenges: While concrete pads are common, some sites require careful positioning. "The spots are gravel (a little unlevel due to the slight hills) but perfectly spaced with full hook up," notes a reviewer about Austin Lone Star RV Community, suggesting leveling blocks may be necessary at certain parks.

Tips for camping with families

Splash features for children: Beyond standard pools, some parks offer specialized water features. "Pool with shallow end and lounge chairs in the water. A hot tub that will hold about 30 people. You can literally swim across it. Small splash pad area for the kids," details a reviewer about the family-friendly water amenities at Redbud Ranch RV Resort.

Multi-generational accommodations: Berry Springs RV Park provides options for mixed camping styles. "We have had a couple of stays here in our 26-ft travel trailer and really enjoyed the cleanliness and convenience," shares a camper who found the park suitable for various family configurations and equipment types.

Activity infrastructure: Parents appreciate parks with built-in entertainment options. "Playground equipment, 2 volleyball courts, horseshoes, tether ball, hammocks, tables, porch swing (hanging from a tree), ping pong table," lists one camper describing the extensive recreation facilities available at Redbud Ranch RV Resort.

Tips from RVers

Workspace considerations: Remote workers should prioritize parks with reliable utilities. "Only con is non existent WIFI. They do have fiber for long term," notes a reviewer about Oak Forest RV Park, suggesting those needing consistent connectivity should confirm internet options before booking.

Unassigned site challenges: Some parks operate on a first-come basis without assigned spots. "Down side is it isn't assigned sites, so if your self contained like my van we went out for the day and came back to someone set up in our spot. Drove around till we found another," cautions a River Forest Haven camper, recommending arrival early in the day.

Accessibility evaluations: RVers with mobility concerns should research bathroom facilities in advance. "The showers had good pressure and multi-function shower heads. Glass doors. Very clean. There are a couple ADA restrooms with showers that can be accessed by wheel chair," details a reviewer about the accessible amenities at Redbud Ranch RV Resort.
