    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Holiday Park Campground

Hard to Believe You’re Next to a Big City

When we got to Benbrook, we used the campground(CG) website instructions as we didn’t see any signage for the CG on US377 coming in from the east. We turned right onto Pearl Ranch Rd and followed it to the Holiday COE entrance about 2 miles straight down the road. Check in was easy and the guy who checked us in was very informative. We needed to fill our freshwater tank and he pointed out on the map the two dump stations with potable water. We proceeded to the dump station just inside the gate to find out there was not a potable water spigot just the usual rinse hose. We went back to the entrance and he informed us the park ranger had told him they are on well water and thus the water at the dump station was safe, even though there was a sign clearly stating it was not safe to drink. We were then told we could go to an empty camp site that had water hook-ups and fill up there, which we did. Not sure what we would have done if this had been a busy weekend with all of the water sites full. We then proceeded to pull through site 72 with 30/50 AMP. There was plenty of space for our 39’ fifth wheel and F-450 on the asphalt pad. The site had a covered cement patio with picnic table, and bbq/fire pit that we couldn't use due to a burn ban. Site 73 was the only other site in our little cul-de-sac. For the intent of this review, we toured the campground specifically looking for free standing water spigots, but didn't find any. The showers/restroom were old but in workable shape. If you want to stay where we did in sites 72-75 they were definitely electric only, contrary to what other reviews mentioned. There were water spigots at the sites but they had been capped off. Sites 76, 77,& 78 were also electric only and sat up on a hill with a slight lake view but are across the street from a neighborhood that backs up to the park. Sites 83- 93 had water and electric as well as some of the sites near the front of the park. We got 3 bars on Verizon and a whole bunch of OTA channels. We enjoyed the view of the lake and privacy at our site since we were the only ones there the whole time of our stay during the week.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Dallas

Dallas RV camping offers diverse experiences ranging from urban access to lake views. Most RV campgrounds in Dallas, Texas operate year-round, making them suitable for winter visitors escaping colder regions. The area's flat terrain makes for easy access, while seasonal temperatures can fluctuate dramatically from freezing winter nights to summer days that regularly exceed 100°F.

What to do

Explore local markets: Traders Village combines RV camping with extensive shopping opportunities. "Our 2nd visit and it is great, everything you need to live here on site. Good wifi for TV and in town for cell service. Not to mention, one of the biggest flee markets around and it's 2 days of walking and shopping," notes Alejandro G. at Traders Village.

Fish without a license: Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park offers catch-and-release fishing in their small pond with no license required. "There's a nice little pond you can fish in, catch-and-release only, no license required," explains Will and Lucinda B. The park is located just outside the DFW area, making it convenient for day trips into the city.

Sports activities: Many Dallas-area RV parks feature recreational facilities. Bluebonnet Ridge RV Park maintains "tennis/pickle ball court, small fishing lake, laundry, pool and tiny houses," according to reviewer Bill B., providing multiple activity options without leaving the campground.

What campers like

Security features: Gated access appeals to many campers at Dallas-area RV parks. "Gated. Level pads. Quiet. Dog park. Play ground. Wifi. Cable. Lake," notes Lauren Z. about Northside RV Resort, highlighting the sense of security and amenities in a concise review.

Private bathroom setups: Individual bathroom units receive high praise from campers. "Each shower has its own toilet and vanity behind a lockable door," mentions Angela R. about Northside RV Resort, appreciating the privacy compared to traditional communal facilities.

Shade coverage: Tree canopy is highly valued in Dallas's hot climate. "Maybe the Best in DFW... plus lots and lots of trees. Everything is clean. Nice pool, kids playground, exercise area, clean baths and great laundry," says Troy about Treetops RV Resort, pointing out the comprehensive amenities and critical shade.

What you should know

Bathroom availability varies: Not all parks offer shower facilities. "WARNING: NO BATHROOMS, NO SHOWERS. Quiet park with easy access to Dallas. Nice dog walking area and dog park. Full hookups," warns Jackie E. about Plantation Place RV Park. This can impact shorter stays or campers with smaller RVs.

Weather considerations: Dallas experiences extreme seasonal variations. "Summer temperatures in Dallas regularly exceed 100°F," making shade trees critical during peak season. When it rains, "some of the driveways do get muddy" at Bluebonnet Ridge according to Will and Lucinda B.

Noise factors: Highway proximity affects some locations. "You're really close to I-20, you will hear the road noise. Only trucks are loud," notes a reviewer about Bluebonnet Ridge, with similar situations at other parks near major roads.

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Many parks offer swimming options during hot months. "My boys jumped in the pool even though it was 55* outside and said it was a fun experience," shares Jessica F. about Treetops RV Resort, indicating the pool remains popular even in cooler weather.

Kid-friendly amenities: Look for parks with dedicated play areas. Shady Creek RV Park is "Very clean and well kept RV park. Close to town, but feels secluded enough," according to Jess W., offering a balance between convenience and a camping atmosphere.

Entertainment proximity: Many Dallas RV campgrounds provide easy access to major attractions. "Just down the road from the Cowboys Stadium... 25 minutes to downtown Dallas and 20 to Fort Worth," explains Stacey about Treetops RV Resort, highlighting the convenience for families wanting to explore area attractions.

Tips from RVers

Site spacing: RV site dimensions vary significantly between parks. "The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts," with room for both the RV and tow vehicle at many locations.

Internet considerations: Connection quality varies between parks. "The WiFi, while available, is really slow. When you connect, they track usage by hardware MAC address. Use too much, you get blocked and have to ask to be allowed back on," warns Will and Lucinda B. about Bluebonnet Ridge. Conversely, Patriot RV Park "gives free high speed internet," according to Sonny R.

Advance preparation: Book early for popular parks. "This is very popular RV Resort near Terrell, Tx. Do your reservation early or you may not get in!" advises Eddie B. about Bluebonnet Ridge, highlighting the demand for quality RV campgrounds in Dallas, Texas, especially during peak travel seasons.
