We have been here 3 times. Love the quiet atmosphere. It is close to downtown Sturgis. Great place for Rally. Equal distance between Rapid City and Spearfish. Pool, hot tub basketball court.
Full hookups and a place got tents. Cabins. Bar on premises

We fell in love with Custer State Park on a trip to see Mount Rushmore. . We opted for a camping cabin upon arrival and were pleased with the cleanliness of the cabin and facilities. The view from our cabins poach was outstanding. The wildlife was well worth the expense compared to tent camping.

We fell in love with Custer State Park on a trip to see Mount Rushmore. The vast expanse of the park is great as well as all of the great attractions and other natural areas so near. We opted for a camping cabin upon arrival and were pleased with the cleanliness of the cabin and facilities. The view from our cabins poach stellar overlooking a valley with some wildlife spotting :)

Have stayed here in the Camping Cabins seven times in six years. This is the quietest campground in the entire Black Hills-- away from the highway, yet asphalt road leads to entrance. Near Stockade Lake- beach, fishing pier, boat launch. Campground shower house could use an upgrade, but is kept in very good cleanliness. Road to/between cabins can become a little dusty. upper cabins could use a modern rest room a little closer. Water good, hosts are helpful & accommodating. Cabins kept in good & clean conditions with really nice, unique decks on each cabin. Lakeside group site is fantastic area for groups/ family reunions who like to camp together , yet by themselves.

This is a huge campground with tons of options which is nice, it also is in a great Central location for Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Windcave National Park and Mammouth Site so be sure to book a long enough stay.

These were the least nice camping cabins on our road trip but nothing to complain about. Laundry facilities were good, great camp store and restaurant on site.

This is a beautiful Good Sam Campground.

We really loved this campground! It was close to the Black Hills, Custer State Park & Mount Rushmore. Had basketball court, pool, hot tub, laundry & bath house. Full hookups, level concrete pad & just perfect!

The staff is so friendly, easy check in, very well kept, clean bathrooms and private showers. Pool and hot tub, close to everything. Campers observed quiet hours. We got a great nights rest, they offer a breakfast menu. We didn’t try but the option was there.

Located close to Sturgis and the Black Hills, it’s an excellent base for exploring the area. The onsite pool, hot tubs, and lounge are small but add a nice touch, while the friendly staff ensures a pleasant stay.

It’s particularly popular during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We stayed there shortly after the rally and were surprised to find the onsite bar closed throughout our entire stay.

This campground was absolutely gorgeous and a great place to stay while visiting the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Devil’s Tower. We had a beautiful campsite in the “Ranch” section that had lots of trees and was a fair distance away from our neighbors. Showers/restrooms were clean and the laundry facilities and camp store were handy. Kids loved the pool, hot tub, basketball, and volleyball court. I loved the wide open feel of the campground and would definitely recommend to others visiting the area.

This is a great place to stay. Not far from Rapid City but close to all the attractions in South Dakota. The heated pool was NOT heated and the hot tub was NOT hot. That is why I gave the CG four stars. I was really looking forward to using them. Also, both seemed overloaded with chemicals. I have owned lots of pools with blue colored bottoms, but these looked like there was “Ty-d-bowl” added. Brilliant, stark blue. I just don’t believe it can be just the basic treatment. See what you think. ???The laundry areas (3 of them) were clean and tidy, too. $2.00 for each, but 45 minutes on the dryer, so that’s fair. 😀 Our spot was a bit difficult for us to level our rig on because the rocks kept slipping. We had to go purchase extra Xchocks. There is a nice store for basic needs, and alcohol, and an event schedule for evening entertainment. The event center serves wings (no celery or carrot sticks), pizza, etc. There is a playground for kids and they said a dog park. —-I did find a big area there, but no fence around it. ???

We stayed at a Legion Lake cabin in Custer State Park. The cabin was fantastic - comfey beds, kitchenette and private bathroom. But the area around the cabins and along the lake shore is recovering from construction, so you may want to give the grass some time to grow. It's pretty brown around the cabins currently. The lake is still lovely though, and Custer State Park is full of views and wildlife as always. One of my favorite places.

We were coming in a little late and they called us to check in which was nice. When we arrived a guy took us to our spot up a small hill to a back campsite area where the “lux” spots are. We had one with a hot tub and a grill which was really nice.

The spots are not super close but there is no tree coverage or shrubbery between them. Luckily it wasn’t full so we had some privacy in that way.

They have a laundry room which was well maintained and connected to a sort of game room with air hockey which we played while waiting for our laundry

Probably gets fairly busy during the bike rally but we came off season so it was pretty quiet

Our stay at Blue Bell Campground was one of the highlights of our recent cross-country road trip. With only 30 campsites suitable for tents or RVs, this was a nice spot to unwind after busy days within the park. 

Unlike many of the other campgrounds in Custer, this one is not waterfront, so it is a bit quieter and more relaxed. Campsites are $21 (plus the entrance fee) for a standard tent site without hookups. Sites with electricity are $25, and camping cabins are $50 per night. 

We stayed in one of the tent sites at the edge of the campground, so it was super quiet, but close to the amphitheater for ranger programs, as well as the bathhouse, and the Blue Bell Stables for trail rides.  

There is so much to do in Custer State Park. We stayed for three days, but could easily have stayed longer. We hiked the Sunday Gulch Trail near Sylvan Lake, which was fantastic, drove all of the scenic drives, including the Needles Highway, The Iron Mountain Road, and the Wildlife Loop. We also swam in Legion Lake, which is the closest lake to Blue Bell, and canoed on Center Lake. 

While we were there, we made friends with our camping neighbors, who all agreed that Blue Bell Campground was one of the nicest in the park. The campground hosts are incredibly nice and cell service was pretty good compared to other spots in the park.

Privately owned ranch setting with dispersed tent sites, 4 full RV hook-ups under huge old Willow Trees, 1 one-room camping log cabin for 2-3 people and 1 guestroom for 2 in the owners home.Toilet room with flush toilet and cold water sink, outdoor shower building for camping solar shower bags, hydrants with drinking water and electric outlets.Cabin and house guests may use one of the bathrooms/shower in our home.

Coffee and tea in the mornings is served on our large porch. There you find WiFi and electric outlets for charging your devices.

Free Parking in designated areas close to all the camp sites. Direct access to National Forest all around us.

There is an approved large fire pit for campfires, otherwise no other fires on the ground allowed. We normally have fire wood for sale here.

As a Ranger on The Dyrt, I sometimes receive compensation for reviews like this one. We received a coupon code for The Dyrt's online product store in exchange for trying out the new online camping reservation system to make a reservation for Buffalo Ridge Camping Resort. 

We reserved a campsite for Buffalo Ridge Camping Resort through The Dyrt, and it was a breeze to go through the process. We were emailed the reservation information, payment was taken via bank card, and it all made the check-in process very fast upon arrival. We decided to change from a tent site to a log cabin and all the contact information was in the email, so we called and they made the change for us at the office. When we arrived they handed over the key and off we went. 

Buffalo Ridge is conveniently located in Custer, South Dakota. It is at the location of the previous Flintstones Resort(my kids miss that place), and some of the playground equipment from the Flintstones Theme Park were located at the campground. My boys loved playing on the teeter-totters and in the old Flintstones car that were there. Good memories. The resort is sectioned into areas- a tent area, the glamping tipi area, two RV areas, and the cabins. There is a main building where you check in and they have a nice little gift shop with trendy, outdoorsy items and camping needs available. The heated pool is coming… they have broken ground behind the main building! However, since the pool is promised on their website, they partnered with another of the Custer Hospitality’s properties, Comfort Inn, which is across the road, and provide passes to the indoor swimming pool there until their pool is done. My sons were thrilled as the night we stayed at Buffalo Ridge it got down in the 30’s- that would have been a very chilly outdoor swim for June! 

The RV sites are pretty typically spaced, and there are small trees throughout. The tent sites are large, have a fire ring, and some have picnic shelters as well as tables. There are two types of cabins, log (think KOA-style) and rustic. They sleep 4-5 comfortably. Cabins also have fire rings and picnic tables, and there are trash cans right outside the cabin! What a nice touch(you can tell we aren’t in bear country here!). There is a really nice, new laundry and shower facility and a bathroom building with two toilets and a very large outdoor sink for washing dishes. 

The price for this campground is more than reasonable compared with others in the area! We were happy to see both their tent sites and their cabin prices were about$10 below the local competition. All of the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful, and did their best to insure a positive stay. 

The log cabin we stayed in did not have A/C, but they do provide a space heater(which we needed in June, believe it or not), but they are situated near the top of the ridge so get a nice breeze. There were two sets of beds inside, one twin bunk and one full-twin bunk. Five could easily sleep there. There is a nice porch with chairs and a swinging bench as well. Our sons asked if we could stay a second night, they enjoyed it so much! 

Right now (as of June 2019) they are working on installing the outdoor pools, expanding the second RV area(looks almost done), they just paved the east entrance this week, and are putting in more gravel and possibly paving more of the main roads. It is going to be a very nice campground when it is finished, as it already has a great start! There were a ton of RV’s the night we stayed, and they have an employee that leads you to your site using a golf cart, which is always a nice touch. Class A’s fit easily into their sites, as well as RV’s with slides. Plenty of safe room for kids to run around and play as well. All around, we are very pleased to have Buffalo Ridge in our home town and will stay there again just for the fun of it!

For the techies - excellent Wi-Fi service is included all over the campground, and there is a  very good 4G Verizon signal at the campground.

If you need something they are on it..they have the best options for camping.. cabins, teepees, barrel kegs, tent, electric tent, w/e 30 amp, 30 amp full h/hu, 50 amp f/hu, and big rig sites..they have worked endlessly to supply you with the best experience. The campground is not your typical parking lot camping..each site is individually unique..it was made around hills, tons of shade trees,and rock formations. Each site is as level as possible. Restroom are individual with shower sink and toilet.. they are very clean. There is a fort playground for the kids that's fantastic. There is a pavilion that can be used for family gatherings. Several reunions are hosted every year..You will have local wildlife visit daily including deer and turkeys. In the spring the new fawns and chick turkeys are born and are adorable. They are centralized to all attractions..perfect location to everything. The several clients that have been repeat customers for years..staying for 6 to 8 weeks..that speaks for it self..everybody loves it. It's very quiet, the store has everything you need. Michelson trail is approximately 1 mile away which can be walked or ride bikes the 114 miles through the mountains. The hospital is 1 mile away. If your in the area, and you need an excellent place to stay..at the best price.. this is where you want to be.. It's very family friendly including your dogs and cats.
