Heartland RV Park And Cabins

Highway noise from the adjacent interstate creates a constant backdrop at this full-hookup RV park positioned between Rapid City and the Black Hills attractions. The gravel pull-through sites accommodate rigs up to 50 feet, though leveling can require extra equipment as rocks tend to shift under stabilizers.

Staff maintains clean facilities throughout the property, with three laundry areas and private shower stalls that campers consistently praise. The heated pool operates seasonally, though some visitors report temperature and chemical balance issues during peak months. A small convenience store stocks basics, ice, and souvenirs, while an on-site restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with regular live music events and wine tastings.

Sites feature full hookups but limited shade, as newly planted trees remain small. The newer section lacks grass areas between sites, creating more of a parking lot feel. An enclosed dog exercise area provides space for pets, and a playground serves families with children. Cell reception remains strong throughout the property, with standard campground WiFi available.

"All facilities clean and well maintained," notes paul , who appreciated the level gravel sites during an extended stay. The location puts Mount Rushmore about an hour away, with Custer State Park and Deadwood requiring similar drive times. Management provides printed guides detailing distances to area attractions.

The constant interstate traffic means noise continues through the night, though most campers adapt to the steady sound. Occasional sewer odor issues can affect specific sites, and the property's proximity to the highway makes this more of a convenient base camp than a nature retreat. For those prioritizing full amenities and easy big-rig access while exploring the region, the practical setup works well despite the urban setting.

Great location

Heartland RV Park is located relatively close to Custer State Park and Mount Rushmore and many other tourist sites. The RV sites are gravel and the grass is not well established so when it rains it get kinda muddy. There are activities almost every night and there is a restaurant on site.

Pricey but good location

Super prime location to many of the attractions around. We felt very safe and welcome in this park though it's very much a parking lot feel we enjoyed our stay. Small gathering place that put on some wine tastings and live music. Small little pool to cool off. Pricey for a monthly stay but worth it for the location and easy parking even with the biggest of big rigs.

Nice Place

Long term stay. Great rates. All staff very courteous. All facilities clean and well maintained. Level gravel pull through sites of varying sizes. Each site has grass area except on the new end. It is very close to the highway, so there is a lot of road noise. Other than that our stay here has been excellent. Good cell reception. Standard campground wifi, but good reception. Haven't used cable. Nice enclosed dog exercise area. Playground for kiddies. It is off season, so pool, tennis court and some other facilities closed right now. We will be leaving the end of November, but after having been at several campgrounds over the past 2 years, this will be our go to place in the Rapid City area from now on.

Nice place to stay the night

We are traveling through South Dakota and a storm was brewing. We decided to camp here instead of dry camping so that we would have hookups incase we couldn't open the windows. It's really warm outside. They have a camp store, live music on a Sunday and a Cafe that offers pizza and wings for dinner, breakfast, and a bar. The only con is that there is no shade and it's right on the interstate. Looks like they've begun planting trees.

Tidy, Clean, Friendly, Attractions

This is a great place to stay. Not far from Rapid City but close to all the attractions in South Dakota. The heated pool was NOT heated and the hot tub was NOT hot. That is why I gave the CG four stars. I was really looking forward to using them. Also, both seemed overloaded with chemicals. I have owned lots of pools with blue colored bottoms, but these looked like there was “Ty-d-bowl” added. Brilliant, stark blue. I just don’t believe it can be just the basic treatment. See what you think. ???The laundry areas (3 of them) were clean and tidy, too. $2.00 for each, but 45 minutes on the dryer, so that’s fair. 😀 Our spot was a bit difficult for us to level our rig on because the rocks kept slipping. We had to go purchase extra Xchocks. There is a nice store for basic needs, and alcohol, and an event schedule for evening entertainment. The event center serves wings (no celery or carrot sticks), pizza, etc. There is a playground for kids and they said a dog park. —-I did find a big area there, but no fence around it. ???

Tons of amenities but long drive to the natural wonders

During a hot week mid June, we were grateful for full hookups, clean shower facilities, and a (small) pool to keep cool BUT the little trees beside each site provide no shade for the rigs. They provide breakfast and dinner for a fee if interested and have live music, wine tastings … no shortage of things to do on site and a good culture for families and retirees alike! We would’ve liked to be closer to the sites The Black Hills provides but we became accustomed to hour long drives or more to Custer for all the must-do things there! Deadwood and Devils Tower were 75 min and 2 hrs. The campground provided a printout with all the local attractions and how far they were! So helpful. Highly recommend Sylvan Lake hike(s), watching the Buffalo herds near the Wildlife Visitor Center at dusk, and feeding the Burros at the southeast corner - bring carrots and apples! Mt Rushmore and others are obvious things to see! I’ll quickly reiterate, facilities were always very clean! The convenience store didn’t have anything that interested us besides ice BUT it could be helpful to many in a pinch or even looking for souvenirs.

Nice, clean campground but noisy due to interstate

The campground is very well maintained and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The downside is that you are right on a highway and there is traffic noise all day and night. We also had an issue with the sewer hookup next to us stinking like rotten eggs making sitting outside unbearable. We were awakened our first morning by the awful smell permeating our camper. We had to keep it closed and run the air the remainder of our stay. We did alert the staff and they sent out someone but they just told us to keep our black tank closed to eliminate the odor. It wasn't coming from inside our camper as closing up and running AC solved that.

Friendly Staff, Family Friendly

The staff is so friendly, easy check in, very well kept, clean bathrooms and private showers. Pool and hot tub, close to everything. Campers observed quiet hours. We got a great nights rest, they offer a breakfast menu. We didn’t try but the option was there.
