"Wanted to find a close by place for a night of Tent camping and stumbled across this winter time ski resort/spring summer camping and adventure grounds. If you're into Disc golf this place has that too," explains Lois.
Mountain biking trails: Several campgrounds provide access to biking paths. "If you choose adventure this is the place for you, ride the ski lifts up to the top of the mountain then you get to bike down it, they have rental bikes available or bring your own," shares a Blue Mountain visitor.
Amish country exploration: Take advantage of the proximity to authentic Pennsylvania Dutch country. "Not much for amenities, but I loved the surrounding dutch/Amish towns! It was pretty cool to seemingly step back in time," notes Jill R. from Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country.
What campers like
Clean facilities: Pinch Pond Family Campground receives consistent praise for maintenance. "Our campsite was very spacious and the ENTIRE campground was extremely clean and tidy. The office and grounds keeping staff were super friendly and helpful," reports Melissa Y.
Family-friendly activities: Parents appreciate organized events for children. "This campground has nice large sites, shade and sunny, full hookups, clean pool, playground, super clean laundry room and bathrooms," states Tara N. at Pinch Pond.
Pool access: Multiple campgrounds offer swimming pools, which campers consistently rate highly. "They have a big lawn in the middle which rolls down to the lake. The weekend we were there they had a chicken dinner. It was actually very good. We experienced the hayride around the campground," describes Mary C. from Lake-In-Wood Campground.
Entertainment options: From mini-golf to arcade games, families have plenty of recreation choices. "We camped here over Memorial Day weekend and it was full. Miniature golf course could use some upkeep as there was trash strewn throughout the course. There was a pond for swimming and there were dead fish. There was a craft show in the barn which was nice," reports Jen R. about Spring Gulch Resort Campground.
What you should know
Site conditions vary widely: Many RV parks feature uneven terrain requiring leveling blocks. "The campground itself is very tight, cramped, and hard to navigate. Unlevel is an understatement we were in E row and every camper there had front end 4 foot off the ground. Many other sites were the same," explains Justin B. about Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country.
Shooting range proximity: Some campgrounds are located near shooting facilities. "The only thing that is negative is that there is a shooting range right next door. It is pretty consistent from lunch to dinner. If you're out and about, it won't be an issue," warns Tara N. from Pinch Pond.
Seasonal availability: Most RV parks near Port Clinton operate from April through October. "Sites are very close together. Fire rings are very close to campers. Water was rusty in our row came out brown at first then was tan after running through our filter for the entire stay," reports Justin B.
Early arrival fees: Robin Hill Campground and others charge for early check-in. "Check in is as 3pm, we showed up at 2:45 after a 7 hr drive and they made us pay $15 extra. Sites were average. Caught some cat fish in the pond," notes Michael K.
Tips for camping with families
Pool scheduling: Plan swimming time appropriately. "Staff was nice but not enough staffing to keep amenities like pool open after 5 during the week. Upper showers were much better, no bugs and water was hotter. Heated spa/pool in upper area are a bonus," advises Beth B. about Spring Gulch Resort.
Recreation equipment: Some campgrounds provide recreational gear at no cost. "Lots of sports gear available for free to use within park, has to be returned by 5 when main office closes. Mini golf was fun but need to be regreened," notes Beth B.
Kid-friendly activities: Spring Gulch Resort Campground offers organized events. "We camped here over Memorial Day weekend and it was full. There was a craft show in the barn which was nice. Only two dump stations for a pretty large park," explains Jen R.
Arcade games: Look for campgrounds with indoor entertainment options for rainy days. "Their game room has tickets. This is the one and only campground we have ever visited that gave tickets for playing games and my kids LOVED IT! It was like camping and going to chuckie cheese at the same time," shares Melissa Y. about Pinch Pond.
Tips from RVers
Site selection strategy: Book sites away from common areas for more privacy. "The sites available are primitive or have water and electric and bathhouses/restrooms are located in a few spots around the park. Fire rings are at each site, but appear to get moved a lot," advises Phinon W. about Spring Gulch.
Navigating tight spaces: Many campgrounds present challenges for larger rigs. "For $80 bucks I expected more. The place is run down and almost feels abandoned. The ring in the pool suggests the water level has been low for a long time. The H sites are somewhat swampy," reports Felix S. about Robin Hill.
Water quality issues: Test water before connecting to RV systems. "Sites are swampy if they've had rain! Took us over two hours to disconnect because of mushy, muddy site! Our usual disconnect and set up time less than an hour," warns Linda F.
Seasonal site recommendations: RVers suggest avoiding certain areas during wet seasons. "Nice campground with a variety of campsites and a pretty good camp store. Most of the campsite options are fairly level, but are very rocky, so this is something to keep in mind if you are tent camping," explains Phinon W.
