    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

The Bolivar, Ohio area features multiple established campgrounds with a range of accommodation options from primitive tent sites to full-hookup RV spaces and rental cabins. Atwood Lake Park Campground, located near Mineral City, provides lakefront camping with modern amenities including full hookups, showers, and a swimming beach. Other notable options include Woods Tall Timber Resort in New Philadelphia and Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday, which offer cabin rentals alongside traditional camping. The Towpath Trail corridor provides several smaller camping areas specifically designed for cyclists and hikers exploring the historic Ohio & Erie Canal route.

Reservations are strongly recommended for most developed campgrounds in the region, particularly during summer weekends and holidays when sites fill quickly. The camping season generally runs from May through October, though some facilities like Canton/East Sparta KOA remain open year-round. Many campgrounds in the area feature lakeside or waterfront sites that tend to book well in advance. Primitive camping options along the Towpath Trail provide alternatives for those seeking simpler accommodations. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the region, with most campgrounds reporting good coverage for major carriers. One camper noted, "The Towpath Trail Peace Park is a charming roadside site within easy distance of Canton or Akron, definitely geared for primitive camping with only one site available for trailers or a small RV."

Waterfront access represents a significant draw for campers visiting the Bolivar area. Atwood Lake Park Campground receives consistently high ratings for its lake views and fishing access, with several campers highlighting the well-maintained facilities. The campground underwent significant renovations beginning in 2017, resulting in modern amenities and improved lakefront sites. For cyclists, the Towpath Trail camping areas offer unique opportunities to experience the historic canal corridor. As one reviewer described, "For those who have ever dreamed about the great hiking pilgrimages in Europe, the towpath trail is Ohio's answer for historically-rooted hiking." Noise levels vary significantly between campgrounds, with some visitors noting train and highway sounds at certain locations, while others report peaceful, quiet settings.

      Clay's Resort Jellystone Park

NO communication and severely lacking customer service skills

I won’t rate the other categories yet but I’ve been upset the whole process trying to plan my trip and the people have made it impossible. I’m constantly unable to get ahold of the park. I keep getting put on the“call back list” when trying to modify a reservation only for NO ONE to ever call back. I finally get ahold of someone after a MONTH… only to have zero customer service skills… they just said“oh we don’t even have a call list” so I ask for another form of communication I can have with me since my trip is in a month and I’ve had these issues for a month… they offer ZERO solutions and are not empathetic either. Another issue was last year I was hospitalized for several months due to an early twin birth so I had to push my trip to the following year… when I FINALLY got ahold of the park last year the women I spoke with trying to manage the rescheduling…was ZERO help surprise surprise… on top of that it took 13 calls and weeks before a manager got back to me…making the window to reschedule or get refunds closer to closing adding stress that you might not get to make your next move how you’d like… anyway…I simply asked for dates that matched the costs that we already paid for the trip so I didn’t have to pay more… I simply asked for it to be within the summer days since my previous reservation was during the summer time with all the extra water park and amenities that close at the end of August. I booked when my kid could use all amenities and there were no hour restrictions either due to still being in season. However the lady couldn’t accommodate or recommend any alternate dates to suite my trip that weren’t several hundred dollars more… now we started out with a trip all paid for last year with all amenities no hour restrictions to a weekend we had to pay more and are restricted hours wise on the summer amenities. As the person doing reservations you should be able to recommend dates and help me plan the trip accordingly to the money spent and not sit on the other end of the phone demanding I just give you dates…. After our trip we will never plan or schedule anything at this park again. Regardless of the amenities… for families traveling far distances you couldn’t make it anymore inconvenient, difficult, and time consuming for simply planning questions or just getting ahold of you in general. No sorrys…. Just a whole lot of…”hmm that’s weird well oh well, next” kind of attitude. Zero solutions just excuses. So that being first impressions not too excited to find out what we are in for when we arrive. Especially reading other reviews about deflated balls so you can’t use the hoops, broken a/c units that the property won’t even handle that their own employees have to give up their own personal comfort cause management won’t?… concession stands trash everywhere… broken hot tubs, WiFi not working in cabins for night time with children is tough…sad that my family’s first camping trip ever hasnt even happened yet and it’s been nothing but a headache to plan because of the staff. Yall make money to make the experience smooth for your consumers but somebody missed the memo.

Dyrt didn't pay for reservation, no refund

Caves is great campground. However they do not honor dyrt reservations. Had to pay at the campground. Sent email to dyrt, no reply. They owe me 400 dollars, and I have not heard back. Dyrt, if you honor, I will update this review- until then, DO NOT USE!!!

      Mohican Wilderness

      Return campers

We return to Mohican wilderness a few times each year and love the sites we choose right on the river.

Most sites here are wide open field sites and would not suite our style of camping.

      Bathrooms are typically clean.

Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area

Large Campground in the middle of nowhere

Many sites on the lake. Old facilities. It eas humid and had rained (thunder storm). Quiet. Typical eastern usa camping with thick canopy of trees, mosquitoes. Site 80 was more open, and on a cul de sac. Gravel pad with a 2-3 degree slant. Lots of critters about.

      Clay's Resort Jellystone Park

      Overpriced under managed. Great potential.

I have to agree with all the other reviews. It’s a great facility with a ton of potential it just seems poorly managed. The sites are not up to par with other campgrounds in the same price bracket nationwide. The staff does not have great attitudes and are put off being asked to assist. They say no scooters or electric bikes but there’s a thousand golf carts flying around because realistically it’s not a walkable park. They would benefit from a tram or trolley on busy weekends to go from camping areas to activities. Check-in was rough after hours especially trying to navigate to find your site is extremely difficult. We drug a few trees across the top of our unit. We were originate to have friends take us to our spot or we would not have found it until morning. Underwhelmed for the $180/night camp spot.

      Hidden Acres Campground

      Excellent campground

Friendly staff. Quiet campground sites. Extremely sociable neighbors. Participated in bingo. Has a great lake, fishing catch and release, and can rent a kayak. Nice size pool. Firewood is available. Highly recommend this campground.

      Valley Overlook

      Absolutely Wonderful

Absolutely a great spot for large private heavily wooded sites! Only primitive non electric site for roof top campers is C5! Others are park and walk or to small to open up and be comfy. Great cabins and yurts! Clean bathrooms and showers. Everything here is done online from reservation to buying wood and so Ice so prepare for that.

    What to do

Horseback riding adventures: Canton/East Sparta KOA Holiday - Bear Creek Ranch offers on-site horseback riding that's particularly popular with families. "Took the kids on the horse ride and they loved it. All staff were very friendly," reports Bradley B., while Lisa D. mentioned it's "Great family owned KOA. Horseback riding on site."

Water recreation activities: Atwood Lake Park Campground provides extensive water-based activities with boat docks positioned conveniently near waterfront campsites. Susan S. explains, "Docks available 50' from our waterfront lot. We could leave our camper, take the boat over to the beach and drop off the grandkids and me the Nana for swimming at the beach dock."

Zip lining thrills: Woods Tall Timber Resort features zip lining over their swimming lake for added excitement. Ashley S. describes the experience: "We have never experienced so much fun all in one place, from the clean swimming lake, to ziplining, to rv camping, and well kept bath houses."

    What campers like

Clean, modern bathroom facilities: Evergreen Park RV Resort maintains exceptionally clean bathroom facilities. Bob R. notes, "The bathrooms and showers are spotless and very private," while Beth G. adds, "Club house and pool are immaculate, including public restrooms and showers."

Waterfront sites with fishing access: Atwood Lake Park Campground receives praise for its lakefront locations. Susan S. raves, "Atwood lake is a true gem. Has everything you need. Brannon M. shares, "For those who have ever dreamed about the great hiking pilgrimages in Europe, the towpath trail is Ohio's answer for historically-rooted hiking." What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Some campgrounds have tightly packed sites. Doug K. reports about Evergreen Park RV Resort: "Very clean and nice campground. I only negative for me was the campsites are very close to each other." Jeffrey shares a similar experience at Amish Country Campsites: "Very small campgrounds literally next to if not part of a corn field, extremely cramped, back of our camper was 2ft from the camper behind us."

Water quality varies: Water quality can be inconsistent at some campgrounds. One visitor at Clay's Resort Jellystone Park noted, "The water smelled horrible, and both the shower head and faucet were caked with scum. My kids begged not to have to take a shower because of the smell."

Traffic and noise considerations: Some camping areas near Bolivar experience traffic noise. Regarding Towpath Trail Peace Park, Brannon M. cautions, "Joe let me know that the train passes through more frequently than some campers prefer. Also, if you're sensitive to road noise, you want to know that the road passes fairly closely to the campsites."

    Tips for camping with families

Look for designated swimming areas: Memory Park Campground offers peaceful sites with access to water. Zac C. shares, "We stayed in Cousins Cove. Everyone was raving about the newlyweds site so we walked over. That particular spot had a great fishing spot."

The people are friendly and there is always something to do!!"

Prioritize campgrounds with play areas: Some camping areas feature designated playgrounds. Fred R. notes about Atwood Lake Park, "Kids love the playgrounds and being able to bike or scoot all around. Shower house's are superb. Great fishing."

    Tips from RVers

Choose level sites carefully: RV sites vary in levelness across campgrounds. Chuck E. mentioned about Clay's Resort Jellystone Park, "I stayed on site LV27. Great location, but not even close to level. Seemed to be the only site with this issue."

Look for full hookup availability: Woods Tall Timber Resort accommodates larger RVs with proper hookups. Judy M. shares, "Such a beauty, even with a large RV we were accommodated. Lots of fun activities, and the trees are tall!" Traci B. adds, "Ohio has a lot of great campgrounds/resorts and this one is one of the best!"

Check for off-season operation: Evergreen Park RV Resort stays open year-round, making it suitable for winter camping. Andrea F. reports, "We camped here the second weekend in December and had the park mostly to ourselves. There were only 3 other campers there. The game room was nice as well as the indoor pool."
