Several RV campgrounds near Parkton provide full hookup options for motorhome travelers. Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in Abingdon offers 91 sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer connections on paved, level sites. Thousand Trails Circle M in Lancaster features pull-through sites with full hookups and accommodates large rigs, while Drummer Boy Camping Resort in Gettysburg provides big-rig friendly sites with 50-amp service from April through October. Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm in Dover has spacious sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, operating from April to late October. "The sites are level and covered in gravel, like all sites and roadways within the campground. Our site had full hookups, decent wi-fi, cable TV, a picnic table, fire ring, and nicely kept grassy area between sites."

Navigating into some parks requires careful planning, particularly for larger motorhomes. Several reviews mention tight turns and narrow roads at locations like Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country, where the campground appears to be situated on a sloping hillside. Most RV parks in the region offer dump stations, propane refill services, and laundry facilities. Cell service varies significantly—Verizon coverage ranges from "very good" at some locations to "weak but useable" at others. Pet policies differ between parks, with some offering designated dog areas while others impose restrictions. Winter camping options are limited, as most parks close between late October and early April. Advance reservations are essential during summer weekends and fall foliage season, with many parks requiring deposits and implementing strict cancellation policies.

      1. Drummer Boy Camping Resort

      4.1(8)31mi from ParktonRVs, Cabins

"There seem to be a lot of seasonal campers but everyone was extremely nice and welcoming. We had a pull-through site with W/S/E, which made dumping, etc much easier that pulling to a dump site."

"It’s a nice campground with a lot of amenities for all. Everyone whom I had contact with that had season sites were very friendly and provided some good info."

      2. Round Top Campground

      3.1(7)32mi from ParktonRVs, Cabins

"Off-season so not crowded. Pool was clean and quite good sized, had it to ourselves due to season. Did laundry while here, ample laundry room."

      3. Spring Gulch Resort Campground

      3.8(16)45mi from ParktonRVs, Cabins

"There was a craft show in the barn which was nice. Only two dump stations for a pretty large park. We would camp here again but not over a holiday."

"The campsites available are primitive or have water and electric and bathhouses / restrooms are located in a few spots around the park. Fire rings are at each site, but appear to get moved a lot."

      4. Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country

3.7(14)43mi from ParktonRVs, Tents, Cabins, Glamping

"The biggest downside to this particular campground is its very close proximity to the PA Turnpike, which while convenient, might detract a bit from the peace & quiet you might be expecting when here"

"Tucked into the rolling, wooded hills of Pennsylvania Dutch Country, Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country RV Resort offers a unique blend of peaceful countryside and activity-packed camping, all just a stone"

      5. Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm

      4.6(10)27mi from ParktonRVs, Cabins

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Artillery Ridge Campground

Great campsite. Fire pit, picnic table, swimming pool ( not open), miniature golf course, laundromat, bathrooms, showers, dump station, gathering areas for groups, playground, and even a horse area and stalls for horses. Dog friendly. Staff was very helpful and curious.

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

We booked two nights mid October not realizing that it's duck hunting season and that hunting is allowed RIGHT by the campground - with kids everywhere. We were jolted out of sleep at 5 am by gun fire right near our site. It kept up for the next hour. In addition, the bathrooms, although clean are in poor condition. Peeling paint everywhere with bare concrete in the showers. For such a pretty site, we had a miserable stay. We left after one night.

      Artillery Ridge Campground

Got us out of a jam.

Where we were camping had blown up their dump station. Artillery Ridge helped us out. $10. to dump. If we come to camp in Gettysburg, it will be hear.

      Codorus State Park Campground

      Hurricane camping

You just can't beat a pennsylvania park. This one is not an exception. Nice clean restroom, plenty of room. Now, what cost a star. Yes, it rained like hell. When we broke camp and go dump. The dump station was overflowing with sewer. Go to the guard shack to tell them, and find another site. None there. Can I go to an unused full hookup to dump? No! I would have to pay for the site. Two hours later, we found a place to dump for $10.

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

      Hosack Run

Quiet & Dog friendly - 20minutes from Gettysburg Battfields

This pet friendly campground in Caledonia State Park is .8 miles from the larger Chinquapin campground (no pets), ranger station and swimming pool. Our site #171 was level, paved, full hook ups and next to modern clean bathrooms with flush toilets, warm showers and outside dish washing sinks. Many available sites with and without services on a Sunday in October. There were a good number of friendly, tidy, long term campers with large wall tents. (They allow 21 day stays after Labor Day)

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

    Guide to Parkton

RV camping near Parkton, Maryland offers options for every style, from waterfront lots to farm-based settings. Located in the northern reaches of Maryland's Piedmont region at elevations ranging from 300-500 feet, this area experiences mild springs and colorful fall foliage. Most campgrounds operate from April through October, with limited winter availability at select locations.

    What to do

Farm animal interaction: Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm features a working farm where campers can interact with various animals. "We were there around Halloween and they had decorated the park so nicely. The sounds of the farm animals all around was fun and amusing for us. It was an easy hike as suggested on the map to circle around and through the cornfield, you get a great view of the farms nearby and the river," notes a reviewer.

Water recreation: At Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina, water activities dominate. "Camped here at the end of summer, really loved it. Had our kayaks with us and the water wasn't but a few steps away. Some sites you are right on the waters edge," shares one visitor. The campground offers fishing piers and boat slips for those bringing their own vessels.

Historical exploration: The Gettysburg area campgrounds provide convenient access to historical sites. "It's literally like a mile from downtown Gettysburg, which also has a lot of different things to do," reports a camper at Drummer Boy Camping Resort. Many campers use these grounds as a base for battlefield tours, museum visits, and historic town exploration.

    What campers like

Family activities: Thousand Trails Circle M earns praise for its variety of activities. "We happened to be there on the weekend a magician came, my kids loved it. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. Nice playground. We were down by the river and had a lot of room on our site," a reviewer comments. The campground offers planned events throughout the season.

Pool facilities: Many campgrounds in the region maintain both indoor and outdoor pool options for year-round swimming. At Spring Gulch Resort Campground, "Heated spa/pool in upper area are a bonus. Lots of sports gear available for free to use within park, has to be returned by 5 when main office closes."

Clean facilities: Bathhouses receive specific attention in reviews. "We used the bathhouses for our showers and they were much cleaner and better than others we've been in," notes a camper at Drummer Boy Camping Resort. Similarly, at Pinch Pond Family Campground, visitors appreciate that "the ENTIRE campground was extremely clean and tidy."

    What you should know

Seasonal closures: Most campgrounds in the Parkton area operate seasonally. Spring Gulch Resort is open "Mar 21 - Dec 1," while Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country runs "April 14 to October 29." Some properties like Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm operate from "April 11 to October 26."

Site leveling challenges: Uneven sites appear frequently in reviews of several campgrounds. At Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country, a visitor notes, "Unlevel is an understatement we were in E row and every camper there had front end 4 foot off the ground. Many other sites were the same." Similarly, Spring Gulch receives comments that "lots were a bit uneven, but pull through which was nice."

External noise factors: Some campgrounds have specific noise considerations. At Pinch Pond, "there's a shooting range near the property, so at all hours you will hear target practice going on, especially in the wee early hours." Similarly, PA Dutch Country experiences noise from "the nearby shooting range is incredibly loud."

    Tips for camping with families

Playground assessment: When choosing a family-friendly campground, check for playground quality and quantity. A visitor to Gettysburg Farm noted they "LOVED the animals and we fed them at the allotted time every morning and went to visit at other times. Beyond that though, we found there wasn't too much to do. There was a nice little store with hand dipped ice cream... There is also mini golf for a very small fee, though it was a little rough — covered in leaves and twigs."

Swimming options: Pools remain a key amenity for family campers. At Pinch Pond Family Campground, "unlike most campgrounds, the pool stayed open pretty late so that was a huge bonus for me." Some resorts offer multiple pool areas, as one visitor to Drummer Boy notes: "The pool with the slide was very clean."

Seasonal activities: Round Top Campground and other facilities organize themed weekends that appeal to families. "We were looking for a semi-local final fall get-a-way near us. What better location for that than Gettysburg... Like I mentioned above, we were there to relax but also to explore the town and battlefields."

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: RVers recommend arriving early at first-come, first-serve campgrounds. "Meaning you have to arrive early in order to get the best spots. They don't reserve sites for you. For everyone complaining about driving around and not finding spots, if you get there early enough around 1 pm, you won't have a problem," advises one RVer at Thousand Trails Hershey.

Access considerations: Some campgrounds have challenging entry roads. One reviewer warns, "You have to drive through a residential neighborhood to reach Bar Harbor, so big rigs take care/caution." Others note tight turns or narrow roads at various campgrounds in the region.

Hook-up placement: Utilities placement varies between campgrounds and can impact comfort. "The biggest complaint about our site was that the sewer hookup was inconveniently placed about six inches above the ground which meant that it would not drain properly," reports a camper at Drummer Boy Camping Resort. At Round Top, "Water and electric are in award spot on our site."
