Mature oaks and boulders give the Gettysburg / Battlefield KOA a more wooded feel than most franchise campgrounds in the region. Sites are laid out across gravel-covered ground with natural rock borders, and the overall grounds stay well-maintained throughout the operating season, which runs April 1 through November 1. The campground sits roughly 15 minutes from downtown Gettysburg, close enough for day trips to the national battlefield and back into town for restaurants and breweries.
Site selection matters here. Pull-through sites, including site 14, accommodate large rigs up to 85 feet with full hookups including 50-amp service, and several reviewers note these are significantly easier to navigate than the back-in sites. Campers report that sites 65 through 69 back up to a road where traffic noise can be disruptive, particularly at night, while sites tucked deeper into the wooded sections, like site 74, offer more separation. Windell S. notes that free WiFi reached even sites far from the office, though cell coverage on Verizon ran around two bars, with AT&T performing somewhat better.
The campground provides a range of on-site activities: a pool, mini golf, a playground, a small dog park, and a nature trail that runs through the woods from one end of the property to the other. Daily trash pickup is included, and the camp store carries basic supplies alongside Gettysburg-themed souvenirs. As barb C. puts it, there are "tons of activities and even a hiking path." Cabins are also available and sit higher on the property, providing more separation from the RV sections.
A few practical notes: not all standard sites include a fire ring, so campers who want one should confirm or book a premium site when reserving. After heavy rain, low-lying areas can collect standing water, and at least one reviewer needed staff assistance to free a camper that had sunk into saturated ground near the front of a site. Staff response was prompt in that case. Reservations are accepted and recommended, especially during peak summer weekends and Civil War reenactment events, when the campground fills quickly.
Campers wanting a different style of experience in the same corridor can also look at Granite Hill Camping Resort to the south or Gettysburg Campground to the east.
