Camping Gem Near the Battlefields

We had a great stay at Gettysburg/ Battlefield KOA Holiday in Gettysburg, PA.

We stayed in a level pull-thru site(#14) with deluxe picnic table, swinging Adirondack glider, and fire pit. The site was big enough for our motor home and Jeep. Full hook-ups with 50-amp service.

Lots of mature shade trees made the site more comfortable given the July heat. The paver patio with seating and natural landscaping with well-placed boulders made it quite comfortable.

Wow, what a great place to stay when visiting the town of Gettysburg and nearby battlefields.

From the escort to our site and friendly interactions with the staff, we immediately felt at home. The site was covered with clean gravel(which I like to keep sand and dirt outside), the camp store was well-stocked, the pool was inviting, the utilities all worked great, daily trash collection was convenient, immaculate landscaping, and a 2:00 PM check-out make this place a gem when visiting the Gettysburg area.

Just 15-minutes to historic sites, restaurants, and breweries.

Everything seemed clean and well-maintained.

Bottom Line: This is a great campground in a great location and we can’t wait to go back!

THINGS I ESPECIALLY LIKED:

1. Beautifully landscaped site

2. Well maintained and clean campground

3. Close to town of Gettysburg and battlefields

Clean wooded campground

This was a very clean and wooded campground. They have plenty of activities for the kids from swimming, mini golf, and a scavenger hunt! They also had live music one night! They just opened up a new pavilion and the camp store was very well stocked! Sites are also nice with a trex picnic table and a trex gliding love seat! The campground was just minutes from downtown Gettysburg.

Campground was clean, quiet. Staff was super friendly, campers too. There was a big rock in our campsite that created an obstacle but we managed and wound up thinking it was scenic.

Decent stay

Sites look to be semi private in alot of pictures but that isnt the case. We had a full hook up with our 15ft travel trailer. Pretty tight even with my Tacoma. Playground was nice.

Site did not have a fire ring/ cooking grate. Just a pile of rocks. This is a bare minimum IMO but the office said you need a premium site for that lol.

Had a great time with the family in Gettysburg. Definitely going back just not sure if we will be staying at the KOA or not…

Great place!

I have stayed here once in a tent and once in a camper. Very private sites! The privacy makes it tight getting the camper in, but we were met at the entrance by a host and he lead us to our site and helped back in! The campground was a clean and located close to the battlefield. We stayed during reenactment weekend and the campground had a lot of family activities. The camp store has cute souvenirs and odds and ends. The night before we left there was a terrible rain storm! Poured buckets of rain!! The road looked like a river, which unfortunately flowed directly under the front part of my camper. The problem this caused is the front of the camper sank, so when we went to leave in the morning I could lift the camper high enough to get on the truck hitch. The office sent people to help right away with blocks and a jack. We were on the road in no time. Great service, friendly people and clean quiet place! Will be back!

Awesome campground while exploring Gettysburg Battlefield!

We couldn't have been more pleased with this campground! The usual variety of sites, back-in and pull through, 50/30/20 amp service with full hookups.  Cable has the usual channels, about 20, available for $2.00 per night.  WIFI is free and we had good service, even though we were quite far from the office.  The site was level and needed no additional blocking, a fire pit and picnic table with ample outdoor sitting room.  A wooded setting gave plenty of shade and lent to the atmosphere of having more room than we actually did.  Located about 4 miles from town it is far enough for that country feel but close enough to be convenient.  The camp store was well stocked with basic needs as was the gift shop.  Trash is picked up daily, just leave it at the entrance to your site when you leave in the morning.  Cell service wasn't the best, Verizon had about 2 bars.  I can't say enough good things about the staff, from check-in and being escorted to our site with help backing in to filling up the propane on the way out everyone was courteous and helpful.  We felt secure at all times, and noticed a staff member frequently driving through on a golf cart.  A dog playground, kiddie playground, pool, putt putt, and other activities for the family.  All in all a very positive experience and a definite thumbs up for this campground!!

Wooded retreat

We stayed in a lovely cabin here while I was in town for work. My husband enjoyed the pool with the kids during the day and when I was there we enjoyed shuffleboard, mini golf and hiking together. The cabin was clean and well maintained and the cabins are at the top of the hill but that made for a beautiful view and we felt like we were away from everyone else. I wasn't as fond of the camper sites they seemed kind of close together but the cabins were amazing.

Great Campground!

We had a long weekend ( 4 day/3 night) stay here. The staff was nice and helpful with finding the your site and guiding in vehicles. The staff also drove through periodically checking on things. The campground is about a 5 minute drive to downtown Gettysburg.

The campsites were all a very good size with nice fire-pits. Very well maintained. The bathroom/showers were very clean as well , and individual units for privacy. The wifi was spotty, but that is to be expected. The cable was great on the HD channels and crustal clear. AT&T cell service was pretty good. Verizon cell service was a little spotty depending on my location in the campground.

This was a great experience overall and one of the best KOA’s we have been too. We will definitely return here for future visits!

Beautiful campground with great location

Well this is day 5 of my trip to Washington DC.  Entire grounds are well manicured with plenty of room.  Nice stocked store with a friendly staff. Upon check in you are escorted to your site and oriented to all hookups etc.  lots of shade.  Sites fairly level.  Close to downtown areas with good shopping and ghost tours.  Today celebrates day 1 of the battlefield so many people are dressed in 1860s attire.  Site offers tours if desired.  Otherwise the battle field is only 5 miles away

Lots of space

Spent 2 nights at Gettysburg KOA in July while touring Pennsylvania with granddaughter. Very convenient to historical stuff. Large sites, separated by rocks and trees. Quiet and private. It is a KOA, so was pleasantly surprised.

Beautiful campground!

Smaller campground, but big on amenities!

Staff was friendly, attentive and the Campground is extremely well-cared for. Sites vary in sizes and are well-defined. They have a great camp store and their mini-golf was just remodeled and a lot of fun to play. In addition to that, there is a bounce pad, shuffle board, horseshoes, chess, over-sized jenga, playground, dog park, gem mining, basketball, bikes, wood, propane, etc. and they pick up trash daily right at your site. All of this in a beautiful wooded spot near Gettysburg.

I highly recommend!

Clean, well-maintained, more woodsy than other KOAs

We stayed in site #68, to the left when you enter the campground. We were in the water/electric section, and saw mostly other pop-ups, smaller RVs, and a few tents in our area. Our site was very spacious, beautifully landscaped and wooded, but right next to the road. There was a buffer of trees, but unfortunately that didn’t make much of a difference with regard to noise. I live adjacent to a busy local highway, and the noise was worse here at the CG, even though this road seemed like a smaller, rural road. There were vehicles loudly whizzing by at all hours of the day and night, which made it pretty hard to relax and enjoy nature, but since this was more of a “glamping” weekend vs a “real camping” weekend for us, I didn’t let it bother me too much. However, if we were to return, we would definitely avoid sites 65 through 69, as they all back up to that same road. Site 74 in the same section caught my eye as being very private, tucked away, and backing up to thick woods, so I would request that site in the future. The whole water/elec section was a bit further from the bath house than we usually like to be with little kids, but not a deal-breaker of a walk by any means.

Bath house was decent. Showers were very nice and looked like they’d been updated recently, but the overall bathroom earned about a B- for cleanliness. It was kept reasonably tidy (other than the trash overflowing on one occasion), and the countertops stayed wiped off, but the whole bathroom (minus the showers) just seemed a bit old, drab, and didn’t smell great. I know it’s a bathroom, but this wasn’t a one-time smell; it persisted throughout all 4 days of our stay.

What impressed me most about this CG was the landscaping and use of natural surroundings. There are tons of really nice boulders everywhere, bordering each site and most of the fire rings. The grounds are also very green and wooded, so it really does look and feel like a natural, rustic setting - much more so than any other KOA I’ve visited. You can tell the owners take pride in maintaining the grounds and natural elements. All of the roads and sites were paved(?) with really nice gravel, and you can tell they put a lot of effort into maintaining that, as well. Another highlight was the nature trail, which was a surprisingly challenging, rocky trail that leads up through the woods from one end of the CG to the other. It wasn’t like hiking Everest or anything, of course, but it definitely felt like a real, scenic hike for a family with little kids, and we felt like we had gotten our workout in afterward.

Concerning the surrounding area, you’ll never lack for things to do in Gettysburg. Obviously, the national battlefield is a must-do. I’m not a history buff by any means, but I really enjoyed the auto tour, and was taken aback at how vast and beautiful the battlefield is, with varying scenery. The actual town of Gettysburg is very cute, crowded during peak season, and offers all sorts of dining options, entertainment, and historical attractions. Any service (gas, groceries, medical, shopping) you need can be easily found in the area.

Overall, the was a very nice, well-maintained little CG and probably my favorite KOA I’ve visited to date. The expert use of landscaping to incorporate the natural, wooded setting really made a great impression on us. We wouldn’t hesitate to return for one of our “glamping” weekends!
