Historic Fall Get-A-Way

We were looking for a semi-local final fall get-a-way near us. What better location for that than Gettysburg. We defaulted to RoundTop Campground since a majority of campgrounds in the area were booked at the time of our planning. No disparagement to RoundTop. I would guess the main reason for that being - it's the campground furtherest out from town but not by much. The drive in and out was never an issue or annoyance.

I would say the RoundTop is your average woodland campground. Your standard bells and whistles without too much extra fluff. I would assume the main purpose for most non-permanent visitors is to explore the battlefields and not spend too much time with campground amenities. With that said, we fond everything we needed or looked for as far as amenities, to be up to expectations.

Our site was clean and wooded. We had friendly couples from out of state on either side of us. Florida and New Hampshire. My only con (this is minor) about the site would be the picnic table SEATS had cloth coverings on them that held moisture. Not sure the reason someone thought that might be beneficial?? Made the table somewhat unusable at times.

Like I mentioned above, we were there to relax but also to explore the town and battlefields. Again the drive into town was short and had enough road side visuals to keep you from dwelling on the drive. There was also zero traffic (it was late October).

A list of things we did while staying at RoundTop:

  • Battlefield audio tour
  • Nighttime walking ghost tour
  • Battlefield Brew Works
  • Visited shops around the square
  • Mr Ed's

Tight spots, but great location near Gettysburg!

The best thing about this Thousand Trails campground is it’s proximity to Gettysburg and all attractions! The Campground is old and a bit rundown. Sites are small and tight and some are at strange angles. They do have FHU and 30/50 amp. There are many amenities and a large swimming pool which is great for families. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We would stay here again if visiting the area.

Overcrowded is a understatement!

Wife and I decided to use this campground as our “maiden voyage” in our new TT. This campground was close to home for us and we were just looking to get our feet wet. Booked online and arrived to find our site was between a cabin and large seasonal/permanent trailer. While the site was shaded, it was also on a significant hill and had NO view of anything but other seasonal campers. We went for the w/s/e/c 30 amp site. Everything worked as it should and we got about 15 channels on the cable hookup. Septic dump was about 20 feet away and we had to use a extension to get to it. Sweat bee’s were almost unbearable at times. So you better bring the bug spray. Site came with a table and fire ring. Public shower areas on the lower end of the campground were closed.

The good parts of the trip were definately the pool. It was clean and roomy. We enjoyed hours hanging out there. They had activities for kids. Everyone seemed to be polite and helpful as far as the staff was concerned. We used the laundry facilities and they were clean. The camp store was big, but definately not stocked to the capacity it could have been.

Giving it 3 stars because we really enjoyed the pool and getting our feet wet with our new TT. But this was a very crowded place and the site we had wasn’t very appealing.

We would probably not Re-visit this campground. It was just local for us!

Happy Camping Folks!

Not worth the money

We paid $675 for 8 days It was to include W,E,S, and cable

Electric went out 3 times, once for over 24 hrs. It was in the high 90° The sewer consisted of a storage tank less than 10 ft from our picnic table. It stunk. There was no cable Site was unlevel and poorly maintained The pool was shut down do to the pump breaking.

Would never stay the again
