Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina in Abingdon provides 91 full hookup sites with both 30 and 50 amp electric options. The paved sites are positioned close together, some directly on the water's edge with views of Bush River. Most spaces accommodate big rigs with pull-through access available. Nearby, Thousand Trails parks in Pennsylvania offer seasonal RV camping from April through late October with varying hookup configurations and spacious sites. Several parks feature gravel pads that may require leveling blocks during wet weather. "Sites are on top of each other. Water hookup access was on the ground. It was raining and the area was saturated with no where to drain," noted one Bar Harbor visitor.

Throughout the region, RV parks maintain different operating seasons, with many closing between November and March. Campgrounds within 40 miles of Forest Hill provide varying levels of amenities - some offer laundry facilities, propane filling stations, and on-site stores while others maintain a more basic setup. Many parks implement strict pet policies with designated walking areas. Cell service is generally reliable across the area, making remote work possible from most locations. Advance reservations are essential, particularly for waterfront sites which command premium rates. Several campgrounds feature gated security, with access roads occasionally running through residential neighborhoods that may present navigation challenges for larger motorhomes.

      Country Acres Campground

      Lovely campground!

Country Acres is a lovely, well maintained campground. Sites are level and bath house facilities clean and modern. Friendly staff in the office. Dog friendly. Local to all the Lancaster attractions. A complimentary farmland tour is offered by bus and it was great. They take you out into an area of Amish farms and shops and make a stop at 2 of these. The fresh Amish pretzels are amazing!

      Artillery Ridge Campground

Great campsite. Fire pit, picnic table, swimming pool ( not open), miniature golf course, laundromat, bathrooms, showers, dump station, gathering areas for groups, playground, and even a horse area and stalls for horses. Dog friendly. Staff was very helpful and curious.

Greenbelt Park Campground — Greenbelt Park

Close to washington as we could get. Could also park our skoolie bus which was nice and had plenty of close by shower with bathrooms. Keep in mind only one shower per restroom house. We stayed at a pretty slow season so it wasn’t bad. Would recommend if visiting DC! They also have a dump station and water fill up.

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

We booked two nights mid October not realizing that it's duck hunting season and that hunting is allowed RIGHT by the campground - with kids everywhere. We were jolted out of sleep at 5 am by gun fire right near our site. It kept up for the next hour. In addition, the bathrooms, although clean are in poor condition. Peeling paint everywhere with bare concrete in the showers. For such a pretty site, we had a miserable stay. We left after one night.

      Codorus State Park Campground

      Hurricane camping

You just can't beat a pennsylvania park. This one is not an exception. Nice clean restroom, plenty of room. Now, what cost a star. Yes, it rained like hell. When we broke camp and go dump. The dump station was overflowing with sewer. Go to the guard shack to tell them, and find another site. None there. Can I go to an unused full hookup to dump? No! I would have to pay for the site. Two hours later, we found a place to dump for $10.

      Old Mill Stream Campground

      Never Again

The advertisements for Olde Mill Campground were disingenuous. The campsite was 20 yards from a roller coaster. The NOISE of the roller coaster and children on it screaming was as relentless and unnerving as any train we have ever slept near. There was no quiet until almost midnight. The “pull-through” site left my truck almost in the road and our 25’ Airstream slightly over the road on the backside. The site was not level. The sites were close enough to hear a neighbor’s snoring.

      Beacon Hill Camping

      Great location

We stayed here to go to the Hershey RV show—about 55 min drive. Right in the center of Amish country. Campground is adults only. It was very clean. The bathrooms were very clean with great water pressure. The roads are tight for getting into sites. Site 5 was not level side to side. We met great people there.

    Guide to Forest Hill

Seasonal campgrounds near Forest Hill, Maryland occupy a region of mixed woodlands and farmland with average rainfall of 42 inches annually. Most facilities operate from April through October, with mid-summer temperatures averaging 85-90°F. Winter closures affect 75% of area RV parks, limiting year-round options within a 40-mile radius.

    What to Do

Fishing access points: At Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina, waterfront sites allow direct fishing access. "Beautiful water front sites and good location right off 95. Cute little dock, fishing from your campsite if waterfront and an area to put in small boats or kayaks," notes Casey L. Some sites permit fishing directly from your chair.

Historical tours: The Gettysburg battlefield lies approximately 25 miles from Thousand Trails Gettysburg Farm, making it ideal for history enthusiasts. "This was a fast favorite! We were there around Halloween and they had decorated the park so nicely. The sounds of the farm animals all around was fun and amusing for us," writes Mary H.

Water recreation: At Lake-In-Wood Campground, the fishing pond provides freshwater angling opportunities. "Huge pond for fishing, miniature gold, nice indoor and outdoor pool and a kiddie pool," reports Jen R. The campground maintains stocked waters accessible to all guests.

    What Campers Like

Proximity to cities: Bar Harbor RV Park positions campers strategically for urban day trips. "It's located about 40 min. from Baltimore Harbor, Ravens and Orioles stadiums. Bel Air is 20 min. away and has several restaurants," explains Laure D., highlighting convenient access to metropolitan amenities.

Farm animal interactions: Thousand Trails Circle M offers recreational activities beyond standard camping. "Lots of events to keep the kids busy. We happened to be there on the weekend a magician came, my kids loved it. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. Nice playground," reports Leanne B.

Waterfront settings: Multiple campgrounds feature river or lake access points. "We were down by the river and had a lot of room on our site," notes Leanne B. about Circle M. These waterfront locations provide cooling breezes during summer months when temperatures frequently exceed 85°F.

    What You Should Know

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds close between November and March. Spring Gulch Resort Campground operates from "Mar 21 - Dec 1," offering one of the longer seasons in the region. Plan accordingly as winter camping options become extremely limited.

Site levelness concerns: Many campgrounds feature sloping terrain requiring leveling equipment. "Sites are pretty uneven. Not just the one we're on but others as well. The campground is pretty hilly and they don't seem to want to level out the sites," reports Sammii D. about one Pennsylvania campground.

Water hookup placement: Hookup configurations vary significantly between parks. "Water was rusty in our row came out brown at first then was tan after running through our filter for the entire stay," notes Justin B. about one facility. Always bring adequate hose lengths to accommodate different hookup locations.

    Tips for Camping with Families

Pool availability: Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country offers swimming facilities that remain open seasonally. "The Campground itself has tons of amenities from a pool, kids and adult lounges, basketball court, mini golf, ice cream in the store, a store and hiking trails," writes Sammii D., highlighting recreational options.

Playground considerations: Facilities vary greatly between parks. "In a campground that size I would expect at least 2 playgrounds. For the price I paid per night ($110) I expected better all around," notes Chelsea about one campground, emphasizing the importance of researching specific amenities.

Animal attractions: Several campgrounds offer farm animal encounters. "Got a kick out of the children playing with the kids (baby goats) pigs, goats, chickens, horses and even lamas. Plenty to see and learn. Prefect campground for the family," observes Robert M. at Gettysburg Farm.

    Tips from RVers

Navigation challenges: Approach routes to several rv campgrounds near Forest Hill, Maryland involve residential areas. "You have to drive through a residential neighborhood to reach Bar Harbor, so big rigs take care/caution," advises Craig Z. Consider reviewing satellite imagery before arrival.

Leveling requirements: Many campgrounds feature uneven sites requiring substantial blocking materials. "Unlevel is an understatement we were in E row and every camper there had front end 4 foot off the ground. Many other sites were the same," reports Justin B. Bring extra leveling blocks to accommodate significant elevation changes.

Utility positioning: Hookup placement varies considerably. "Water hookup access was on the ground. It was raining and the area was saturated with no where to drain," notes one reviewer. Bring extended sewer hoses and water lines to accommodate unusual hookup configurations.
