Penobscot Bay is the deepest body of water in the Gulf of Maine…and I live at its shores with my husband Steven, father Zaven, a flock of sheep and goats, three hives of honey bees, extensive gardens and lots of space to make art and good food.

Together we run a family campground that was established in 1965 and steward the land…we provide a place for people to come and relax, wander through the organic gardens, explore the beach and re-connect with themselves and others. We’re proud to be part of the working waterfront of Maine where recreation, fishing and shipping ply the same waters and provide a sense of purpose for all sorts of people.

A tranquil site in open and blossoming blueberry barrens, come later in the summer to pick your own fresh off the vine! This location is relatively remote- a(in parts really) rough dirt road leads to my property which comprises 12 acres surrounded by/looking across hundreds of acres of other family members' blueberry barrens- perfect for those wanting a private and peaceful retreat! Beautiful views of Blue Hill mountain, great sun(and sometimes moon!) rises and sunsets, and your own personal planetarium on clear(best on the new moon) nights! On the same road as(5 min from) Kingdom Woods Conservation Area(800 acre area with peaceful trails and a pond), 10 minutes from Blue Hill town center and its amenities(YMCA- hot showers, Tradewind's/Coop supermarkets,) and nature mountain(hiking!) and its Bay(swimming!), 20-30 minutes from Holbrook Island Sanctuary, the historic Castine waterfront, the quaint finishing villages of Deer Isle and Stonington, and 45 minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park! Discover Downeast Maine away from the crowds, at your very own quiet blueberry base!

The Firewarden's Trail (4.6 miles) intersects the Appalachian Trail at Bigelow Col (the lowest point between two peaks) and provides the shortest route to Avery Peak or West Peak from the south side of the Bigelow Range. Follow Stratton Brook Pond Road 0.4 mile east to Stratton Brook, the outlet of the pond, and another 0.4 mile east to the fork. Take the north fork (left) 0.3 miles to the old trailhead clearing. The trail bears northeast along an old tote road and ascends gradually 1.2 miles until the Horn's Pond Trail diverges left. Moose Falls Campsite is located about 1 mile further up the Firewarden's Trail. Shortly after this the trail ascends steeply for the last 0.7 mile until the Firewarden's Trail ends at the Bigelow Col (3815').
