Within Rangeley Lake State Park, this 50-site campground provides access to one of Maine's most popular fishing lakes through both drive-in and boat-in options. Managed by the Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands, the facility operates seasonally from May through October with sites accommodating RVs up to 40 feet.
The campground maintains a reputation for cleanliness and organization. Kelsey K. describes it as a "safe, clean campground with a peaceful vibe," while multiple reviewers highlight the quality of the shower facilities. The bathhouse features individual rooms with full amenities, though the push-button shower system requires frequent activation during use.
Most sites offer privacy through natural tree spacing, with several positioned close enough to glimpse the lake through the forest. Kayaking and canoeing dominate the recreational scene here—so much so that one camper noted feeling like "we missed a golden opportunity" without watercraft. The lake provides swimming access, and the park connects to hiking trails and scenic overlooks. Cell service works reliably for both AT&T and Verizon users.
Access involves navigating what some reviewers characterize as rough roads, particularly after weather events. Sites closer to the water may experience seasonal standing water issues, though interior sites like #5 remain dry. The campground offers electric and water hookups, a dump station, and firewood sales on-site. Rangers provide helpful local information and maintain a visible presence throughout the facility.
Campers seeking lake access for paddling and fishing find this location well-suited to their needs, though those preferring direct waterfront sites may want to explore campgrounds around Rangeley Lake State Park for additional shoreline options.
Description
Rangeley Lake State Park encompasses 869 acres in the heart of Maine's Western Mountains. Visitors enjoy hiking, picnicking, camping, wildlife watching, photography, and winter sports, as well as the long-established traditions of fishing and hunting. The lake's cool, clear waters stretch nine miles and support world-famous populations of landlocked salmon and trout (sustained through a strong commitment to catch-and-release practices). Four wheeling and snowmobiling are popular pursuits in the Rangeley area (outside the park), with many trails available. The campground at Rangeley Lake State Park has 50 well-spaced sites close to the lakeshore - where a beach offers commanding views of Saddleback Mountain. There's a picnic area, playground, and a trailerable boat launch with finger docks for both day visitors and campers.
