Lamoine State Park, managed by Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands, sits on Frenchman Bay roughly 30 minutes from Acadia National Park, giving campers access to that region without the congestion that fills Bar Harbor-area campgrounds through summer. The park runs from mid-May through mid-October, and the layout follows a gentle slope from a grassy upper tier down toward the water. Sites near the top get more sun and tend to suit RVs better, while the lower sites sit in heavier shade with open sightlines across the bay.
Site quality varies noticeably. Many sites are not level, which matters for RV campers who should plan for significant leveling work. The maximum RV length is 35 feet, and there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups at any site. A dump station sits near the entrance, and water faucets are distributed throughout the campground. Two non-reservable sites sit directly on the bay and are worth asking about at check-in. LoneCamper C. called the park "way ahead of both Camden Hills and Cobscook with regard to cleanliness and upkeep," and multiple reviewers consistently flag the bathhouse, which includes flush toilets and showers, as well-maintained.
The park has a day use area and a public boat launch that works for kayak put-ins. Grills along the bayfront are available for charcoal use. In the evenings, the dock draws activity as fishing boats come in. A short drive from the campground reaches Lamoine Beach, a rocky shoreline with shells worth combing through. Hadley's Point Campground is another option in the area for campers comparing sites along this stretch of coast.
Reservations are available and recommended for waterfront sites in July and August. Midweek stays in early fall tend to see lighter crowds and more site availability. Foggy mornings are common; the marine layer usually clears by mid-morning. Pets are allowed throughout the campground. The location puts Ellsworth about 20 minutes away for resupply, and the drive back from Acadia after dark involves winding roads, so that's worth factoring into evening plans.
