Perfect for the night

Covered pavilion with a view of the lake. We happened on it thru Dyrt on our way out to Yellowstone and it fit our needs exactly. Close to I-70, but you felt away from everything. Highly recommend.

Good travel stop

If you are traveling through and need a place to stop for the night, this is a nice little spot. Owners are friendly and helpful. Full hook ups, 50 and 30 amp, pull through and back in. Small campground with no public showers or bathrooms, no WiFi but good ATT cell service.

Peaceful and clean

We stayed 5/4-6/21. Had a great time watching the geese. We don't fish but others looked like they were having some success. No electricity or water. Clean latrines. Close to town. Found a dump station in town. Close to Tallgrass Nature Preserve. Beautiful falls at the east end of the dam. Love…

Not a bad site in the entire campground!

General: Canning Creek is one of six camping areas operated by the US Army Corp of Engineers on Council Grove Lake. It is spread out on the lake so that all but four sites- 24, 26, 27& 28 (and the group camping areas) are directly on the water. Even though there were only a handful of…

Primitive camping was small and exposed, but fun

The fivestar loop is decent for tent camping. The sites were fairly small and jammed next to each other, and half of them didn't have great tree cover, but they all have a nice firepit and picnic table.  It was super duper windy off of the lake for us, so be ready for wind.  Bathrooms were nice and…

For no frills stop this is really great. Right on the water. We only saw one campsite and it was occupied.

Secluded

This is a COE campground. Check in with the gate house if you don’t have a reservation. They will have you drive around to pick your site. Many sites are on the banks of the reservoir. Once you pick your site and drop your trailer or gear go back gate house to give them site number and pay.…

Everything you need is here

This was one of our favorite Kansas State Parks. At the end of May, it was almost empty. We had our pick of sites. We got a prime tree shaded spot on the water. In fairness, most sites are on the water or have a water view. Spectacular sunsets.

There was only 1 small bath house open while we…

Great campground

Great campground really enjoy the large and shady sites. I also like how they put boat docks behind all of the lake side sites. The swim area is nice but often crowded on the weekends. This campground has both 50 and 30 amp sites. All of the 50 amp sites are on the inner loop and all of the lake…

Quick and easy

Quick, easy, and inexpensive stay right off the interstate. Water and electric on site and easy pull through parking spots. Clean bathroom and shower. Not very quiet considering the interstate is right next to it.

Quick and easy stay

It was super easy to pull off the highway and stay for the evening. We called late, about 11pm and they were great over the phone and just had a slip we filled out the next morning. I wasn’t sure where to bathrooms were and it was late so it was hard to find where they were. There was road noise…

Payne Rv park has 18 full hook up sites and is located outside of Newton. It is perfect for a night but not a lot to see otherwise. The fee is $20 per night and you pay across the road. The sites are gravel, pull they, and have 50/30/20 amp. Pets are allowed and our cell service was full bars.
