Ottawa Lake’s campground is located in the southern unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest, situated within half an hour’s drive from Milwaukee. Wisconsin campers of all ages love these grounds thanks to lakefront sites, modern facilities, and access to trails for hikers of every experience level. South Kettle Moraine is also home to over 160 miles of trails, including 87 miles open to horse use. Connect to the Ice Age Scenic Trail and various others within the John Muir and Emma Carlin trail systems. Don’t forget to bring your rods when camping at Ottawa Lake! You’ll want to take full advantage of the boat dock and fishing pier where you can catch panfish, walleye, muskie, trout, bass, and northern pike – then you can grill them up at your campsite. Keep in mind, motorboats are not permitted on this small lake, which allows for peaceful wading and quieter camping all around. Though Ottawa Lake is open year-round, it is recommended to check the weather in Dousman and Whitewater before planning trips in the colder months, as freezing temperatures and snow are common. Cold-weather campers who are willing to brave the Wisconsin winter will enjoy snowmobile trails, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. No matter when you visit, Ottawa Lake will leave you satisfied.

    cant wait to go back

I ended up here because I was going to a music festival in the area, and they turned me away because I have a service animal. I wasn't going to do all that work for nothing and just go home, so I decided to look up my nearest campground and it was KOA in Milton. they made me feel welcome. they understood my dilemma. it was a wonderful weekend. lots of amenities and I just absolutely can't wait to go back next year. I'm going to try to make it a couple times. so much fun, just me and my dog. And one last the thing, my fellow campers were more than hospitable and very nice and I appreciate that very much.

    Remote backpacking Shelter 1

Great backpack camp site. Decent walk and terrain to get to the site. There is an open shelter to put your tent if you prefer to outside. There is a fire pit, but we found our own wood around the site. (Bring a small axe). There is an outhouse, but I wouldn’t recommend using it. There is a picnic table and a bench. It’s very secluded for privacy :) we will definitely be back.

    Great Family Campground!

Site was spacious but very close to your neighbors. Lots to do in the area. Bathrooms and showers were clean. The beach was not clean and very hard to walk on, very rocky. Electricity on site and water near by. Great trails close by.

Stopped for one night but will come back again

We rented a pull thru site for the evening since we came into the Dells for a wedding. The campground offered a variety of activities for kids which was something that would draw us back to the campground again. The sites for RVs are spaced nicely so you don’t feel like you’re right on top of another RV. Good sized sites too. Grounds appeared well taken care of. Staff was very friendly upon arrival. Will definitely come back again. Only draw back is the price, but everything is pricey in the Dells. WiFi is spotty and Verzion cell service isn’t “good” as stated.

Great spot for hiking Kettle Moraine

Campsites are kept up and quite clean. Some have a beautiful view of lake. Some water fountains did not work, however sinks were always working. So many little trails all throughout the campsite. Family friendly (parks, beach, pet friendly)

    The Playful Goose Campground

    Insert Terrible Adjective

The Good: Campsites along the river looked really nice. The Bad: We had a 3 day holiday weekend booked for tent camping.Unfortunately the weather did not hold up and our site was completely soaking wet- we could not even steak out our tent. The owner of the campground denied a refund due to policy. The amount of rules and regulations this camp ground has is absolutely absurd. The Ugly: When checking into our site, the woman working the desk was efficient but things took a bad turn really quick. 1. If you book on the Playful Goose website you will get charged a% service fee, which The Playful Goose Staff does not stand behind. 2. If you book on the Playful Goose website you must specify how many nights, adults and tents per site. Without too many logistics, we ended up paying over$220 for a weekend JUST TO CAMP IN HORICON. While trying to set up camp in the rain, a male(we were told he was the assistant manager) in a golf cart drove near our site yelling vulgar language, accusing our group of doing things to the grass(when the grass was a swamp to begin with due to weather) and lastly, as the man was driving away he continued to make harassing comments. The lack of professionalism, courtesy and respect from staff was unacceptable as a paying guest. Playful Goose Takeaway: I will never spend my hard earned money here. Again. And be sure to tell everyone I know to not spend their hard earned money here either. There are so many other beautiful camp grounds within a 100 mile radius and this one will be my last choice. Such a shame this wonderful campground I used to visit has gone down hill.

    Decent Family Campground (5/3/2024)

It’s a family friendly and decent campground. Sites are not too secluded, but they’re clean and well taken care of, the facilities weren’t clean, they have volunteer hosts on site for any needs, the lake is beautiful during the sunset, sandy area and playground for kids, car noise is noticeable but not too loud (in the inner camp sites). Few trails around for hiking. They charge an extra $11 for each car’s entry at the gate but you can use the car pass for visiting all the state park’s trails around the area (you need permit for parking at the trailheads). It’s good for family with kids or beginner campers, but not if you’re looking for a relaxing or adventurous time.

    Crazy Horse Campground

Used to be a great place to camp

Unfortunately, I can no longer say this is a great, affordable place to stay. The weekly rates increased by over $75 a week for the full hookup sites this season.

There was also a link to last years pricing still active until 4/16 that has since been deactivated when I asked to have my pricing adjusted to that amount. Seems deceptive to me, having 2 different prices in 2 different places on their site.  They will not honor the price and told me if I don't like it I can find somewhere else to camp.

Also, they no longer offer kayaks, which was the big draw to the campground.

We may keep our reservation this year, but likely won't be back next season.

    Fun Oktoberfest celebration, clean park

We arrived after 5pm and were able to find out camp spot easily with the reservation email. Everyone was super friendly and there was a little Oktoberfest celebration going on with some families a few sites down. The bathrooms were alright, and there was a fire pit and picnic table at our site which was great. The walking trails are nice and there’s a volleyball net and little playground too.

    Not Teen Family Friendly

I would love to say we'd recommend Fox Hill as we've been here for family reunions for the last 4 years (after my husband growing up coming here). But after experiencing "the owner's mom" yelling at my teen playing at the playground, l'll have to pass and suggest a new family reunion location.

For what it's worth: I was standing chatting with family as my son was on the seesaw. If she disliked him playing on it, there's an appropriate way to speak to: a. Children (who are worthy of respect) b. Customers. Screaming at them and aggressively speaking to the parents is a bad way to run a business.

I was more than willing to overlook the increased prices year over year, the less than great bathrooms, + smoking at the new arcade (which is open randomly at best)..but absolutely unwilling to overlook the way people are treated. Hopefully a discussion is had moving forward so other teens feel welcome to be outside + play amongst their far younger cousins.

Great place full of trees and well kept

This place was the best on our trip so far. We were here for a couple nights. The pool was great (from 3-4 it’s adult swim, so the kids had to get out). The sites were very clean and it’s only about 40 minutes from Milwaukee. They have a ton of things to do for the family like a baseball backstop, sand volleyball, horse shoes, a playground etc.

Nice state park near enough to the main road

These sites are separated by plenty of vegetation giving you good privacy. Water and restrooms are nicely distributed. The garbage bin is on the way out of the campground. The office was empty when we arrived. The way to get a site is through their website or calling. We didn’t have enough service for the website so we talked with a helpful agent. We didn’t have much time to explore the campground but we did have a nice walk around the outer loop of sites. This is near the main highway and a nice place to camp.

    Trip #2- Post Malone

Campsite 65- Rita, the mgr/owner, returned call to assist in selecting a site. The outer lanes had shade, while our site was in the middle open area. Easy access to electric and/or water. If unsure, contact office. Site, restrooms, and showers were clean. There are a lot of sites but still felt like there was ample space. Great location to visit Lake Geneva (~8mi.) or see a concert at Alpine Valley (~20 min). There’s a shuttle from the campground (outer sites near racetrack.). You pay for the shuttle through Lakeshore shuttle. This weekend had their annual Ribfest. Great food and music that you can walk to from your site (~2 min walk). Due to the fest, there was some late noise, but nothing obnoxious. Definitely recommend as a home base for area fun, music, shopping, and restaurants.

    Great family campground!

Just checked in yesterday and will be here 6 days with grandchildren. Park is clean, comfortable and was easy to work with when we requested an upgrade to our originally chosen site. While it is a bit noisy being right off I-90 having our AC on overnight minimizes the noise. the park has a ton of amenities for kids and seems very well managed for a lot of “kid fun!” Looking forward to the next few days and will update this review at the end of our stay. So far, so good!

There are very large group camping sites as well as a small number of family sites. The family sites are small - and there are only toilets available - but there is a main building down a steep hill to get to nicer facilities and showers.

    Wonderful experience

Best base camp for any trip to the Dells.

On-site laundry, pools, golf carts, boats, and that floating obstacle course... There are so many more ameneties available that we didn't have time to experience them all. All our needs were met, and our stay was plesant. The staff here was just so so very kind and accomodating... We definitely plan a return to Holiday Shores.
