Blackhawk Memorial Park

Boat-in access sets Blackhawk Memorial Park apart from typical county campgrounds in the Argyle area. Campers launch from one of two boat ramps to reach wooded sites along the water, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings during the camping season.

The park operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Sites cost $5 per weekday night and $10 for weekends, according to recent visitor reports. Pit toilets, a shelter, and playground cluster near the entrance, while campsites spread along the shoreline require some navigation to locate. "You won't see a lot of supervision here, but the park is well-maintained," notes xaq.

Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with multiple bird species active throughout the area. The no-pets policy helps maintain the natural atmosphere that draws visitors seeking an off-grid experience. Firewood availability varies at the park itself, though the Cenex station on Argyle's west end provides a reliable backup source.

Check the park's event calendar before arriving, as annual gatherings like the May Rendezvous can bring hundreds of additional visitors. For more camping choices in the region, explore camping near Blanchardville.

Many visitors appreciated the quiet, off-grid camping experience with basic but well-maintained facilities. The park attracts those seeking a rustic hideaway, though water quality concerns and limited amenities may not suit all campers.

Beautiful Waterfront Site

Quiet Thursday night stay along the water. We saw so much wildlife and really enjoyed the songs of the many species of birds in the area.

Excellent County Park

You won't see a lot of supervision here, but the park is well-maintained.  There's not a lot of official information available (like many county parks).

Pit toilets/shelter/playground near the entrance.

Two boat launches.

Variable availability for firewood; the Cenex on the west end of Argyle reliably sells it if there isn't any at the park.

Site availability is first-come, first served (no reservations).

Sites have picnic tables (in season) and fire pits.

Sites are generally well marked, but some can be difficult to find.

I believe that current campsite costs are $5/weekday night and $10/weekend night.

Some events occur here: an annual Rendezvous (on May 3-8 in 2022, there's a facebook page for more information), a blackpowder shoot on May 15, etc.  If you're planning on staying, it'd be a good idea to do a search first to see if a few hundred other people are going to be sharing the park with you.

Economical!

Stayed here with my son about ten years ago, and he loved it. Returned recently, and my wife said she wouldn't stay there. The lake water is like green paint and the river is now brackish, but moving. Got the impression of a beer drinking hideaway.

Nothing fancy
