Best Cabin Camping near Cheriton, VA

This campground is family and dog friendly and close to Williamsburg tourist destinations.  It has multiple sites for rvs, tents, camping cabins, yurts, and nicer more fully equipped cabins with bathrooms.  They even have a fantastic dog bath and holding kennel in case you have more than one dog.  They have a pool with a sprayground and a grassy area with ping pong and corn hole.  Plus, they always have activities for the kids.  Love this place and can't wait to go back.

They have the best customer service, high-end hotel style restrooms, premium log-cabins, first-class hookups, fast WIFI, cable, the best location, and the only shuttle services for a Williamsburg campground. Anvil Campground has been here since 1954 for a reason. For 64 years and three generations, they have provided great family memories for countless families. Theywill always be the right Williamsburg campground choice, because there is nothing that they will not do to make their guests happy.

Beautiful area with views of the York River. Tons of cabins and house rentals along with RV and tent camping sights. It is located on a military base so access is limited to those with base access. The base is more of an industrial area with lots of traffic but some of the cabins sit back on the water so noise is not an issue.

New to this site! Had a great time staying here, very peaceful and quiet, stayed in a cabin for one full week, plenty of exploring to do with the dogs. Toured the mansion and also Bacon’s Castle which is not far away, and road on the Ferry visiting Williamsburg. Definitely a great place to camp and get away for awhile!

Campsites Cabins Trails Beaches With people living around the broad Bay Area And people coming in through the front gates themselves There’s a very strong feeling of community within this place Enough people to multiply the fun But not beyond a point that feels crowded And all this is just within its limits ! Right outside this parks limits are the cities amenities and pleasures to be enjoyed via a very short commute (about 10 min or less) *Incase someone forgets the s’mores :) *

Kiptopeke is absolutely beautiful. Situated along the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore, campers can participate in tons of water fun. There is a boat launch (with tons of parking), a swimming beach, a huge (24-hour) lighted fishing pier, kayak, paddle board and bicycle rentals, a camp store stocked with a little bit of everything, designated campsites for RVs and tents, clean bathhouses with laundry facilities, and miles of beautifully-maintained (easy-to-walk) hiking trails. In addition to campsites, they have one yurt (with electric), four brand new cabins, and several six-bedroom lodges. The concrete ships are an interesting piece of history, and if you look closely along the road leading to the boat launch, you might even see the old motel marquis that used to welcome weary ferry travelers to one of the only motels along their journey.

Stayed in the yurt and also stayed in a cabin. Great location. You feel the wilderness bit are only one mile from grocery stores and restaurants.

We rented a cabin here for a couple of days. This place is quiet and beautiful. Has so much to see and do. There is mini golf, volley ball, fishing, and a playground for the kids.

We are enjoying our winterize trip now and have made reservations for 4 weeks next year already. April clam roast will kick off the 2019 season. Might be before that if I get to antsy with cabin fever.

Open meadow camping; some cabins and bunk houses available. Nice swimming beach and fishing pier. Many people bring their boats to put-in at the boat launch. Several easy hiking trails around. Recommend heading to Cape Charles (20 minutes north) for ice cream!

Stayed at the cabins on the property and it’s been well documented that they are haunted. There is a journal/guest log and there are many stories of pennies falling from the ceiling and the rocking chair rocking when no one is sitting in it. Beautiful property.

FLSP is a real Gem in the midst of a very busy Virginia Beach. The campsites range from tenting with no hookups to 20, 30, and 50 foot sites with water and electric. There are also about 20 cabins on the Trail side. The only sewer hookups are for the three Camp Host sites located throughout the Park. There are nice clean showers located around the campground. There are beaches with boardwalk access over preserved dunes. There are no lifeguards. Across the road from the campground are fabulous hiking trails, a bike trail, and another beach area on a tidal lake. The variety of activities within the Park, including Ranger led activities, along with easy access to the Virginia Beach boardwalk via the local bus system, biking, or personal vehicle, make this State Park the only place we stay in VaBeach. We love this Park so much we have volunteered as Camp Hosts for eleven years❤️

We stayed in Cabin 1 for one night to break up our travels to NC into two days. We visited Colonial Williamsburg before checking in. It is only minutes away with other activities for young kids near by including mini golf and a Ridley’s museum. The campground was very family oriented and quaint. I believe it’s been open since the 50’s and they have good old fashioned hospitality. I even got a courtesy check in call on our drive down to confirm and ask if we had any questions. I asked about late check in and they were very cheerful and helpful.

It had the cleanest bathrooms and showers I’ve ever come across in a campground.

They have a little arcade, pool and playground for kids. There were porch games like connect four and corn hole by the check in cabin to play also. I appreciated the flyers in our room listing local attractions and suggestions. They even had free donuts and treats for kids on certain days.

We loved our cabin. It was immaculately clean as if it were newly built. The door to the bunk room allowed us to tuck our toddler in early and keep her undisturbed. The A/C, TV and fridge made the stay very comfortable.

The sites are very close together but we felt like we had total privacy the whole time. There’s a train that goes by occasionally which might bother some people but we used to live by one so we liked to hear it roll by.

We plan to stay again on our way to the beach next year.

I wanted to get as close to the action as I could and this place offered a beach area that I thought would suffice, however it wasn't quite as exciting as I was hoping for so I did eventually buckle and take the shuttle to the more commercial beach, which was much better and much more of what I was expecting. This place is quiet in comparison but I wanted the beach feel of boardwalks and sun visors…lol

Campsites were ok. $21 for standard or $41 for water and electric in addition to a $5 per car entry fee I had to pay as a non Virginia resident. Things just continued to add up as I had to pay for the shuttle, and while it was reasonable you could tell this spot was in a commercial honey pot of money.

I was expecting from description my site to be on a sandy beach but they were not they were on dirt yes, but it was hard packed. I felt more forest than beach at the campsite and while it was nice and shaded it also lacked the beach appeal I was searching for.

They did have rentals of water crafts like canoes and other things at the marina, un-patroled beaches for swimming and a lot of hiking trails. With a mile and a half of beach, like I said it was nice.

TIPS:

• Take the WAVE bus, it does turn out to be less expensive than having to park at the beach itself with fare only about $4 per day. Parking down on the boardwalk area can be $20 per lot or $2 per hour at the meter with a 3 hour max.
• Opt for a space in one of the cabins if you are traveling with a family. They pretty much include everything you could need and leave the outdoor heat of summer outdoors, making for a much more comfortable stay during muggy months.

I have stayed at this campground countless times for years! They have bathrooms/shower houses that look like they belong in 5 star hotels! A huge game room, 4 or 5 swimming pools, with one pool having a stage for live bands while people are swimming at night. They have a trolley that takes you to the Virginia Beach oceanfront and back so that once you're set up for camping, you don't have to drive at all. And if you choose to drive, you get to park in a designated parking lot near the beach for no extra charge. They have 2 awesome camp stores, cabins and amazing tent sites! They continuously have events going on at the campground for all ages. The USO Patriotic Festival the first weekend of June every year is the ultimate time! Best camp ground in the southeast!

Awesome campground with amazing an amazing beach! You can rent kayaks or paddle boards. Has a bait shop/gift shop. Really good crabbing. Caught like 40 crabs in half an hour. Have to pay to use pier for fishing (5 for adults 3 for kids.) Really nice cabin and have stayed at tents as well. Awesome park and will definitely come back for years to come.

First landing State Park is a 2,888 acre park located on 1.8 miles of the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay. We camped here in early May in our 34 ft Class A Rv. If you are familiar with us, you will know we love campgrounds where we park our RV and we can spend the next 10-14 days hiking 🥾, biking 🚴‍♀️ and paddling 🛶.

🛶You can easily launch your kayak from the campground area but realize you will be trudging through sand for about 200 yards. When the bay was rough, it was a challenging paddle... and worth the views.

🎣I paid for an out of state fishing license for 5 days and it was pretty expensive. I already keep GA and FL yearly fishing licenses...so I may have to rethink my fishing addiction as we travel more outside those states. There is a boat 🚤ramp near the Narrows beach which is either free or costs $4 for people staying at the Park. (We didn’t use it and the wording was contradictory in my research) so check with park on that item if you tow a motorized boat.

🥾20 miles of Trails!! Lots of trails to hike and mountain/hybrid bike. We were surprised at the quality and the number of trails available. We were never bored. Here is a link to the hikes

🚴It was also fun to road bike the 10 miles from the state park to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk but we advise you take cautions on the first 2 miles outside the park. We were NOT there “in season” but during certain times of year there is a trolley 🚃 that goes to the boardwalk, gift shop and lots of park activities during the season.

🚍⛺️This campground delivered! The 184 Campsites with variations of 20/30/50amp electric and water (some sites may be seasonal March-December) sites are mostly hard sand/grass based and not all are level. Due to foilage/branches —>many of the larger sites near the waterfront are narrowed (Our camping neighbor had branch clippers he let us borrow) Also, note is that there is a $5 per pet per night additional fee at the campsite

🏡they have lots of cabins. pets are allowed for a $10 fee per pet & per night in the 20 cabins but not in the 4 available yurts. (I know that seems high but many parks in other states do not allow pets at all in their cabins) Here is a link to a pdf about the park
