The compact campground layout offers little privacy between sites, particularly noticeable during busy weekends when RV air conditioning units can create noise throughout the night. Michelle found it a "lovely setting, shady and quiet" during her visit, though experiences vary significantly based on occupancy levels. Several sites sit close enough to the main road that traffic sounds carry, but volume remains manageable given the area's low traffic patterns.
Water access varies across sites, with some lacking hookups entirely, though Gary D. notes it's "easy to fill tanks" at available spigots. The park's recreational offerings include multiple hiking trails leading back to the Northwest River, plus kayak and paddleboat rentals for exploring the blackwater. Located on the banks of the Northwest River in southeastern Chesapeake, VA, this 763-acre park is the perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational activities. Year-round boating, fishing, hiking, and outdoor programs are just the beginning. There is an 18-hole Disc-golf course, miniature-golf course, horseshoes, cornhole boards, volleyball nets and so much more. The park has 76 campsites and 2 rental cabins. Check in for Campsites is 2pm and Cabins 3pm. Campsites may each have 2 vehicles. Campers with reservations who plan to arrive after 5 pm need to notify the office. The park is considered a wetlands area, during periods of heavy rain minor flooding can occur and be a temporary nuisance. Park staff can advise on individual sites. Call ahead if there is a concern about weather conditions.
**GROUP CAMPING: For group camping, large groups will need to bring portable toilets. Please call the office for more information.
Refunds:
A. Refund requests for campers leaving early must either make the request by e-mail or in writing to the Parks Manager requesting a refund and stating the reason why.
B. Cancellation of rentals within two calendar days or less of reservation is not permitted (no refunds).
C. Rescheduling of rentals within two calendar days or less of reservation is not permitted (no refunds).
D. Rescheduled reservations are subject to availability (rescheduling fee may be charged).
E. The first night's deposit is non-refundable, regardless of the reason for the request.
F. Refunds are usually not granted for inclement weather. In cases of extreme inclement weather, any requests for partial credit must be submitted in writing to the Parks Manager within 48 hours after the event.**

There is no alcohol in City of Chesapeake Parks, including the campground. (Sec. 50-20 Intoxicating beverages or drugs.)
Please be advised there is construction at the entrance of the park. The park office is currently located in a trailer in parking lot 1. For check in with a car or smaller RV, please come to the office to check in. For larger rigs, please call 757-421-7151 for check in instructions on the day of arrival. Please call for more information.
Campsite rentals are limited to a 14 days within a 30 day period.
Dogs are allowed on campsites and Cabin 8 ONLY. No dogs in Cabin 10.
There is shared water in the campground. There is no guarantee of water at each site.
