Chesapeake Campground

Chesapeake Campground operates year-round on the outskirts of Chesapeake, Virginia, serving primarily as a long-term RV community with limited sites for transient campers. This former KOA property accommodates RVs up to 55 feet with full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections, plus amenities like WiFi, showers, and laundry facilities.

The campground caters mostly to monthly residents, with some sites featuring small decks built alongside RVs. Cliff M. notes the property "looks very clean" and mentions that "several sites have good access to satellite system." However, recent visitors describe maintenance challenges, with kelly W. reporting that "they don't do a great job of making sure the sites aren't full of junk" and noting drainage issues during storms.

Site conditions vary significantly across the property. While some reviewers found clean bathrooms and functional laundry facilities priced reasonably, others encountered large insects and outdated amenities that don't match website photos. Audriana V. praised the experience for families, noting "there were a lot of child friendly activities" and highlighting the camp store's ice cream selection.

The location provides access to campgrounds around Chesapeake for those exploring the Norfolk-Virginia Beach area. Campers planning extended stays may find this property suitable, though overnight visitors should expect a working RV park atmosphere rather than a recreational campground setting.

Former KOA property catering mainly to monthly residents with clean facilities and family activities. Many mentioned deteriorating conditions and drainage problems, though some found it adequate for overnight stays.

Cheap but run down

The website tells a much different story than the camp itself. Mostly long term here and they don’t do a great job of making sure the sites aren’t full of junk. Can tell it used to be pretty nice but seems very run down now. A storm hit right after I got here and now I’m sitting in about 8 inches of water! Good for a night if you just need a stop over, but can’t say I’d like to be here any longer than that.

Inconsistent to website

So this was my first campground sadly and the experience was not what I hoped for. The Cheseapeake campgrounds website shows outdated pictures and does not show what the campground looks like currently.

The rules on the website are not followed. They're are campers that have hard piped black/gray water some that folks are living in are severally ran down. The website shows you can make reservations but they often don't seem like they are keeping a good track on people comings and goings.

Customer service depends on who your talking with some treat you very well and the older lady at the counter has 0 customer service skills. She is short rude and not interested in helping you.

The place is quite and pet friendly the 2 washers and dryers work well and are at a good price. The people at the campground seem nice and friendly.

If you can't handle huge large bugs that eat you alive stay away.

The country living and prices are the only reason I have 2 stars

Cool place for families

There were a lot of child friendly activities to do here. It’s about 40 mins from the beach. We tent camped and had a blast. The showers were nice and the bathrooms were very clean. The camp store is great. It has ice cream, which my kids loved. Would definitely go again

Great inner city campground

This is a former KOA, I stayed here years ago when it was a KOA, and have spent considerable amount of time here fairly recently. They cater mostly to monthly campers, and aside from allowing some small decks to be built next to the RV's, it otherwise looks very clean. They do keep a few sites open for transient campers. If you need to stay for a duration in the Norfolk-Va Beach area (we're talking months), this is the place to be! Several sites have good access to satellite system.
